MRTV's HP Reverb G2 through the lens video

It wasn’t just about a fixed model, there were software improvements also made.

The software improvements though wouldn’t fix the agreeably defective first release he had. (EDiT Marcin’s HP G1)

Like using a 5k+ serial 202 with Black dots instead of a 203/204 model that had this flaw fixed.

Hi @RobCram, of course I could post this 8K X through the lens footage of the preproduction model, but again, @PimaxUSA tells me the picture quality of the final X has improved because of the new chipsets used. So who does it help if I upload this through the lens footage? Basically everyone would be unhappy. 8KX backers, because the picture quality cannot match that of a $599 headset and Pimax because according to them the picture quality has been improved for the final model.

Once I get a final 8K X I will definitely do that comparison.

@Heliosurge My model is not defective at all. It is just the CES built and not the final version that is being shipped to backers right now.

The argument goes both way if Sebastien decided it’s better not to show the comparison a this stage and explain why I see no problem. who wants to have a irrelevant comparison. Many people seems very happy with the first 8k-X units. If Pimax decide not to send the final unit to Sebastien then you upgrade your suspicion level

I never intended the pre production model to be considered defective. In fact your pre production 8kX TTL pics/video will be very useful to measure against the Final release once you receive it to show how much it may have improved.

I only said that Marcin has a first release Hp g1 that had known issues and as far I know never received a replacement to do proper comparison.

I fully agree it wouldn’t be a good time to really compare your pre production(ces) to the HP G2 as both have changes coming in the final release version that can affect this kind of comparison.

I edited the post to clarify I was talking about Marcin’s HP G1 that may have created the confusion

He can wait until he receives the final 8K-X to do a comparison video. But by that time the preproduction will be irrelevant anyway.

Which is exactly what Seb has said. He wants to do a proper compare with final versions to be a valid compare. :beers::sunglasses::vulcan_salute::sparkles:

I don’t care about the G2 anymore. HP clearly doesn’t give a damn about Canadians since they left it up to a crappy Canadian company named CDW and they haven’t opened pre-orders. Even countries like Turkey have started pre-orders. If I can’t pre-order I’m not buying this headset.

And I don’t care anymore about it. I don’t care if it has slightly better resolution than the 8KX. I don’t care if they sell like hot cakes.

For someone who doesn’t care, You sure use a lot of words to say it…

You can pre-order starting from now for $680 Canadian: https://www.cdw.com/product/hp-reverb-vr-vr3000-g2-headset-u.s/6121276

Well I did care, but if they don’t want to sell to Canadians, then all I want to say is F*ck HP. I’m moving on with my life.

How did you find this link? Was it posted just now? I haven’t seen any news about it yet.

Update: It’s not letting me add a Canadian shipping address. CDW.com is U.S only.

CDW.ca is the company that has still yet to open pre-orders.

Damn. I was just googling for CDW Reverb G2 and found the link.

No worries Sebastian. Thanks for trying.

HP like Valve may have limited distribution like Valve did has on the Index to ensure their production output is not overwhelmed by pre orders. As Pimax has demonstrated a controlled release helps to reduce excessive delays in folks receiving.

I know I wasn’t impressed with Valve excluding Canada as we neighbor the US.

It’s funny, I bought my Valve Index back in August last year through an eBay seller. And once it was available in Canada was around the time Alyx was announced and by then it would have been a 3+ month wait. So I’m glad I bought it through third party. But I doubt I want to go through that route again with the G2.

I’m sure someone would be willing to purchase locally for you and you could arrange shipping. I don’t know if the G2 is worth the hassle as you rate FOV so highly.

I’m not gonna go out of my way to get it this time. I think the StarVR One and 8KX will be enough for me. There’s no good in better resolution if the FOV is lower than the Index.
