Maybe you can fix the 170° marketing claim then.

Personally I also turn my head when looking at things.
But the thing with edge distortions for me is that they are so distracting even when looking straight ahead that my gaze gets “drawn to them”.
But it should also be noted that I’ve decreased the edge distortions for myself to the very last few degrees by painstakingly tweaking HMD mounting, so Large is now viable in a lot of content for me.

Not only does wide FOV help in racing games but also it is a clear advantage in any action game specifically like fps or skyrim when the pesky bandits sneak up on the sides of your in game character.

No, it was clear that both of them could not be right and one had to find out what was happening, if Sebastian’s visor had a problem with the FOV blocked by the subjection (Pimax problem) or Sebastian was doing the measurement wrong (Sebastian problem), but it was clear that one had to find out what was happening.

I’ve checked my 5k+ with comfort kit and it gives me around 160 horizontal.

Yeah luxury imports usually are not as over priced in the country of origin. Price rarely reflects in my experience with longevity. Every company has there lemon lines. Some more lemons than others.

Simple an error in translating it to english. It happens just because he speaks both languages well doesn’t mean he can make an error in reproducing the episode in English.

what was precisely his error?

Artisan FoV is not 140 wide and varies in different releases.

So it does have 160° after all but sebastian takes a jab at the usefullness of the last 20° lol.
A bit of trolling which has really triggered a lot of people.
Am i the only one who found this funny.
So nothing’s changed apart from in my opinion now it’s been drummed into us that large fov is 160°
Maybe he should make it clear on his video now the the trolling is done with

that comment about only 140 beeing usable i dont understand at all. whenever i use normal instead of large im a bit annoyed about the more “nothing” at the right and left. even ledstripes like ambilight on tvs would be way better to have on top of the large fov just to not have black there

Simple he mentioned in the german version of his review that it was subjective usuable fov. See posts above. The english version missed this detail.

No different than pimax stating see the RGB colors on the 5kXR. Folks might think the oled headset is RGB and we know it is not.

tell me where he states that? i am native german speaking and watched his german video…

in the whole video there is no mentioning of useful or not usable fov. nowhere. thats the point.

I guess you missed Noro’s post to you.

Then there is a lot to laugh about again in a certain German podcast. This forum is often good for pleasure there.

Wow - what a bunch of …
I used to play with three widescreen 27 inch monitors for racing sims. The peripery was distorted in a way you could not imagine if you think this is distorted. It never bothered me because it added to IMMERSION. You do not play with your eyeballs almost falling out of its socket. It is unnatural!

Peripheral sight adds a lot to the picture though. Hell even people with just 2% eyesight on one eye see a lot better than with that eye closed. Your approach is - questionable at best but in my opinion downright wrong.

You should go to people playing with tripple screen rigs and tell them that their effective FOV is the main monitor - the other two don’t coun’t because they are unusable because of distortion.

@mixedrealityTV are distortions in the Pimax 8KX as distracting as games that do object culling in the periphery?

I find I’m more immersed on StarVR in HL:Alyx after I got rid of the culling and rendering problems.
