Pimel VS 8K-X. Now it’s getting interesting! Stress test it to the max buddy. Don’t let Swevivers charm distract you

So you have enough time to try the XTAL and maybe the Varjo.

Can someone ask Martin weather the X is likely to work with wireless in upscale mode and if not why not!

Just tried the Xtal and the Varjo. Xtal has wide fov but very noticable black borders. I could also kinda notice pixels and I wonder if the 8KX will be of similar sde (very minimal!)

The Varjo is a little bit like a wet dream. The sharp area is basically human resolution, it was absolutely amazing and made me smile really big. But no large fov, didn’t matter much though. But that’s just my first experience.

I’m glad more reviews confirm my impression.
Hopefully they will be able to deliver without too many blunders.

My time slot was at the end of the day, so I got to play with other toys during the day first.

The XTAL really is not as good compared to the horizontal and especially vertical fov of the Pimax headsets. The XTAL did however have a pretty much clear and distortion free wide view. But I could not ignore the black borders, probably because I own Pimax headsets and well, who wants to do a step backwards.

That said, I also tried the Varjo headset with the tiny sharp area that follows your eyes with a mirror. That delivers a sharpness of incredible fidelity. That is where VR will eventually end in resolution. That was scarily real. The implementation however was not perfect and you could see the borders of the sharp area. Also, small fov but that didn’t bother me because of the experience of clarity.

But then finally 5 pm came and it was my Pimax time.

The demo was a flight sim and I didn’t like the detail of the terrain I flew over. I felt all options were switched off so the experiences would be smooth. But that aside:

Buy. This. Headset.

This is it! This is the one. It delivers on all fronts. I was so amazed at the resolution, it is so pretty.
I found it hard to describe the difference with the Varjo. Because the Varjo was better but I could not point out the difference when I wore the 8KX, it’s that good. I liked it even better than the XTAL, but in terms of distortion, the XTAL was clearer overall and the Pimax has that, still large, sweet spot and some apparent things way in the corners. But that’s the same with the 5K+ and 8K. It’s very easy to ignore in my opinion.

The I tried the 8K+ to compare.

Super surprised to see the quality not being that different at all! Really, all enthusiasts should go for the X but if you for some reason opt for the 8K+ then you will still have one of the best experiences out there. The upscaling works like a charm. I am a big fan of both headsets.

Eye tracking was a prototype I was told but worked as expected, it tracks your eyes. 10/10 would buy.

There was no time to change game and I did not check any sertings but at these high ends you should just buy a monster rig.

So in conclusion; Pimel gives the new headsets a standing ovation.

@Pimel

Are the distorsions of Pimax 8K X only at edges ?

When you move your head objects inside the sweetspot (in the middle) going towards a side did these objects change their shape ?

You can tell of your pimax 5k+ and if you have seen improvements in vision headsets

Wait! They do that now? I thought every model still has the hires area in a fixed position…?

I think it did? There was another booth with a hand tracking demo for the military and they used a Varjo too. Smart people just did that demo because there was no line, the Varjo booth had more than 30 minutes wait all day. I believe that other booth did not track my eyes but the Varjo did. I’m not 100% certain though.

Neat, if that is the case!

…and kudos on finding the secret test area.

Thanks Sebastian for pushing Martin on the wireless - so at least we know that we don’t have to worry about wireless because there isn’t any (at least not in the near or medium future)! I am actually OK with this now I know - the problem was the thought of wireless just round the corner and not being able to use it because I had bought the wrong headset. Funny but Martin didn’t have to say anything - just the expression on his face said it all (he’d be a great guy to play poker against!!)
