So pre-order customers are getting their 8K-X in August/September?

Agreed they need to do better. Even though the PD 1 and 2 it was the Pre Orders and after KS buyers whom got the better deal to pre purchase the 8kX.

They need to do better is a Pimax Slogan.

Thank you for straightening me out.

Well that is good news then. Guess I should have watched the video. Thought that was only for backers

Heliosurge, I suspect either I’m not quite grasping the meaning of what you’re saying or you’re not quite getting what I’m saying. Generally I agree with most of your posts, and I suspect you agree with most of mine. On this though, I don’t understand why you feel we have to accept something that isn’t right. Certainly we cannot change what has already passed. This is the very reason why what’s done from this point forward has to be done better. Every moment from this point forward is an opportunity to get it right. Another way to look at it is that the events of the past are no excuse to do less than right in the present. That the world has changed is no excuse to make misleading statements and then do nothing to correct that.

Simply because other companies cannot correct the situations created by this pandemic, is not justification for Pimax not to do all that it can to correct misleading statements made to early preorderers before the pandemic or to correct for a situation created by adding people to the que for a new plan.

I do see that Pimax is trying to make right old promises to backers. I truly feel that’s great, and I would expect nothing less. But making their promises right to some of us doesn’t mean they can’t also make their promises right for the rest of us. It seems that you’re dividing us by making this an us or them situation. We are in this together, and there’s no reason why Pimax can’t make this right for all of us.

I also understand that whatever Pimax may offer might not seem like fair compensation to me. Their ability to make fair compensation hasn’t been affected by this pandemic. If they can make fair compensation to some of us, why should I meekly accept less? And why are you pushing that I should?

Having said all that, Pimax has made no offer whatsoever of any kind of compensation for its misleading statement or for moving my position in the que. With Kevin’s assurance that the further delay of delivery of my 8KX due to the change in the que will be insignificant, I’m not too concerned about that. But the sour taste in my mouth from being told I would receive my order within a couple of months when they weren’t even ready to begin production, absolutely needs to be corrected.

My warmest wishes for you,
Captain Daedalus

I’ve been watching from the start. I opted out of kick starter due to some other space flight sim kick start( not going into that one here). Pimax has really been very bad with its kick starters and now continues with its pre order. Its that simple.! and they know it.!

Honestly instead of compensation Pimax should just increase warranty for everyone, Backers/Upgraders/Preorders. 1 year warranty on a product that has a MSRP of 1,300 is insane.

One of the main points of kickstarter is to get product before it is available to market. So original 8kX backers should get it first.

Backer upgrades and preorders could be sorted by date. If memory serves Pimax response in some old thread was that it would be complicated logistically. Since you were not here from the start (when first backer HMDs started to be delivered) the logistic problems resulted in months of delays and waiting in shipments. So maybe the result of such merge of queues would just mean that both groups would receive it later.

Anyway it is as it is, it is not going to change (and would be counteproductive at this stage leading to further delays for all groups). Pimax can ramp up production quite fast though (another experience from those early days). So while it matters whether you are number 500 or 1500, it does not matter that much if you are number 1500 or 5000 (speaking as original backer with number >6000). And getting later batch is actually good as early batches do sometimes have various problems.

I agree with all the points you make here. The risk the backers took deserves to be rewarded by receiving their equipment before all others. I would rather receive mine a little later than cause a delay for all from some logistics problem. And I’ve also commented elsewhere that I never really wanted to be first in line, because flaws and opportunities for improvements and better manufacturing techniques are inevitably found after the launch of most new products. Receiving your equipment early but not too early is actually a benefit.

If it’s true that I feel this way, you may be wondering then what’s my complaint. I was misled by Pimax. It was not honest or at least highly mistaken in its representation of when manufacturing was to start and when I would likely get my equipment. Pimax should make amends for its misrepresentation, and I’ve already suggested what I think would be a fair adjustment.

Thank you for trying to help me better understand this situation. The letters “SK” are by your moniker McUH. May I ask what country that stands for? I truly enjoy that the world has evolved such that we can share our thoughts so easily throughout it.

I would love, longer guarantee and a cup of haribo…

When can we expect shipping for DMAS upgrades? DMAS is behind the SMAS about 45 days and 8KX with SMAS started to be shipped about a week ago. About mid August?

5pm… … … … sure

It is Slovakia.

I can understand about being misled. I don’t think Pimax would lie on purpose, but they were over-optimistic in almost every single announcement since the last 3 years. So when I backer-upgraded last year I did not believe at all that I will see it Q1 2020. Though I expected they would make it Q2 this time. Well, it turned into Q3 which is still not that bad as far as Pimax delays go. But for someone uninformed from the outside just making preorder… Yes, in that situation I would not be happy at all. People also backed controllers those 3 years ago and those most likely won’t be available this year at all.

Thank you for answering my question. I thought perhaps “SK” meant South Korea. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Now I wonder what their abbreviation is.

Thank you also for responding to my other comment about being misled. I also tend to doubt that Pimax would intentionally lie, although I’m not certain of that. But for me, it doesn’t really matter whether their misrepresentation was intentional or only an over-estimation of what they could deliver. In the end, their words were the cause. That alone, whether intentional or not, requires some sort of adjustment.

One last unrelated comment: I’ve been communicating in this forum with several people from wide ranging places whose native languages are most certainly not English. I’m struck with how well you and they manage to use the English language, even using the style of native speakers which isn’t exactly proper.

KR or ROK.
My country is called South Korea, Republic of Korea, or Korea, Republic of, but not use SK as an abbreviation.

Hey thanks for letting me know. I’m glad we have somebody here representing South Korea. I’ve visited there a few times with my ship. I got a couple of really nice leather jackets in Pusan. So did you stop with the 5k+, or are you also waiting on the 8KX?

I already sold my 5K+ about a year ago and using an Oculus Quest and an 8K+(not delivered yet) as stopgap for the 8KX ordered 8 months ago. BTW I live in Incheon, another port city of Korea.

We have been telling this to Pimax for the last few years. But I kind of resigned by now.

Thanks. Writting might be Ok, but my pronunciation is pretty bad :-).

New poster here. I wanted to clarify something regarding the “pre-order” expectations and whether or not those who “pre-ordered” should’ve been charged by pimax at the time of order. I ordered my 8kX in January. I use the word “order” because that was the word used by Pimax to describe the transaction. It was the word on the product page button. It was the word used in the order confirmation email. I was expecting to place an order for something that was in-stock and ready to ship - that is what an “order” is. There was no indication on the website or during the transaction at that time that this was a “pre-order.” I am in ecommerce; I have been doing this a long time, the definition of an “order” is common knowledge. If you argue otherwise, you are ignorant of how the retail industry operates. At the time, I had not known of these forums, I had only seen CES videos and heard of previous versions of pimax headsets when I placed my order. I was impressed by the tech and was excited to learn that I could order one. It was reasonable, at the time, for me to expect that my headset would be shipping within a reasonable amount of time after I placed my “order.” I was suspicious though that there was no expected ship date on the order confirmation screen or email, but I took that as an oversight because many companies omit that kind of detail in their transactions. I came to realize though that this was not an “order” at all; that there was no stock - that I had placed a pre-order for an as-yet-to-be-manufactured product. I immediately took it for what it was; I am patient and I understand how manufacturing works. I am not upset and I am eagerly awaiting my 8kx sometime this year. However, I believe I was intentionally misled into believing that I was ordering a product that existed at the time in January. I am not upset about it, and I’m glad that pimax eventually updated the website to refer to transactions as “pre-orders”, I just wish for my sake and other “orderers prior to Pre-Orders” that they would’ve set expectations more clearly at the time I placed my “order.”

Unfortunately, Pimax has made numerous mistakes in communication, both externally and internally. I do believe that they are trying to improve this and that they want to ship a quality product, otherwise I would not have ordered an 8KX.
