New pitool is up! Install new Nvidia drivers first!

Smartsmooth won’t increase your fps, just perceived smoothness. Not the same.

Yeah I know but with 45 fps now everything is smooth thanks to it

when iam Home from work i’ll do a screenshoot of everything. I was suprised to… believe that…
before the update i could play at SSSteam 100% PieSS 1 and Ingame SS 1.5 and Ingame HMD 1.2
in the 20-30fps range with Brainwarp broken AF.

But now HMD refresh rate @ 72 and Brainwarp and in post before mentioned setting butterlysmooth 72 FPS.
Software wise did Pimax their sh*t together.

Engage!!!

Still getting screen tearing on side-to-side head movement and jerky tracking with this version of pitools. Goes back to no tearing and smooth tracking if i downgrade back to the last non-beta version. fml i guess ?

The lab robot repair crashes. Not sure if it’s my system or new pitool. Anyone notice how the controllers float lag behind your movements in Steamvr home. Also notice there is a stutter in controller movement even when motion smoothing hasn’t kicked in

Does anyone know if the new improvements apply also to the old Pascal line of Nvidia? It looks like people who are acknowledging some improvements are mostly using the Turings.

@PimaxUSA could you shed some light on how the current PiTool version utilises Pascal and Turing cards differently (than before) and if there is any feature/performance difference between the GPU generations?

If this is true, that’s the best possible news. I’m just skeptical. I can’t see how you can run that insane resolution like that. Is this also in-station or in combat zones?

This is what you wrote before:

Yeah, I mean 90 perceipted fps (real only >45 fps) sorry, my bad

iam new to ED so no combat for me atm  but infront of a Giant Star (try to refuel without destroying my ship atm)

in stations i have 60ish FPS.

But maybe we are talking in two diffrent directions here
Pietool is set to 2
SteamSS is plane 100%
ingame Stock 1 HMD
ingame SS Stock 1
so basicly i just upped the Pietool rendertarget afaik?!

so pitool 2=400% SteamSS but Steam caps @ 4kx4k right? so i just play at max possible resolution by Steam

So let that thougt go to an end, Pitool uses its own best Resolution it can provide without messing with other mechanics?! imho

Can you see any smartsmoothing artifacts?

Played some more Fallout 4 with the new pi tool.
Pi tool set to 1.2, SteamVR SS 100%
Game looks great
smartsmoothing ON (all the time)
I’m doing a mission from USS Constitution to fort herd and back.
First launch and I saw 0 smartsmoothing artifacts (in fact I was like I guess fully closing down steamVR and pi tool fixed all the smartsmoothing artifacts)
but after about 30 min smartsmoothing artifacts start to appear.
By the time I get back to USS Constitution (about 1:30 min real time) there are a lot of smartsmoothing artifacts happening. White on the inside edges of the lenses only when I move head fast. Also now constant white & blue at the outside edges of lens (even when not moving my head)
No sure if there is some kind of resource bug in smartsmoothing or Fallout 4 has some kind of bug sucking up more resources as time goes on? This was not happening on my Vive though with their motion smoothing. Though valve’s motion smoothing has strange and consistent warping effects right away.
Maybe this is something for pimax engineers to look into @anon74848233

I’ve played it a few times on Pimax. Ensure that you restart SteamVR after enabling PP. I also had to lower PiTool SS to .5 to get it running.

Some vertical tearing still present but not really noticeable. But I am at normal FOV, need to try the large one… I read that with large FOV some users have blurry images… I will try in depth every aspects in the weekend. BTW I talked about 90 fps, my mistake, I have >45 fps so the perceipted FPS is 90 thanks to smartsmoothing active.

Not all AMD GPUs are constantly crashing, right? Is it just a specific gpu chip, graphics card model or just your very own setup?

@PimaxUSA @Sean.Huang @Pimax-Support
can you tell why there is no need to update the AMD GPU drivers like the Nvidia ones’, e.g.

  1. have the AMD drivers already been more stable in supporting the new features?
  2. have such driver update relevant features only been implemented for some Nvidia GPUs?

Can you please make an official general comment about AMD GPU driver support?

Well, it’s an RX 580, probably the most common AMD GPU in the last 2 years, so I assumed it happens on other chips as well (code like this is rarely GPU specific).
Once it’s running, it usually doesn’t crash anymore (unless you change a setting, like steamvr super sampling), but getting it to run usually takes about 5 or 10 PC crashes every time. It’s only with Pimax that I’m having these issues.

my ref RX480 bios modded 580 does not crash with Pimax beta 109 nor the official 95, completely stable… have to test the new one still

Just use 5k+ after try vive yesterday, feel see more distortion at the edge or center although using small fov, not sure because new pitool or I don’t use headset for a lot of days. Will test again and finding the correct position of the headset.

It’s likely due to making old pitools obsolete. You might need to revert the firmware.

Report the game issue with both Dev & pimax. It is possible that either or both put patches in place to fix issue.

Game dev most likely have proper release notes on it.
