Haha you mean Josh, yes he didn’t last long at all. I think Jaap will go the same way.
As soon as the investors stop it’s game over for Pimax.
I’m not against investors but Pimax are burning money as quick as they raise it.
Pimaxes future look to be with the Crystal Super, a headset which is too big even though it’s 30% smaller than the OG Crystal.
The Dream Air, a headset launching in May even though no working prototype has been shown.
The 12k. A headset that’s become the biggest joke in VR. A headset so over specced and so delayed I’ll believe in Unicorns before I’ll believe in a real 12k showing up.
The fact Pimax released a small FOV headset before the 12k goes to show they lost confidence in themselves to deliver a workable wide FOV headset.
The fact Pimax release headsets every year goes to show they have no confidence in a single HMD but in doing so incur the costs a retooling rather than have a 3 year product cycle which delivers profit.
After the 8KX Pimax should have spent $30 million on optical development because that was where their weakness was.
Instead they invested in the Crystal and didn’t do that well because the Wifi6e was never a thing and the store was non existent.
If Pimax was a game it would not be chess it would be paintball because they just splatter gun anything that moves.
Well, at least Jaap doesn’t appear to be the type to insult & lie when being caught with having made bs claims like the „COO“ Kevin (funnily enough they had a Chinese lady who was the actual COO on both their road trips in the oast 3 years).
I thought Josh & Kevin now are sort of US distributors or partners of Pimax to set up US based support etc.?
In any case, Pimax have generally created an interesting new series with the Reality series, albeit the proved to be a bit against the new trend of small form factors which limits their chances of greater success and drove them to make up the Dream Air and claim its a product when it still was essentially in definition stage. But I believe there will be a niche for the Reality series for a couple of years if they provide a wider FoV than all of the microOLED competitors which we see emerge.
Looks a BSB with eye tracking, inside-out SLAM tracking and improved optics. Also seems they created their own driverboard this time, so hopefully that means no limitations with resolution and framerate this time around. (as in the 1920x1920 limitation at 90hz on the original BSB). I do wonder if they will jump up to the 4k per eye panels like Dream air, Meganex 8k etc. They might actually have a valid decision in staying with 2560x2560 panels if they can get the price to undercut other headsets significantly.
My only really desperate hope for BSB is adjustable IPD. I say this only because I know quite a few people that got the BSB and eventually had to refund it as after multiple back and forth they couldn’t get the headset tuned into their IPD etc correctly. The fixed IPD is appealing in someways, and I understand why they would do it, but my most recent friend to have gotten and returned the BSB because of it was in Jan of this year so I’m not confident that they have fixed it. Honestly add on the extra 5-10g and just have adjustable IPD.
Pretty sure I was wrong about the inside-out slam tracking btw lol. I forgot just how tiny it is and pretty sure I mistook the screw holes for tracking cameras…
The same resolution at a low price would be amazing tbh, I think the 4k stuff coming out like Dream Air, Meganex etc is amazing but it’s out of reach for the vast majority of folks so there’s still plenty of marketshare for the 2.5k-3k range per eye.
Yeah, it honestly is nuts (at least for hardware ha). Exciting time, even if my wallet can’t handle it!
Yeah, bigscreen really do a good job in that regard and they are company I feel comfortable and confidant with.
Overall I’m impressed, looks like a great headset. I would have hoped a wee bit cheaper considering the resolution but compare it to the Meganex 8K and it still comes in quite well with that headset costing about 50% more.
I imagine 107g with that halo strap will be incredibly comfortable. I use the Xreal air 1 for hours without issue and that’s 79g directly on my nose with tiny pads.
Nice video, seems they have a huge winner. Really too bad they’re not releasing a 4k version already!! I mean slam 4k panels in there and be done with it already
I don’t think I will ever downgrade from AVP resolution. So I’ll skip this one, though it seems extremely attractive due to the form factor and the lenses.
