The way forward

Good morning,
I’m Backer and one of the Spanish M1 testers. This is my first message in the public forum and will possibly be my last.
Each and every one of us from all the testers as well as the backers want the Pimax 5K-8K to be a great product and HMD of reference in the 2.0 VR generation. Each of us has a different perception based on our vision, need or preference (FOV, Resolution, performance…) possibly because each of us wants what best fits the type of games we play most.
There is a lot of discussion about technical issues and perhaps everyone is right. The Testers have shown Pimax their opinions, which are often the same and sometimes different.
I think that taking advantage of the rodashow and the presence of a large number of people would be a good idea to carry out a small survey. Such a survey would be public and could have the same format as the “Vote backer meetup locations” survey. Surveys have been conducted but now the Backer will have an objective opinion of the product.

Once the backer has completed his or her test time, he or she may fill out the following questionnaire.

  • BACKER NUMBER:
  • HORIZONTAL FOV: OK NO OK
  • VERTICAL FOV: OK NO OK
  • SDE: OK NO OK
  • RESOLUTION/DEFINICION OK NO OK
  • DISTORTION OK NO OK
  • GAMEPLAY: OK NO OK
  • PREFERS TO WAIT LONGER FOR BETTER EVOLUTION: YES NO
  • PERSONAL NOTE (Maximum five lines):

With this and once the roadshows are over, Pimax, taking into account the current state of the M2, should have a clear idea of the path to follow and its current final objective.
Let there be peace that we all want the same thing.

Greetings

A year after the kickstarter, Pimax can’t keep going back to the drawing board. At some point they have to release a product and leave improvements for future generations. If there’s anything that isn’t OK at this point, I have doubts that another 6 months or a year in development will fix it. Not without re-selecting hardware and redesigning from the ground up.

Very well said & very wise. I would hope that this is not your last post. This is definitely imho the way to go. :beers::sunglasses::+1::sparkles:

Great , this survey like I said on other topic and we can know how people think of the headset.

May we add some other, such as latency or anything which be important for the headset.

Have the testers seen the M2 yet?

No tester has seen the M2, the first to go to the event will see how good it is.

I hope in survey will be something between ok and no ok as not everything is black/white end even if is ok there is important thing to improve

I believe the goals and expectations should be realistic. Therefore, regarding your questionnaire: FOV, resolution and SDE are pretty much fixed by design and screens used, so it is unreasonable to demand changes in those departments at this point of time. And they are already on the limits of current and even next generations PC. I doubt that most demanding games will be able to run at max settings at constant 80 fps on resolution required. Even on 2080ti.

If there are distortions, they might be fixed, but the question is how bad it is, and if Pimax is able to fix it, or they had reached their limit in tinkering lenses.

I like…
but you should add this under DISTORSION to complete

COLOR OK NO OK
BLACK OK NO OK
TRACKING OK NO OK

Summary
GAMEPLAY OK NO OK
PREFERS TO WAIT LONGER FOR BETTER EVOLUTION YES NO
PERSONAL NOTE (Maximum five lines)

Maybe you could live with bad blacks or bad distorsion but at the end the last two questions summarize all.

I would add:

If you prefer to wait longer, why? (Note of máximun five lines)

I have forgotten this under TRACKING

SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION/DRIVERS OK NO OK

We do not know what Pimax will show on this
But the topic of M2 is the software configuration

This could be a short opinion about their efforts
Howewer if for bakers gameplay is ok and the games are

PROJECT CARS 2 FOR 8K
ELITE DANGEROUS FOR 8K
ARIZONA SUNSHINE FOR 5K

Well, i give to Pimax green light

Sounds like a good idea for a shared spreadsheet on google docs.

1st Tab - Survey form (that you print off and take with you or copy/paste into a email, fill it in and submit to somebody respected willing to fill out tab 2)

2nd Tab Locked, collated results from submissions. Maybe even a fancy pants pie chart.

This way the survey form can be updated right to the last minute. submissions are verified by email address (dismissing temp email addresses) and backer number.

Also having OK NO OK is odd. You need Acceptable / Not Acceptable / NA or Pass / Fail / NA

@Heliosurge said it better. imo it should be a numbered rating too. This way you get a better opinion on a statistic.

Well they could use a scale of 1 to 5. With being 1 being unacceptable 3 being ok & 5 being perfect. So to speak.

Well your forgetting it has been said at present software design is not considered complete & thus will continue to evolve to “get it right”.

But still a fair & good item to have on the survey for current state.

I disagree with you. The choice must be clear

OK
NOT OK

I think a numbered rating is a good indicator of something. It is what review sites use too. Some people will be “it’s OK” so they will not know what to put if the option is YES or NO because to them it is neither. it is maybe a 6/10

Yes of course …

NO it’s a mess.

At the end the baker summarize with gameplay and if he prefers to wait …

Well then you just have an option “Prefer to wait” if you want it in black and white.

But for something like distortion, that is not so black and white. lots of people could be like meh, its OK where others are a definite NO. So to read that statistic you would be better with a rating. Imagine an amazon review if it was just a YES but in reality it is a 3/5 (which is a YES) but it is not a solid YES.

I am not going to Berlin despite i was at berlin two times for holidays

My first judgement will be the games they are showing

In theory
if they are showing M2 to backers Pimax 8K has a good playing VR experience
ELSE …

Do you feel i am a computer programmer too ?
