I was at somnium Connect and the vr1 is the best headset I’ve ever tried . Forget any Pimax headset. This is simply on another level …truly mind-blowing experience :exploding_head::exploding_head::exploding_head:

Have you demoed the AVP as well?

As for forget pimax new headsets would be cool hardy. Simply wait for reviews.

Anything released first; often other companies will one up it as they have time to improve things prior to release.

I am interested in seeing how the XR android AVP clone will do after release. So far it looks good. As Does Walker’s project.

No I am only interested in pcvr

Brad is not super convinced: x.com

I know that a panel in VR is only a part of the equation. But still, it’s a big part. This has the same panel as the Crystal (light), so “simply on another level”, it just feels counter intuitive when 2 headsets share the exact same panel. Also RoadToVR seems to think that there should not be that much price difference between 2 headsets sharing the same panel: Somnium VR1 Hands-on: Enthusiast Level PC VR at a Difficult Price Point and they seem to imply that the Crystal, at even less than half of the price, is the better buy here.

That being said, I’ve never tried neither the crystal nor the VR1, so not sure what to think. Personally I totally believe Brad when he said “This HMD still has all the expected upsides (and downsides) of a Aspheric Lens HMD” and I don’t like Aspheric very much myself.

We’ll have to wait and see if they have pcvr tethered mode or not.

Who do you mean @Heliosurge ?

Brad said they improved ALOT

A lot of details yet are not know for “Play for Dream” headset. Save some specs and initial positive impressions. Though it is likely they will have possibly a tethered pcvr mode.

Hey did. But he also pointed out some downsides like the usual aspheric lens downsides (next to the upsides of course), he had trouble focusing on the visuals and he felt quite a bit of heat. He says he thinks it will do well enterprise but not in consumer. Not sure why but I’d GUESS that he also agrees that the Crystal is just the better value for money.

He also said that it will maybe do well in enterprise but not likely consumer.

@Djonko link to RdToVR is also very valid. I suspect that given Somnium spent a lot more in R&D with all the spec changes since was it 2017 or 2018 they first announced the VR-1?

The exuberant price point is likely related to wanting to recoup costs as they don’t have revenues like their own ap store platform. Like the other bigs.

You mean apple vision pro teatherd PC VR mode ? I don’t understand ?

Brad is simply not a fan of aspheric lenses but he liked the vr1 because they changed alot in the right direction

Yeah in the end it’s really a personal thing, aspheric has upsides and downsides. I remember people raving about the Vive Pro lens mode where they’d use aspheric lenses from the GearVR. It seemed most people actually thought it was a great improvement. But I tried it and hated it. Back then I didnt even realize it was the distortion, I remember just thinking ‘this looks weird’ LOL although I’ll agree the upside was that it looked substantially sharper. But the distortion just bothered me too much, it seems I’m pretty sensitive to that, more than most people. I preferred the original fresnel over the GearVR’s aspheric lenses and switched back to that. So yeah it’s definitely a personal thing.

I always have geometry distortion with those lenses… (warping at the sides)At least the pimax crystal and the pimax light have that problem… It takes me out off immersion… If you have a straight horizon you see the outer edge left and right is not straight…
