New pitool is up! Install new Nvidia drivers first!

That is my guess. You’d likely need 109 & use dfu to dowmgrade to fw 191. Deprecation looks like it has begun as advertised.

Though new Nvidia driver did work on 103.

@anon74848233 please add to early backers

By the sounds of it not without jumping through hoops. Looks like might need to downgrade firmware to get old pitool working.

Yeah, it would be useful to see your actual resolution shown in SteamVR.

Also, a giant star is very easy to render, so not the best benchmark.

is it possible to make a backup firmware and how? or anyone has download link for older firmware?

There is a fw 181 in pitool downloads. I think @IG88 has info on extracting FW.

if you dont want to use the unpacker, you can also just install the pitool version in question and copy the p2.dfu file from C:\Program Files\Pimax\Runtime\dfudriver\ and reinstall the version you had before
i have not try’d to downgrade from 193 but with the other versions downgrade worked so i’d expect it to work with 193 too

fimware P2.1.255.181 is in pitools v95

So today I used my 8k a bit more and I’m noticing a strange microstutter from time to time, even on Steam VR home, it’s a like a brief screen freeze but only for a milisecond or something, but still very noticiable and makes me a bit dizzy (and i have really good vr legs). I have a 1080ti and steam vr home shouldn’t tax my card at all, noticed it with every hz option and SS on, and that didn’t happen with previous pitool versions.

Can anyone here just go to Steam Home and stay there for like 5 minutes, and see if they notice a weird microstutter or screen freeze from time to time?

Also I think I was too optimistic with Vorpx, Bioshock Infinite intro played really well, but once you get on the lift things start looking really wrong with terrible aliasing and low performance, I don’t know if SS is not kicking properly or what not, but right now I can’t recommend it, but maybe less intensive games work better idk.

EDIT: I just tried Portal and it’s terrible, 0,5 PiTool render, SS on, 64 hz, low fov, still an unplayable mess on geo3d, so avoid Vorpx.

Just posting this so that @PimaxUSA @Sean.Huang @Pimax-Support notice and check that out.

I just tried with my 5K+… hung around Steam home for approximately 10 minutes looking around and such. I didn’t notice any of those issues. I’ll try now with the 8K and see if it’s the same… BTW… I have 1080ti as well and latest Pitools and firmware.

EDIT…

Just spent a few minutes in Steam Home with my 8K… staring at the bird and butterflies… I didn’t notice any stuttering at all. Everything looked normal.

I’ve seen a lot of micro stutters with the new update.

I noticed this after installing the new Pi Tool. I rebooted my system and everything seems good now.

what did you try? what exactly did not work or prevented you from downgrading?
imho it would be
install pitools 91, start dfu.exe select p2.dfu update firmware to 176 (thats what came with v91)

Hmm. My home setup is similar to yours and I did test the new drivers with that and an 8k in steam vr home messing around for maybe 10-15 minutes or so. Didn’t register any microstudders on the test run and just briefly ran a few games here and there though I haven’t tried VorpX stuff yet. Seems ok to me so there might be a setting somewhere that improves it for you.

Tried Fallout 4 yesterday with my 5K+ and this new PiTool + firmware. I also never adjusted my brightness setting or tried the Brainwarp / smart smooth functionality, since I skipped the beta release.

I have to say, in the 5K+, with motion smoothing, high brightness setting, and 2x resolution setting in PiTool [but 26% manual override for res in SteamVR settings, so as to push it down to ~4k width], Fallout 4 was the most enjoyable it’s ever been for me.

The Vive Pro has some more refined elements than the Pimax, but the combination of FOV, overall clarity, and software improvements has already proven the Pimax to be my go-to HMD. I sure hope they follow through on that deluxe headstrap soon, though: comfort is not this thing’s strong suit.

I did, however, try Large FOV, which is still weird: I still had a very fuzzy picture in the headset, and some ghosting or the like. I do have to say I prefer the large FOV, so I am hoping that is the next thing to get fixed.

This seems to be some stutter, though I haven’t tested much https://i.imgur.com/6I96Xua.png
I’m more bothered that my FOV and hz option is suddenly gone after my play session…

Click on Brainwarp. FoV & other options there now.

Which headset? Backer or pre order.

Yeah It looks really amazing on 5k+. Smart Smooth definitely doing some magic. I just need to get my IPD/eye depth dialed in better. Still seems off.

How to revert the firmware?

… I’ve been staying away from FO4VR for months waiting for the 5K+ to arrive… Your posts makes the wait even harder, in a good way…
