Native 4k resolution support

In extended mode is what I am talking about, Steamvr is just buggy for me. And my main display is 1980 x1200. The scaling that someone mentioned here does not help. It is not true 1440 when you do that. And its screws with my display.

So I use Extended mode, this is what happens:
I run Pimax : 1440 extended desktop enables and becomes the headset.
I try MaxVR or LiveView, the only players that I know to support head movement while screen stays still. Which I presume is the gyroscope. But when I switch to full screen, and I right click on my desktop to look at the resolution, I see that the once 1440 pimax screen has been turned to 1080p not even 1980 x 1200 like monitor. So why is this? Now when I switch while it is in full screen to 1440… The pimax goes black. I can hear the movie. but display is gone/ Like it cannot really handle the true 1440.

I can run a movie fine in the true resolution using some program that does not support head movement (gyroscope is it?) Like this potplayer someone mentioned? which is the same as this gopro player. When your head moves the screen moves. Who wants that? That is just 3d , not VR. Which is quite annoying when you are teased with high rez video with these players that do not support gyroscope and the only ones that do are lower rez? But I can tell the quality is so much better using these other players.

So the question, are any of you guys watching a movie with maxVR and getting true 1440? Can you force the pimax display to 1440 ‘after you have gone full screen’, and still get a picture?

Hi Silver,
I have both the pc screen and pimax set to 2K resolution (2650 x 1440) and for me it seems to work fine. Proper head tracking and all.

Have you tried playing one of the 360 Videos in Piplay?
Piplay uses MaxVR to play these and I find that it works better starting the video from Piplay rather than starting MaxVR directly.

For other 3D and 2D movies I use Simple VR video player with SteamVR.
I prefer this player to all the others and it can be controlled with a XBox controller so I don’t have to use the keyboard at all.
It’s such a pain having to lift the HMD to see the keyboard.

I’ve tried it all, maybe something is just not set up right. Also with liveview… there is one of the settings when you hit g to change view, one of those views stops the head tracking, the image looks better, but the screen moves with your head. I don’t get it.

SteamVR mode lacks the ability to enhance/modify image with injectors such as Reshade/SweetFX.

I figured a work around. Just cant maximize, prob the fact I am using and older gpu could be an issue/

It’s been 2.5 week since the last update, I wonder if Pimax can give us an update ?

Thanks

3 weeks without even a word from Pimax …

A month without any news or update on the 4k support. Is this ever going to happen ? Please be honest to your customers, thanks

There is Chines New Year and holiday season there, so this could be a reason.
Also they was told us before they are working on new board to connect display with PC using DP which will alow 4K at 60Hz.
Right now it is only 30Hz possible.
Other problem is real support from SteamVR without simulating Rift DK1 what Pimax doing right now in extended mode.

Agreed, supposedly the holiday season ends this weekend so hopefully Pimax will be able to comment on their progress soon.

That’s the Pimax 8k. But even on the Pimax 4k it’s possible to get 4k@60 hz, but compression is needed. That’s what they said they were working on.

Hoping Pimax can give us an update soon.

Is this ever going to happen ??

Come on PIMAX, you deliver a half baked solution and don’t give any update on the progress for 2 months ! We buyers believed in you and bought your product. We trusted you to keep developing this product into the ‘final’ product it should be. Aren’t we at least entitled to the truth and get some update ?

Totally agree… at least the next step … 3K resolution !!!

Yes you have right, 4k is still missing and no 3k  and 2.5?
