VR Days starting shortly

I think everyone already knows that the business side of Pimax needs lots of work…all we want to hear about is what you thought about the 8KX :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes, also would like to know feelings about confort kit and audio strap and other accessories for 5k+…for those like me that are too poor to buy the 8KX

There is no SDE. The dark whale scene in the Blue looks good. The MAS + the comfort thingy are really comfortable and are really good in terms not only of comfort but also in getting the best image.
I expected to see distortions on the demo headset that is not properly tailored to my head. But there were none. The MAS + the thingy keep the screen at a good distance but also do not limit the FOV. This is the first really put-and-play Pimax headset - completely user friendly.

I will probably upgrade from my current 5k once/if I stomach the $100 hidden cost for proper audio after the stealth nerfing of the MAS.

What was the standard audio like on the MAS?

I ask this because in the pictures they look like they are way above the ears.

It has speakers way high above your ears. It is so strange I really believe they made it this way only to push people to pay more money for the headphones.

What about colors ? Are they popping out or are they muted ?

So what is it about the business side that you don’t like ? Just the handling of the “discount” plans A till Z?

Thanks for your thoughts!
I agree Pimax is starting to become a money grab company! A la HTC Pimax. They are getting dangerously close to policing them selves out of consumer market like Vive has!

Nah, they are just following what Oculus did, or if you want to be kind to them, trying to get a cheaper version of the Index audio which doesn’t put any pressure on your ears.

Having acquired the Sennheiser mod for the Quest I can tell you that while it manages to make the audio sound good, it really isn’t very comfortable and I can see why one would want to take that discomfort of OnEars away from users if they are supposed to spend hours in the experiences - add the social disconnect element to the equation and you got a couple of reasons to not just do this to save money or trick customers into spending more.

In the original campaign the stretchgoal said that the headstrap upgrades to the headstrap with earphones, suggesting they were going to release a headstrap entirely without audio. But then again the picture of the earphones upgrade of course showed OnEars at the time. I would say the quality of the invisible audio solution should be a deciding factor in determining whether this is to be taken as a serious attempt or not (though Oculus clearly are serious about theirs while it really stinks).

Oculus costs $400
8kx costs $1300

I strongly believe this is Pimax’ last show. After wide fov and higher pixel density come things they can’t keep up with. Like accomodation. Once oculus comes out with stuff like that then it’s game over for phone-screen glueing companies. Even filters to reduce sde is beyond the capability of Pimax.
The 8K was the next step after the 4K and they did good. I’m very happy once again as a customer, but after this? They’ll have to team up for sure.

Hey, Pimax can do more than just glue phone screens! Like … ehm … Ah. They managed to modify the open source OSVR drivers to wide screen compatibility.

Is the audio sufficient? Or is it as bad as it could be?

Oh don’t get me wrong. I’m a big fan and was a huge advocate of Pimax every since the 4K, exactly because of their software developing capabilities and super frequent updates! But I was talking hardware when I said they won’t be able to keep up down the road.

I disagree. Oculus only cares about low end mass VR. Valve is not interested in disrupting experiments. Now with a real put-and-play product Pimax needs to get out of the shadow and start talking to media and the rest of the industry. If Pimax handles this right they can reposition the Index to mid-range PCVR and the 8kX to high end.
But in any case I don’t see who is going to challenge them in the field of the wide FOV. And with the X feeling like a real end-consumer product and not a niche headset for enthusiasts I can see not less, but more shows ahead.

Yes. It was everybody’s understanding that the headstrap will have on-ear headphones. With this nerfing I’m simply going to use the old DAS for years to come instead of paying $100 for headphones…

Physical filters to reduce sde is the worst option for image clarity  I for one is very happy that Pimax is not doing this.

Please ask Sweviver about 2m extension cable or wireless on upscaled or reduced fov native mode 8kX since they won’t answer here. We also need to know the difference in sound quality and comfort between the MAS and deluxe MAS but I don’t even see that there in the live stream.
