Another thing i did not mention so far is that the cameras in the lower part of the module do already almost touch my face (lower eye-lids? Need to check). And this with the thick face foam which i installed again because of my friend trying it wearing glasses and because its very comfy. So i trade comfort with distortion.
I am curious about how it turns out if using the thin foam (which i am still waiting for). I can imagine there is a solution in wearing the headset higher or lower on the head (so that the camera is positioned where it does not touch the face or eyelid) and adjust the vertical offset in software.
What a great idea!
Edit: make it removeable with bare hands.
Thank you. In the case of plastic, the cutting line would have to be very thin so that it can be removed by hand. There is also a risk that it will accidentally break out.
A prepared cutting line that has to be run over a few times with scissors (or a cutter) would be stable enough when not in use and could still be removed easily.
If the cutting area is prepared finely enough, the cut element can later be used as a cover and fixed with an outer one-sided adhesive pad. Which could be included with the eye tracking modules.
See my linked post… ![]()
With 4 cutting lines and the appropriate adhesive pad to reattach the cover. In combination with a finer and somewhat longer cable, this may be a medium-term compromise.
seriously? 202020202020
eeek, i thought the fact that i had to have a cable sticking down to the usb port was bad, but having to mangle your shiny new hmd to fit eyetracking is extremly ghetto.
probably the same way Khaleesi forgot about the Iron Fleet
You want to adopt an American son? Lol
Isn’t the pitool that has the first eye tracking support going to be released today?
I would like to see someone have a go with that.
3 questions,
-
How did you know that you had to cut, was it after you got them and tried, was it in the manual of the eyetracking or was it a post o these forums?
-
Are you saying that they posted so.ewhere that as a backer they will ship you a better cowl?
-
Only backers get a replacememt ciwn and not upgraders?
I votta say, this ia the first im hearing of this and its making me feel like the 8kX is a little less of a complete luxury product.
Apparently, You missed this?

Unfortunately, it appears that the 8KX is still clearly an enthusiast headset. You will likely need to make some DIY adjustments, like installing the Deluxe speakers to upgrade your MAS.
I’m OK with having an enthusiast product, but it makes it hard to recommend to others.
the injection molds are very expensive and very complex to manufacture. it takes a long time. and your version requires 2 of these injection molds.
It’s better than mine… ![]()
True. A less expensive option would be to incorporate a “break away” tab. That way, if you install the eye-tracker, you could just pop off the tab and be left with a clean gap.
Why not just have an open space there.
The padding covers it anyway.
Would certainly help airflow and reduce fogging up, without adding light bleed.
