Luke Ross Mods Discussion

I have signed the petition.

To me this is no different then to have you make it possible for us to be able to use a specific PC MONITOR !

VR headsets are just 2 small monitors one for each eyes !

The fact that you make this possible is not any business of them !

Are they going after monitor manufacturers also ?

It sounds ridiculous cause it is ! But this is the exact same thing here !
It is ridiculous cause it’s none of their business !

You can still download the GTAV mod from GitHub. He just said he was going to stop supporting them going forward.

I tested last night and it still works with the most recent version of the game.

I made a backup just in case Rockstar tries to update.

Rockstar makes billions of $ off this game , I doubt the amount of sales lost from those of us who play VR mods is even close to a 100th of a percent of that.

But I get what you’re saying in principle.

Seems they might not care.

I worry about the larger implications of this. That we don’t “own” the products we purchase .

Weird that you must; “agree with the terms of this license agreement to use this software”

Weird that you must agree in order to use what you already purchased !

I and many others knew that when this all first appeared that it was an attack on the rights of ownership !

And the danger that this will grow into all aspects of ownership !

Silliness like ; Before you are allowed to “use” your new Toyota product (car) you must first agree to these terms !
Never modify Toyota products !
Never use any aftermarked parts !
Always use OEM parts !
That includes tires !
Etc…

There is a saying by a twisted powerful guy out there; “you will own nothing and be happy” !

Remember a prison with pink bars is still a prison !

I remember in the beginning when it was so much fun to own a PC game !

I remember having fun getting mods or simple ad-ons to GTA vice city and San-Andreas !

You could even play around with the physics setting and make any vehicle lighter or heavier by a few simple clic’s

Move MPC’s from one part of the map to another location etc…

You had tremendous freedom, and it was easy to do !

It did not take away anything from Rockstar, on the contrary !
You wanted Rockstar to keep growing and put out more and more new and improved games !!

But you see where we are now !
Rockstar sits on it’s laurels and bullies and dictates and does not make anything new anymore !
Heck it can’t even make a good definitive edition !
I wish Rockstar could go away and be replaced !
The ones that had something special in their games (free unscripted playing) they did not even try and keep that !
People who don’t know any better praise them while those who remember feel the big loss in freedom and cringe at all the restrictions in gameplay so that their scripted story plays out the way they want !
It’s like playing open worlds and being forced to go back playing corridor games !

Sorry for the rant.

Listen to this at the beginning and much more;

It’s only going to get worse if gaming moves into the cloud. Then we wont even have the pc’s to run the game on and the code would never execute on our computers.

Even Digital Foundry is talking about this … timestamped

This guy is actually french, i can tell.

:joy::laughing::person_cartwheeling:how ever it is, you are not i right here, compared to the other peoples opinions.

For me it is not problem,i am living by princibles mysef.I do not share your opinion, thou.

I do not like take 2 either…i have downloadet those mods at that time.
I also own VorpX and many other stuff, because i do love vr…
This was about copyright afaik.

Whether I’mm French, Uruguayan or Tibetan I don’t see the connection with this discussion !!!

As you say, you are expressing an opinion and your tastes. I’m stating facts about copyright laws (european or american, they’re basically the same), studio tolerances and their limits.
And sry to shatter your illusions but I’m right : you can’t do anything you want with a code you don’t own, studios decide what you can do and if you can make benefits with it (I don’t know many of them who allow this).

Except mods do not interfere with copyright laws any more than people creating injectors to add features to games that they never had.

Yes agreed your nationality is not relevant with you expressing your opinion.

By supporting the idea otherwise; it could open the door to say emulators for consoles break copyright. With Oculus platform technically like a console being a closed platform; that both Revive & Pimax for there different methods of allowing non Oculus Headsets play Oculus games. Revive using an Oculus to steamvr translation layer. Or pimax injecting native Oculus compatibility to play without SteamVR.

The code as has been said is custom code. A modder could simply create a launcher after creating several say vr mods, list the games that are currently compatible and add more later. Now you have something that looks more like a VorpX.

I do like french ppl in particular, in fact my grandma was french/german while my gradfather was american :joy:i do also live in a multicural famliy and i can tell, you are french, especially with this attitude.Believe just what you want, i do not share. Its all good.

You should avoid applying Stereotype labelling as it is not accurate.

i didnt do that with evil intentions, as for every culture, has its pros and cons.
Nevermind, if you please

It is never the less, a sad day for the vr community.

Yeah, didn’t believe that was your intent. Just now a days people are more likely to presume the worst.

Yes i also can confirm that, especially for many ppl that use the smartphone most of the time for castrated communication.
If my phones on the shelf i usually dive into painting or vr…play with children this stuff consumes so much time, but i think its for the better, not to be “with my stuff” all the time(wich i also do treasure and like, its just not all the time, you know.)
okay not i got far off topic and will take that one to my heart, or at least keep it in mind…

Another topic I know pretty well ^^
Basically, Emulators are legal, Bios are illegal. The creation/download and use of Roms/ISOS are legal ONLY if you own the original game and backup for your personal use. If you upload a Rom to share it, or download a rom from a game, that’s illegal even if you own the original game.
In reality, as I said, it’s a matter of tolerance. Exemple : Sega tolerates Rom distributors, Nintendo is more agressive (even with fan games).
And of course lucrative exploitation of Roms or Bios is totally illegal and not tolerated.

The keywords are tolerance limits from studios and commercial exploitation.

It’s the same thing with Revive. Remember Oculus decided to change their tolerance limits by blocking Revive hack, Oculus was in its right. They decided to tolerate Revive again for financial reasons (Revive adds new customers to Oculus). Btw, Revive is free !

Once again : if Ross published his “mods” for free he wouldn’t have any problems.

Revive being free matters very little. Mods can be charged for as they are not usable without the game. So like your Revive example game mods increase a game studio financials by encouraging ppl to buy a title they had no interest in before.

As I said folks like Luke could simply make a program that manages there VR injection and launches games much like Vorpx does and charge for there mod manager launcher.

As for Emulators one group folded and many of them went to work for Sony that had developed and released a playstation emulator for sale to play on Sega Dreamcast. A small company that could not afford to risk loosing to a corporation with very deep pockets.

Now Take Two could have been smart and simply seen if they could have come up with an agreement to make the mods official and have the mods turned into sellable dlc and split the profits.

A mod is nothing without the game to use it with.

The only reason Oculus allowed Revive to live is because it’s free. Otherwise they would close Revive and include their own system inspired by Revive. That’s all.

Or because Lucky was supporting & financing it.
