Let’s not forget folks needing to connect a dongle to fix tracking issues. I have seen discussions where it seems the internal dongles are running at usb 1.1 speeds? A fellow said he is going to dig up the og vive as the 5k+ and og 8k are using the same usb controller chip to see if og vive internal watchman dongles are running at usb 1.1.
PimaxUsa explanation on the 8kX’s usb 3 not performing well is the perfect example why the pimax headsets needed to be built with the usb 3 spec to begin with. The internal imus and Audio could be on the usb5537b chips usb 2 lanes; keeping high bandwidth things like modules (ET/HT the usb-c port) and steamvr tracking on usb 3 lanes. Hopefully on the 8kX they can at least fix that by firmware Updates. However it is quite possible the member whom suggested using the Oculus quest cable workaround now endorsed and marketed by pimax might end up being the only solution(later an all in cable likely might be sold with an extra USB 3 connector at pc end and a floating usb-c connector/hub at headset end).
I already know this but I hate when someone tells me my money or my view matter not!! I’ve already covered this with Pimax over and over, at this point its a dead horse. Pimax is in need of money to keep things moving and they will not change(can’t). They tried to bring to market to many things as if they had a unlimited amount of money. They pushed me and others into a Backer instead of a pre order!! without any discounts. Had they just made what they had money for and as money came in offer the next thing we would all be happy.
two USB lines in one cable could be problematic. (Interference) The solution would be a double line, as with the old reverb. Not so nice if you don’t really need it.
But optical cables have good options for higher bandwidths.
Well backer’s didn’t really get any real discount as it was trading ks items for the value paid. Pre orders who bought p4k 5k or 8k headsets received a direct discount without giving things up to receive $200 off. Not that the excessive delays in releasing the 8kX within 2 months of ordering was any better. Any Backer whom was not one if the original 400 is also a pre order customer and not a backer either with the 8kX. So all whom paid in 2019 are pre orders.
Any way you look at it this is a complete fail on launching the 5k 8k and 8kX headsets. Bad cables, undisclosed downgraded specs(5k/8k) and untested usb port in 8kX.
when that happens you get angry once and for all. if you have it in the closet because it is not good for this application, every time you think of it.
we need it installed on fixed machine parts for fast communication. sometimes something wobbles or vibrates, it’s hate.
underground and no excavator nearby. top internet and TV for all.
i like to learn new things from pimax. very creative people these engineers!
well, it’s not that stressful. Toslink has been established in audio for more than 20 years and I’ve never had defective cables in my time as Stage engineer.
If Pimax were to develop breakout boxes with standard Toslink, it would be easy to get cheap spare parts on the market.
with parallel lines like any other optical multi-cable, but not in the same jacket.
Personally, I could imagine a 1.5 m long flexible cable from the HMD, then the breakout box and the somewhat immobile fiber. So the mobility on the Head is preserved.
The fiber could then be fixed to the power cable with click mounts and quickly changed in an emergency.
unfortunately they have a bad habit of complicating very simple things unnecessarily, thereby draining consumers of time and money. if you can’t get a useful copy from somewhere, you come out with that …
maybe the prototype will be a great success thanks to high-quality materials. that they will present to everyone. then the thing has to go into mass production and they have to save somewhere. everyone knows the rest, of his own experience at one point or another.
a problem of rapid development without years of testing.
Something that many small companies struggle with without huge resources.
look at the reverb. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t need a new cable every two months.
But HP can afford to produce 50,000 instead of 5,000 for less money and then give it away.
exactly, or the other way. constant control and monitoring. in the worst case, 100% inspection of all parts. need time but the product last longer. this should be the price difference.
