I’m glad that he is waiting. I would prefer to hear his opinion on the final version of the G2 with the final version of the 8KX. What he is seeing in these pre-production models is really of limited value because the final versions will be different to some degree. He indicated that HP will be reducing the brightness on the G2 in the final model so it would be good to know what affect that has because no one is going to be getting the version that he has right now anyway. Doing a TTL comparison right now would have to be outlined with caveats so it would really defeat the purpose. Product X is great and much better than Product Y…but neither of these products are in their final state. Sure there may not be any noticeable difference in the final version of either product but at the same time there MAY be. That makes the value of the comparison for the purposes of choosing a headset limited for now. It may turn out that he still has the same opinion in the end, but what if he doesn’t? Then there would be disappointed people who made a choice based on his early comparison.
PimaxUSA makes perfect sense as to why. He claims the new version is way different after Seb released his initial review of the G2.
Simply wait and we can see Ces model vs final release 8kX vs G2.
Why rush it?
did seb already have the right driver at the time? Not. that the Pimax ran with upscaler.
Seb did have the correct driver. The upscale mode prior was only to 90hz. He has been running native at 75hz.
With the removal of the upper usb-c port there could be improvements to visuals as suggested.
Some testers in his videos says, the image are blurred. This sounds for me - No maxRes Hack or Upscaled.
My 8k+ is with SS nearly like the old Reverb…
it is no possible for an X to look blurry in nativ mode with right settings.
He has already confirmed all “hacks” and settings have been used. As one of the m1 testers he more than knows how to setup the pimax headsets.
Then it must be defected or so…
No it really doesn’t have to be. But may have Pre production release flaws.
On the good when he gets the final release if it is as improved as mentioned. He can do a TTL compare that will verify this if so.
That is not true, the usb port was already removed in the CES model. The question is does Seb’s CES version have the top USB port ?
Check this video for the eye tracking, it is already plugged into the bottom USB port of the X, and it was also said that would NOT be the case when the eye tracking was released.

The real question here is why no comparison to the original Reverb, why go to the effort of comparing the G2 to the Oculus and Index when it will clearly (no pun intended) out perform them but not do the obvious comparison to the closets HMD from a spec’s perspective?
My feeling is, affiliate!
At that time it was already wired and it was said that “it was a temporary thing”.
Ok I still think it unusual not to do it, but I’ll let it go for now. I’ll probably get my 8KX before then and will compare to the Reverb G1 with MY OWN EYES. And again with the G2. No affiliate, no bullsh1t, no review samples from manufacturers. All paid for with my own cash.
Guys
You have missed that Sebastian did not make
THE REVIEW OF FINAL 8K +
I have not missed he did a TTL set of his pre production 8kX and can compare those to the Final release model when he receives it.
Looking forward to Seb‘s video how to use LHs with WMR. It’s about to stream in 2h.
Tried it myself but as I sometimes need to re-setup my LHs I did not like to go through the procedure every time.
With openvrspacecalibrator it isn’t hard, you just wave the controllers around together for a few seconds to recalibrate, and you only have to do that if something changes with the playspace.
As I mentioned, I have to recalibrate because I mess with my playspace a lot. I use my stands for more purposes sometimes and then the positioning of the lighthouses are different.
I have thought about mounting them fix on the wall but I postpone that idea because my studio needs a new paintjob first.
It‘s quite long ago and I remember that I had to fiddle a lot. (based on a video that sweviver did back then)
But as you describe it things have come a long way. Sounds promising and thx for the feedback!
After watching the video how to use knuckles with wmr I really wonder about less pricy alternatives, as
I do not own 2 vive trackers
I do not own 2 steam controllers
I do not intend to buy 2 pre-flashed dongles at 49$ each
I do not not want to use my old vive as hub (works though)
dongles are not at stock seperately
not sure if china cheapo spare dongles may turn out to be dissapointing due to weak range
any thoughts guys? (mrtv said he’ll check on alternatives but that may take time)
Just use the fast calibration and put the lighthouse controller on top of your wmr headset, not the wmr controller. Very fast and accurate. I recallibrate every day as well as I move my stands to vacuum.
Also you can use any lighthouse based controller, not just knuckles. And you can buy the dongles for 24$ a piece at https://tundra-labs.com/shop/vive-dongle ; seb is using an outdated guide.
I was just about to send that link, you beat me to it
