I was wondering if there was any updates on the 60G air link in its production and testing? It has been nearing a year since we last heard anything in official announcements and or shipping updates with an estimated timeline on the delivery of the $300 accessory for the original crystal. I was looking to see if the project has just been abandon and dropped by the dev team or what is going on. Especially now more than ever since the device is now marked as unavailable on the website for additional sales. I have been stoked with the idea of wireless pc vr be it the wifi wireless update or the 60g air link but i would like some more clarity or info on either at this point since the original crystal came out nearing 3 years here in May. The headset has felt abandon and fallen quite short of the original promises.
I can confirm to you that OG Crystal Wireless is 100% real – I’ve used it, I was in the original wireless beta and I think its coming out soon or in a few weeks…? But it worked really well with only a few little glitches in the initial beta.
As for the 60ghz thing I can only assume its been discontinued? I don’t know why the Crystal isn’t for sale anymore, its Pimax’s only wireless headset. I heard a few months ago the 60ghz was coming out in a month but then that was months ago now. So who knows, its Pimax. They should make more Crystals.
That said, I can tell you the regular wifi wireless is for real and will be out actually for real soon.
They have been saying the wifi update was going to be released for multiple multiple months now. I am still holding out hope on that. Though I wish the stand alone mode had made it further In development and allowed easier side loading of applications. As for the 60G its more that its been an actual year since making the original purchase. I could understand if it was a Kickstarter project, but a year for something thats suppose to be almost finished and ready for production is very disappointing
The only reason I believe in the wireless patch its because I’ve actually used it lol, so I know its real. But there are a bunch of what hopefully are niggling last minute delays. But I mean, I can literally use my OG Crystal wirelessly right now, all I need to do is downgrade my pimax play client and it works. So they did get it working, I’ve got their 1.4.0 beta firmware (outdated now), its just perhaps got a few edge case bugs hopefully fixed by now? But it has been many months.
I’m like 85% sure the 60ghz isn’t coming out. Although I’m hoping most of the tech used in OG crystal wireless will be shared with upgrades for their new Dream Air headsets, I think there was supposed to be some kind of wireless puck. I don’t care about the new headsets myself (too expensive, economy bad) I do want to see the tech developed.
I’d like to provide some clarification regarding this project.
First, it has not been abandoned. We previously conducted a beta test, and the feedback was mixed. Through that process, we identified several major issues that need to be addressed, whether related to hardware design or software compatibility.
I want to assure you that the project is still ongoing, and we are continuing to invest time and resources into it. However, I’m unable to confirm a specific timeframe at this stage.
As for the OG Crystal, the next update will be the WiFi Air Link (software solution), which is scheduled for release later this month.
Thanks for the updates info!
On this topic, I want to ask about why is both the 60G Airlink and Wifi Airlink incompatible with the Lighthouse Face plate? Was there some technical difficulties? Is there any plan to make them compatible?
I might be wrong but I heard the 60G airlink does work with the lighthouse faceplate, can’t remember if the wifi link does or not though
Would the 60g module also work for the pimax dream air?
I was also wondering that. I would really have rather had the lighthouse wireless tracking over just slam tracking
It won’t work with the Dream Air, as it requires the headset to operate in standalone mode and a chipset.
Pimax would get a lot less stick, if it didnt keep repeating its habit of over-promising and under-delivering. It seems like everytime someone has a good idea, you launch a product and start taking pre-orders before the tech is developed.
You have shown working prototypes ages ago and this gives people the impression that it is close. This is just one example from a long line of similar products.
If Pimax fully developed a product and then launched it as soon as it was ready, you would be receiving nothing but good feedback instead of constant negativity.
It would also be good if having sold a product on the back of a number of promises (I.e MR faceplate, wifi link) that you didnt effectively halt development as soon as the next new one comes along. Not everyone can afford to upgrade with every generation.
I definitely understand how you feel.
Besides working at Pimax, I’m also just a regular person who buys tech gadgets. It’s a mixed feeling when you’re excited about something but end up waiting for ages.
There will be an update on the 60G project coming up soon. We actually had a discussion about it earlier, and we’ll keep the community informed as things progress.
Don’t get me wrong. I like Pimax products. I own a 5k+ and a crystal OG and I have an 8k micro oled on the way. I guess im one of the lucky ones. But I remain dissapointed and frustrated that my crystal never reached its potential and didn’t get some of the features that were promised. Even when ordering the micro oled, and despite it being already ‘released’, it still shows as pre-order on the store. Also, it gives no idea of wait time, which is practically unheard of for any online store. I contacted support for an estimate and they said by end of Feb. It seems that support operates off of the same ‘over-promise and underdeliver principal, because they are now saying by end of March.
Apparently orders are being met in sequence. So from that you would imagine that you know exactly how many are in front of me. I assume Pimax also know how many they produce per week. Therefore it isn’t really degree level maths to work out a decent estimate.
The company is doing a lot of good things, but there still remains a lot of work to do with its communication.
