ah oke, english isn’t my native language also. I thought you meant it was only an suggested thing.
Well read my leatest comment to neal, it appears to be an answer to you
Dear 8k users, how many of you see the “wobble” effect that MRTV and a few others have talked about?
The 4K does have the wobble problem or “a” wobble problem. Im not talking about the 4K ghosting problem, this is different. If you shake your head from side to side you can clearly see the VR world try to move with the headset which is , from what i have read, the same problem with the 8K.
However I disagree with MRTV in that I dont believe it has anything to do with refresh rate 80HZ vs the 5K+ 90HZ. like you said all other headsets with 60HZ or better dont have the wobble.
I think it might be the 8K’s upscaler because the Pimax 4K also has an upscaler, just my thoughts anyhow.
Grass always greener… :7
Is PImax able to comment on this issue, it’s origin and whether a fix is possible? Would be really useful! @anon74848233 @Matthew.Xu
Can we please stop calling it “wobble effect”. It’s confusing, sounds like it’s about the distortion effect.
This is a latency / delay issue when we shake / rotate the head quickly.
This is the first time I hear that 4k have a “wobble” problem. I have at least 3 friends with 4k and none have reported that problem.
Yea, just like some are not seeing it in the 8K?? Im running version 2.0.7.54 right now but I always remember seeing the wobble so matter what version I using. Maybe it only plagues certain units
I think it’s more of a performance issue.
I’ll let Sean @Sean.Huang to answer this very professional question. Thanks.
Thank you Matthew I am willing to know before making my decision of which headset ill get
I have the pimax5K+ and definitely see this issue of the world moving slightly when I turn my head rather quickly. i.e The world I see around me is not “locked” in place like it is in real-life. This is really immersion breaking and kind of nauseating(and I normally never get nasuea).
When I had the rift few months ago there no such tracking issue as far as I was concerned.
I beleive the cause is due to flaky tracking with the basestation on pimax hmd because if I don’t use the 6-dof tracking basestation and just switch back to basic 3-dof (lighthouse tracking turned off), the issue is completely gone and the world always remains locked when I turn my head.
Even this recent reviewer experiences it: https://www.roadtovr.com/ces-2018-pimax-8k-hands-on-long-way-kinks-to-iron/2/
Also notice it is not easy getting the pimax to track the basestation at startup.
Really hope this can get resolved soon or I’m selling my lighthouses and going back to 3dof.
Can anyone with the 8K turn the lighthouse OFF and check if this “wobble” / latency effect is gone ?
So this happens in the 5k+ too, things are getting even more confusing by the minute.
UPDATE: I tested a little more tonight and just wanted to add the world moving issue is most noticeable when tilting your head up and down ever so slightly. Panning head up/down, left/right works fine.
I have the feeling that most 8k backers use it predominantly for seated experiences where u don’t move ur head that quickly. So how many use it with actual basestations and trackers? voodoo is the only that I know of.
based on what? most people don’t even notice it, its overrated.2 People are screaming very loud its a problem and 99,9% doesn’t notice. Some say it’s on the 5k also, what are we talking about?
Things are getting a life of it’s own and such asumptions are making it bigger based on nothing at all
Just a thought, just wanted to know if 99,9 may not notice it because they do not play that kind of games where it may be more apparent. I get that certain issues may be totally overrated.though. And without actually having tried any the pimaxes it just speculation which on ultimately suits me best. But I switched from 5k to 8k camp. I’m definitley spoiled with colors (vive/od+) and as I find myself in playing the smaller/less demanding games most fun (not using Skyrim/FO4 as reference) I got less worried about the more demanding 8k.
Wonderful news everyone!
All issues are resolved thanks to pimax support!
“Moving world” issue and finnicky tracking startup all working great now!
The problem was the tracking firmware in the headset. Pitool cannot update that specifically and only way if you have these issues is thru pimax supprt. Which I might add was the best support I ever had in my life. It was 1am in China and thay still helped me. They had to connect to my PC remotely and did the tracking firmware uodate like that.
I undertsand now why some people (like sweviver) don’t see the issue and others do / It depends if the the headset has the fixed firmware or not.
So if anybody has these tracking issues they told me to just contact doman.chen@pimaxvr.com support and he will arrange to connect to your headset remotely and do the update.
Good to hear you were not influenced by these things. I was also in the 5k+ camp and totally convinced with the info i had, till i tried them myself, and went back to the 8k. Unfortunatly reality is created most of the time by people who scream the loudest and everyone believes it is true for them. Really glad i could try the headsets myself, good you went with your gut feeling as i understand it.
Did you share your opinions anywhere? I would like to read if so. I keep feeling pressure to switch to 5k+ but something inside me is saying stick with the 8k.
