I’ve been using SteamVR utilities and comparing them to Pimax Play equivalents. I would like to make a request to bring Pimax’s ‘in VR’ utilities up to standard with the SteamVR equivalents
Pimax Desktop is considerably lower resolution than SteamVR Desktop, and no resizing fixes it - why is this and it can be improved to match? On my 8KX there is a big clarity difference between the two.
Can you add a curved screen on desktop mode to improve legibility?
Mouse cursor is very underdeveloped and hard to use. No consistent clear cursor across the entire desktop, unlike SteamVR Desktop. I have to use the controller pointer to be able to select anything easily, again unlike SteamVR Desktop. This is intrusive, please add a stable mouse cursor that works well across the whole desktop (taskbar + apps etc).
Pimax FPS tool - can you copy features from FPSVR and add frame timing graphs. These are invaluable to see why FPS is low, or why there is stutter etc.
A customisable shortcut key to toggle the FPS overlay or other windows on and off quickly would be nice
The UI’s ability to remember the current window configuration (active windows, size, position) on next launch (all FPSVR capabilities).
The ability to use the controller system button to directly toggle Desktop mode on / off. To compare with SteamVR, you only need to select the desktop icon to enable Desktop once after launch - after that the system button acts like a toggle. With Pimax Dashboard you have to reselect the desktop icon every time the UI is brought up.
Bringing up the Pimax UI (whether desktop mode or not), halves the active application frame rate. SteamVR UI does not do this. Can you please look into optimisations for the VR UI?
Is there any plan to work further on the feature? Does PiPlay 2.0 have any improvements for this? I don’t have access to it yet.
Thanks! This will help bring Pimax software capabilities up to the standard of alternatives such as SteamVR. Now that some applications such as Star Citizen support Pimax OpenXR where they previously did not, this disparity has become more noticeable.
Thank you for the suggestions. Some of them have already been passed along to our developers for evaluation.
I’ll also go through these suggestions with them during our weekly meeting. They’ll consider them and may add them to the development schedule, but I can’t guarantee they will be implemented in the next patch.
I’ve submitted those to the dev team for evaluation. I can’t promise a timeline for when they’ll be added—or if they’ll be added at all—but there’s a good chance.
If I had to choose two for top priority, as these are highly intrusive:
Low resolution - text and details are hard to read
Stable mouse cursor - very hard to navigate without this, have to keep swapping to Index controller which is very poor for scrolling, and laser pointer for selection which isn’t good for web / Discord navigation
Inpimax play create a way to save, and load several profiles of settings. What that means is if I have an ultrawide module and I have a bunch of settings, allow me to save that in a profile. Then if I also have the 50 PPD module, or the OLED module, each one of those could have their own profile. It would be easy to reload if I switched modules.
Even just experimenting with various settings on the same module would be made much easier if we were allowed to create, save, and reload a profile
I’ve not tried it as it needs OpenXr Toolkit that conflicts with Quadviews when set in Pimax Play, unless one uses the alternative Quadviews/Companion, which I have deactivated to use the built-in feature. However, it is an interesting concept if it works by allowing adjustment to FOV/Stereo effect to create more depth. If it is a plausible and produces a better 3D experience maybe Pimax might investigate and potentialy take up the idea for PP2.0+.
I should clarify: OpenXr Toolkit obviously works with MSFS2024 (as the Prima mod video demonstrates). The conflict I mentioned is when using DCS - I just get black screen/starfleld in the PCL HMD if I try to load DCS with OpenXr Toolkit enabled and the native Pimax Quadviews.
1-When pressing the dashboard I’d like it to come back to how I closed it. So if I was on the desktop page, with desktop #2 selected, I would like it to open like this. So when I am in my simrig I dont have to grab the motion controller to click desktop so I can change thing outside of the game.
2- Save/Restore the chosen Size for the desktop window in the dashboard.
3- Being able to display all my monitors at same time. I have 2 monitors , so 2 desktop. Would be nice to being able to have 2 desktop open… And/Or a shortcut to switch from desktop number. Because again, I want to grab my motion controller as less as possible when I am in my sim.
Bug - using pin function PimaxPlay would randomly crash after several hours of playing with: Shader GPU error. I’ll take a screenshot and create a ticket next time it occurs.
I would really like to see the possibility of increasing performance not only by reducing the horizontal view, but also by reducing the vertical view (CropFov from the unofficial OpenXR TK add-on). This increases performance very well without reducing the horizontal view.
