MRTV Subjective FOV Comparison

Oh I totally get it, after hearing the criteria that he used for his determination it let me know that I could ignore his results.

LOL… I think he can do this himself.

The solution is easy… buy the StarVR One and you will never discuss about FOVs

@PimaxUSA @SweViver:
Pimax should demand an correction of his statements made in this (in the german one at least) video. Clearly he is damaging Pimax reputation in stating false fov numbers. Maybe even a case for legal action.

Sorry, but that excuse was brought forward as explanation in April 2019. Then we were told twice that stocks were almost there and latest in December 2019 Pimax said they had them in stock.

And in April this year -while backers were supplied at a rate of 2-3 per month- PimaxUSA told us non-chalantly that Pimax had shipped a whopping 436 or so in one week.

And today it appears that still not all have been delivered to the backers.

I hope you are not going to tell me that Valve dictates towards Pimax that they may not serve backers but only customers who haven‘t paid them in advance… ?? :smiling_imp:

Don’t worry to much @mr.uu thats why those two get paid the big bucks, if they’re not worried why should any of us be. I also have very much enjoyed your posts on this forum but just would suggest a little calm here. It will be addressed i think many good points have been made in this thread. Thank you.

I honestly think the best thing Pimax can do is ignore it and continue focusing on delivering their headset and software so that it can speak for itself. Any misinformation will be quickly defused after the headset is in more hands for more reviews from multiple sources. Even the impressions that I’ve read from users like you have been enough to let me know that the 8KX is a worthwhile headset and that the total dismissal of it in comparison to the G2 is questionable at best.

Even I think there’s something fishy about this one seb

I only know that Valve hasn’t had one since many weeks

well, still many people will be confused about his arguing. In the closing statement he even rants about the cosmos/rift not having the advertised 110 degrees DIAGONAL(!!!) fov, but only the measured HORIZONTAL. He had clearly too many very very good beers before testing

This one seems pretty objective and detailed:

TLDR - it has potato at ~100, small at ~120, normal at ~140 and large at ~160

He certainly has the sensationalist factor going on this.

I’m a big fan of Seb & MRTV, but I’m suprised by his update. I was expecting human error (we all make them). I’ve never heard anyone measure FOV by ‘usable’. The very minimum should be quote large FOV 160 with a clear caveat at the time that 10% either side is unusable for him personally so uses normal FOV 140 (as I do) :pensive:

However I find mr.uu’s '“legal action” equally silly

Maybe ask Sebastian what has happened. But now we know.
Easy question. Is not? What what?

I see some value in complementing these “upper bound” rendering target numbers with actual measurements. So from a conceptual point of view the endeavor of this video is imho a good idea…

I am pretty sure there’s cause for damages here.

At least, he should be the recipient of an injunction to print a true retraction

and a legal notice to not speak about Pimax products.

LOL… I love this kind of leisure lawyer

So much excitement here… why don‘t we call it a day and reconvene tomorrow.

@mr.uu: don‘t worry, there is not much damage done here, anybody who knows the Pimax headsets will have guessed that Seb made a mistake in his measuring, and those who don‘t know Pimax will avoid buying a Pimax anyhow if they place much value on Seb’s opinion, as he was not fond of the 8K+ nor the 8KX in recent times so they would have walked away with a rather not so positive impression in any case.

As to the reasoning he has given today… well, not sure he did himself a favor there. Sometimes its good to just admit that sh1t happened instead of flicking it towards the fan… especially where the deviation of exactly 20 degree happens to be the exact number the normal and large FoV differ between each other… but okay, he is perhaps not having a good day, happens to all of us.

@Cdaked: I guess this is due to us both not being native speakers, but I really don‘t get your explanation. What exactly are you insinuating Pimax have done to the FoV of the 8KX which Pimax doesn’t want us to know and Seb uncovered? I am completely lost at the moment.

That seems like a very important piece of information (to be honest I don’t know if You mentioned it as I fast-forwarded a few times)…

Personally I still don’t understand why people are bothered by distortion in the periphery?

I’m used to turning my head when I want to look at something in real life and I do the same in VR and maybe that’s why I don’t feel it’s a big loss to go for normal FOV instead of large.

What extended FOV gives me in for example a racing game is the possibility to know that someone is coming up next to me without turning my head as I can tell there’s something moving in the mirrors (and I can verify by turning my head).

I sometimes think people should spend more time actually playing and enjoying the experience than analyzing it (I know it’s Your job to analyze, so nothing personal)…

It’s not much different than many other things in life; If You’re always analyzing You’ll probably miss out on a lot of stuff…

EDIT: I use glasses IRL (but don’t need them in VR) so maybe that’s why I’m used to looking straight and turning my head?
