VR Days Impressions: So I tried the X, the +, the XTAL, and Varjo

The distortions of the Vision headsets is much better than my 5K+. ( I found my 8K to have better distortions than the 5K+ too )
SweViver also told me they worked on a better distortion profile and if the lenses are the same then they really did improve the profile a lot. I reckon this improved profile would become available for older headsets too, right? Not sure.

Regarding sweet spot, it is much the same. There is a large sweet spot area and at the very edges things become a bit warped by the lenses. This is already known in my opinion and I did not notice any difference with the older headsets. So to answer your question, it’s what I was already used to with the 5K+ and 8K. In my demo I did not notice anything annoying.

Overall the improvements are very good or the same if not slightly better. Really, I put on the headset after having tried the XTAL and Varjo for the first time and I was scared the pimax would not live up to it. It did! It did like a champion. It’s not perfect but it’s close, very close. And for a consumer headset, I would almost say worth the price tag. But I’m poor so it’s hard to be super enthusiastic for these prices in general. But really, man, 4K native per frikking eye is insanely good. I already ordered mine before I went to the VR Days because I waited in 2017 before I tried the protoype and my backer number was kick down in the 4000 range. So I’m extra happy I gambled on the right horse here.

Oh, and the MAS. Excellent! There is a bit of counter weight in the back and that makes the hedaset balance on your head perfectly, it’s awesome and we can’t do without for sure. The audio driver was broken I was told so couldn’t tell you anything about sound quality but there was so much noise at the booth I doubt a good impression was even possible there. Maybe Gouda.

I can not imagine why if wouldn’t.

Seb mentioned something about panel size, but that is just a scale matter, and should have no influence. Of course: If it really is as you say, and there is a difference between the 8k and 5k+, with their presumably slightly different size panels, then I suppose it is not entirely out of the question Pimax are not working with normalised values, and are sharing a profile at a certain fixed scale between devices that have different scales in their construction, but if that were the case, you’d have to ask yourself what the heck they think they are doing?! :7

I think it’s possible because they are very much just tweaking things to look better rather than doing cold mathematical engineering. So having to do it all over again for a new panel size might be something they have only just now been doing with the X (I think the X has the same panel size as the 5K+)

Just had to share this too. Pimel with an 8KX. Absolutely amazing experience. Poor Sweviver was spent. Nobody gave him food all day.

These reviews sound really good.
The lack of strap has been hurting pimax for so long.
I’m glad they’ve finally created a really good one.
Comfort is so important.
I did think to myself I wouldn’t upgrade now as the deal could have been better & i miss oled colours & blacks more than anything now.
I might have another think about my decision after seeing these good reviews.

Oh no. I hope some good citizen grabbed him a snack & someone will get him a beer after

The choice really becomes choosing between super high resolution LCD panels or very low resolution OLED…

I’ve already got vive pro wireless (for my oled fix) but
I’ve spent so much this year on hmds.
Doubled my set vr budget already.
Sensible thing is wait & get some of my money’s worth from what I have.
Maybe something oled will be out mid 2020.
These reviews have got me thinking about upgrading though.
Maybe I’ll wait until new year after we see some user reviews.
I do think the 8kx should come with the on ear headphones as standard though. It has a high enough price tag already

Ha well, I have spent too much on headsets too but I’m selling all those excess hmds as soon as my new soulmate arrives

It’s so great to see all the positive reactions and Pimax succeed to mature its hmd’s in every way!

Yeah, I am really happy, even though some very good competition is near them, they manage to still impress. Sounds great and like sebastian said, I really hope they can deliver it to us!

Edit: (Sorry did some spliting and merging to get it all in one place)

Yes, these reviews really inspire, damn me.
Thank you, guys!

I really hope that the 8KX will reach us at least until the spring. In the meantime, we will enjoy the reviews.

Pimax, crush everyone :beer: :sunglasses::boom::boom:

Interesting, so Pimax has to fix the others headset“s distortions because lens are the same. Do you see or ask about panel utilization ?? Thanks :sunglasses:

Apparently they’ve created a new distortion profile because of the new panels size, and it works better, that’s what they’ve told me

I think that someone has mentioned this before in numbers - but dont have it together anymore - anybody does?
It did increase since the panels are smaller and so more is actually used but i dont want to stress what my mind is making up in number terms.

Just to clarify, has anyone used the 8KX without the cable/darkness issue?

Happy to hear the guys that tried it also like it!
I appreciate sharing your experience here on the forum.

I also suggest taking everything with a grain of salt though.
Remember the awesome lenses reports back in the v2, v3 days?
Well those changed as well, so ā€œeven getting better with future versionsā€¦ā€ may also be translated as ā€œeven getting more affordable as we use cheaper parts in the final versionā€

I’m also afraid as they use new pannels that they will neglect the ā€œoldā€ 8k panels support in terms of better distortion software adjustments with future pitool versions.

Of course, this is negative thoughts and I don’t wanna ruin the hype. I really hope that those turn out to be in my head only without reason,
and press thumbs for it being the real deal.
