@deletedpimaxrep1 Sorry I’m late to this question, but mine is about 75-77mm. I’m a bit concerned to learn that you guys will only be supporting up to 70mm. Is this true? I have my Vive set at its max 75mm, so going down to 70mm could be a problem for me and others with larger heads.
74.1 as measured by an optitrician. Am I hearing right that the max ipd is going to be 70? That’s unacceptable.
The max ipd should be at least 80. It would be nice if it was motorized. That way, when the eye tracking module is released, we can have auto ipd adjustment.
It’s probably too late to ask for a change, but I’m also around 72-73mm…
Unfortunately it seems that 95% of people have an IPD of under 70mm
This is probably why they have chosen 70mm as the max setting.
Even if they went to 99% the max would be 72.5
If you have a higher IPD than this then you are in the 1% of the population who have this.
And yes it would be too late to increase this as this means a larger unit, even if it is by just 1cm.
This could also affect the size of the lenses needed.
It sucks but this is what a lot of product designers do, try to cater to a large enough percentage who would buy the product but at the same time keeping costs low.
@bigo93 Make sense what you’re saying, and I found support for your 95% statistic, but it’s disappointing that Pimax is going to be a step down from the Vive in at least this respect. I may have to sell my unit if I can’t deal with the IPD decrease. : (
64mm, I use mirror and ruler to measure
@theodan Well it will be different for different people.
My IPD is 64 and I have an Oculus.
When it comes the setting it up the only time I see a difference with IPD setting is only during the setup.
The setup asked you to change IPD until you see a grid of lines properly, I’ve gone from one extreme to the other and even though the image was clearer at my set IPD, the other values just made it a little more blurry.
So it was OK for me, but for other it will be a case by case issue.
So hopefully the IPD only being a couple of mm off wont create too much of an issue.
remember the difference between 70 and 75 IPD is only 5mm.
My IPD is 69.5. (20 char)
Well it depends on how much is the optical system forgiving. I have binoculars which I have to set to exact distance to have perfect vision, otherwise I experience eye strain.
I won’t be able to use Pimax because my ipd is too high. That makes me sad and disappointed. Even the Vive allows an ipd above 74.
Maybe Pimax can consider a high ipd version?
What’s with this bias against tall/big headed people? We are people too
72.5 here really hope I will be able to use it
58 so i am on the lower end
I wonder if you can get around your IPD being higher with glasses. I’ve found that if I have my glasses on ,IPD doesn’t really matter since my glasses correct for it. The image stays clear no matter if I set it to 60 or 70 in my Vive. If I use contacts I ended up having to set mine to around 63.
Is 63 your measured IPD?
I’m assuming it 63. Since my glasses correct for it I never ended up asking my Optometrist.
Really happy to hear the range goes to 73!
According to @VoodooDE the IPD only goes up to 71, so there is still some confusion here.
