I think it’s really quite a shame that the headset currently doesn’t support 4k @ 30 hz, whenever you put the monitor, in extended mode, in this resolution the display garbles up. Any idea when and if this will be fixed ? It’s quite a bummer to market this as a 4k headset when you can’t even really have 4k mode.
Agreed. Also, until their Extend Mode allows head tracking, it won’t be pleasant. It’s very strange not having head tracking in extend mode. I’d go so far as to say useless even with the increase of resolution. LiveViewRift is the only app I’ve ran across that’s actually tolerable. It works just fine in Extend Mode.
BTW I noticed that none of the resolutions work in 30 hz, all are garbled up the same way so I think the issue is that the headset doesn’t process 30 hz input correctly. Should be fixable with a firmware update
I dont understand, my headtracking works just fine on extended? I think its more related to the programs you are using while in extended mode. MaxVR works fine and some piplay extended mode games work fine…
So you’re saying headtracking DOES work in extended? Chrissakes, I was under the impression everything was facelocked in extended mode. The only reason I’d consider buying Pimax is if I can watch films, preferably with LVR, in the best possible ‘mode’ - and extended mode appears to be the best.
Headtracking does work indeed in extended mode. If you run for example “VR player” you need the DK2 tracker, which can be downloaded here: https://us.v-cdn.net/6024342/uploads/files/50085_12855e35363fdfd3023f84707502e47c.7z
Extract it to your tracker directory and then you can select DK2 as tracker and it works.
If some program doesn’t support tracking it’s probably using DK1.
Forget what sjefdeklerk writes, headtracking works just fine without anything installed, use included MaxVR or get a newer one preferably version 1.2.7 or 1.2.9, dont get the latest as im not sure if it will work as extended anymore (im using 1.2.7). You can move your head and its just fine and with pix.exe im using it with 1440p resolution.
btw. the videos they show on their piplay when opened are using MaxVR (tho resolution is reduced), so im manually opening the MaxVR for it to use best resolution as possible.
(videos do look just fine on Bigscreen too on pimax mode)
So I guess headtracking is a problem in extended mode with some games and not video players.
Just an observation with MaxVR - is it me or does LVR have a greater scale/depth? I’ve tried them both, and LVR to my mind has the more impressive scale or distance-to-screen when viewing in void environment. Typically, the dev abandoned the best VR video player long ago - and it’s why I’m hanging onto extended mode.
Well im not sure if its a problem, it is more how the games are nowdays developed they are made to work in direct mode not in extended mode and because steamVR is run though direct mode making games work in extended is impossible, same with the capped resolution in steamVR :(.
LOL. It seems you didn’t understand my post. I’m also saying headtracking works fine, as long as the application uses DK2. Dk1 doesn’t work at least not in VR player: http://vrplayer.codeplex.com/ However if you use the zip I’ve posted above, which contains a DK2 tracker for this app and extract it to the VRplayer tracker dir and select the DK2 tracker, then it works.
So if an app supports only DK1 tracking, it probably won’t work. If it supports DK2 tracking, it does. In other words, there’s no ‘limitiation’, the app just needs to support it.
Yeah sorry man i misunderstood.
I copy DK2 tracker, but in VR player i don’t see DK2 tracker, only OculusRift (standard Rift tracker)
Extract the whole directory to the tracker directory. So that in the tracker directory you see the VrPlayer.Trackers.OculusRiftDK2Tracker directory (together with all the other tracker directories.
After that I could select the DK2 tracker.
Of course i copy whole directory in “Trackers” folder. But not working.
Ahh, we are beta testers and must be helping to get this released, Pimax to Unveil 4K Per Eye, 200-degree Field of View VR Headset at CES 2017
Well, like any Oculus/Vive users. The term is “Early adopters”.
Still, I hope Pimax guys will offer some nice discounts or some renewal program for V1 users.
The 2K resolution is launched now, u can follow the article to support it.

Also, we are resolving the problem of native 4k resolution, please keep that in focus, thanks~
This does not work, I check my desktop resolution on the pimax, as soon as you switch to full screen, it cuts my display back to 1080p.
Do you have both PC monitor and Pimax set to 2K?
I have a 4K PC monitor, but I find it works better with PiMax if both are set to 2K.
It’s been 2 weeks. Any update?
