without new 8+/X series those HMDs already were obsolete & they try to be “tech edge thing”
also many ppl like me has problems with using HMDs (vibrancy, pixels pattern etc) so they try to cover more market of geeks & tech interested people + all other groups.
they need to move forward & they chosen more efficient way to survive, their lens are good but don’t cover many cases & difficult to setup, but they spend a ton of money on this kind of R&D, it’s much easier to update specs like screen, refresh rate, colours, OLED/LCD, improve housing etc rather then redo the hole thing from scratch.
Plus they do important R&D which will help them a lot in future, I also what some things they don’t work on & I even can’t guess will they (OLED high res panels with good colours). But it’s business in the end.
but in the end it’s up to the technology freaks because everyone else fails to set up the hardware (PP on /off, steamvr-settings, eye tracking…). In my opinion you should invest more in a proper documentation and user interface. And SWEVIVER’s work on the Pitool experience says a lot (I don’t want to question SWEVIVER’s abilities)
I wouldn’t say it sounds so complicated & you need to be a “geek” to setup pitool.
It’s like aliasing & graphic setting in games. Other problem is hardware & fit, if newbie get pimax & it suites him/her well there are lot of chances it will be a good experience, if it doesn’t suite but person tries to goole - there are still good chances they person can get decent experiencel
Another example - a person comes from OG Vive or CV1 & clarity despite of drab colours is the all what the person looked for - person will do his/her best to keep the unit & fine tune it as much as possible if there is interest.
I had couple of friends which just tried Pimax & preffered it over Index due to FOV, it varies.
Sure they might miss distortions & other points in standing/sim experiences against fast paces ones with a lot of movement, but Pimax has its own place in VR market now.
I understand the arguments and I am actually also a very technically interested VR user. I have already tinkered with the Oculus DK2 and set the pixel density at CV1. But not everybody enjoys this and sometimes I also want to sit down and play VR.
Also I don’t understand why Pimax doesn’t seem to learn anything from the mistakes. They constantly want to improve the communication but only add confusion. After a long time they bring an eye tracking to the market, which is a unique selling point, then it probably does not work for most of them. Even if it is a third party supplier, Pimax stands for it.
IMO ET is a good one, everybody just prepare themself to react on everything from Pimax that way & find every little detail, agree usb2.0 is a ugly point, but Im sure they will refine software & it will work much better, apart from the need to reduce FOV I don’t see any major flaws of it, it looks very promising.
On Pimax place I would stop say sorry, it’s just distracting to read email with so many sorry, just neutral business communication intent to fix consumer problem, it shouldn’t be personal or emotional, no need to feel sorry, the need is to focus on problem & solve them eventually.
Better than staying in never ending circle jerk of “pimax is a startup, they are working on it, quorra promised an update soon, don’t forget to tag sweviver for faster reply, I’ve had rift s and i had to rma it 4 times while my 5k+ is as good as new!”.
30Hz vs 120Hz. hmmm
I agree that way too often problems get generalized and taken out of proportion, but this specific issue seems serious enough.
I personally don’t want them to say sorry. I want them to give some specific information. Like confirm with 100% certainty that the X units been shipped have an USB3 port and can support fully the optimal performance of the modules. Or that plugging two modules to the other models will not limit their capabilities additionally. And also offer some specific solution for the owners of those models, that is the vast majority of their users, an option to use those modules at the capacity that was advertised. And not just say “that’s life”. There is no need to say sorry, there is need to be specific and provide a solution.
Not that amount of months when taking money??? The rub was and still is that Pimax said in 30 days you get your headset. I pre ordered the G2 and they didn’t take any money yet. If Pimax didn’t take money then who cares how long it is? right!
How large is HP? They can afford to just put it down in their ‘accounts receivable’, and to their shareholders, under the accrual method of accounting, it’s as good as money in the bank to them, without even taking your money.
Now that’s not really a preorder in any traditional sense.
At least HP did push the resolution of their VR headset though. Aside from Pimax and maybe them, there is basically no one else.
Also, Pimax has been willing to refund, so that preorder is still an asset to all parties at all times, not an expense.
I think you need to read the Op’s post. It is about why he cancelled his order. Not about user complaints. Now you are correct and the topic has strayed from that; including your post.
You try to refund my order from OCT of last year??? Take a hit in money?? I have a 5K+ already. when the 8kx gets here I’m kind of finished with Pimax! unless they change their ways they take Pre orders
Agreed it is exactly what is needed and he is doing an amazing Job seeing it through. If pimax had it on release, I doubt there would be many complaints.
