Last year, Pimax announced that Linux support would be coming in 2026. Since the main thread is now closed, I was wondering if there are any updates? We are getting closer to Q3.

@PimaxQuorra Are there any specific details available regarding whether every Pimax device—like the Crystal Light—will be supported? Also, will the focus be on Arch or Debian-based distributions?
If we decide to add Linux support, it will definitely be made compatible with all models.
As for your second question, I’m afraid I don’t have an answer for it at the moment.

Progress is a bit slow at the moment. I think we’ll see more progress by Q4.

I am positively surprised, Linux is still in consideration.
Together with Steam still going Linux, there may be a solution or working software stack for me to switch from Win10 to Linux having my 8KX working. That would be gorgeous.

P2 models do work on Monado runtime 
I am running 5k xr here (although for 5k xr I had to tweak it, but that’s super rare HMD, for 8xk it should just work).
@PimaxQuorra perhaps releasing what’s needed for Monado to access the newer headsets (Crystal onwards) will progress Linux VR without taking too much time from Pimax devs?

@PimaxQuorra Have you received any feedback from your development team regarding Monado? I have put my Crystal Light in a box and am currently using my Valve Index on Linux.
There is a community branch for Monado that has been working on Linux support.
I haven’t tried it myself and it is a bit involved to install. At present they seem to have some support working in P2 headsets.

From following VR for Linux for a long time. Pimax will need to submit kernel patch info to add their headsets to be recognized as a non desktop display like HTC did long ago. Though I think there kernel patch code was submitted to be merged with Linux kernel.
The Community pimax branch has sited that at least the P2 hmds do not use EDID and are using a workaround. Not sure if this is the case with newer pimax hmds like Crystal and Dream Air. The reddit topic above regarding dream air may have detaiils in this.
Sboys3 us also in that topic and seemed quite interested in the IP’s results.
I suspect with the community branch of Monado that @mirage335 is likely involved as he was looking into getting Linux support implemented and was encouraging pimax in very early days.

I did speak with member from Linux VR adventures about Linux support, but there are a few things we need to address before we can make it happen. One of the main issues is related to the EDID.
