That’s the thing ! They potentially have a product that’s going to revolutionize VR as we know it. A product that’s going to make a big joke out of the Vive and Oculus, a product that every VR enthousiast is going to want to have.
However they need to step up their game and act like professionals and not some bunch of extreme amateurs. It’s so sad indeed to see how they’ve messed IFA up, this was really a good opportunity to gain media attention.
I mean also the whole fact that they were asking for a volunteer to help them out at IFA, haha, that’s sad in itself. Do you picture Facebook/Oculus asking on their forum for a volunteer to help them out ? They just PAY for somebody who has very good marketing skills and knows how to sell the product to people. Pimax really doesn’t seem to want to pay for things, I think that’s one of their main problems they need to overcome, they need to stop being such a cheapasses and hire professionals to help them out.
I’m sure they’ve spent quite a bit of money on IFA, tickets, hotels, marketing material, the stand itself, etc etc etc. Now they’ve spent all that money and got ZERO results for it. It’s money gone down the drain. If they had just spent a little more on some professional to help them out, everything might have actually worked.
VRNerds were there on day one (1.September) where the 8K Prototype was supposedly working and still they didnt review it. Also other media outlets for expl.: Heise CT which even have there own fulltime VR reporter didnt mentioned Pimax in there indepth VR IFA analysis which frankly I m quiete upset about it. WTF is this…free press? I dont think so…
Hmmm… Either the 8k version wasn’t working, OR it’s indeed not a world with free press … I’m betting though on the first, because if you’re the first magazine to review the Pimax 8k, then you’ll be assured of page hits.
doesnt matter…they very well “could” review the 5K OLED version which also features the wide 200° FoV and have 5-6 times the resolution of Oculus and still…nothing.
This is atrocious in regards of innovation and giving small companies the opportunity to shake up the industry.
Like I outlined earlier that would have been useless. The 8k LCD differs in so many aspects from 5k OLED that reviewing it would really make no sense. Who would be interested in an 5k OLED review when they’re going to sell 8k LCD ?
calm down, do not be mean.
Pimax can’t means/resources as facebook or htc.
And don’t forget that it is thanks to pimax if you can expect a mask without screen door effect 8K and fov 200 °.
All other mask it’s fov 95 and 110 °.
so I say thank you pimax to try to evolve VR.
Apart from all these failures the biggest problem I see is that they told dahilderson the kickatarter probably wont be shipping untill Q1 2018. I can almost guarantee you It will be more like the end of Q1 2018 because they still cannot even prove the thing works or has any of the features shown it their graphic renderings of the product
These guys have probably made a fortune alreay with the P4K scam and I bet the CEO is driving around comfortably in the latest Mercedes
@deletedpimaxrep1@PimaxVR
There is absolutly no way I am going to fund this Chinese company 900USD of my personal money to mess around with more tooling and prototypes
The best answer is to just wait patently untill one of the big player’s announces a headset using the new Samsung OLEDS. At least it will be guaranteed to work properly
I’m not being mean. We all want this product to be succesful. I’m just saying they really need to try harder and stop making those stupid mistakes.
You seem to think that I don’t like that ? Quite the contrary, this COULD be a huge breakthrough in VR. They just need to step up their game if they want it to become succesful.
Nah ‘scam’ is really misstated if you ask me. Pimax is clearly not as scam. They’re just very amateurish at times.
But that’s going to take a long time. It seems that Kopin panels are going to be the first OLED 4k panels to hit the market, this will be the end of 2018 !! And they have very low FoV. I think it’s going to be 2019 to see the Pimax competition really get up to speed. That’s why I’m really hoping Pimax succeeds, because I don’t want to wait till 2019.
The fact is at tgis rate it’s unlikely you’ll get your hands on the 8K for another 6 months and with new headsets being released on a weekly basis your better off to wait
Wait for what exactly ? Like said forget about 4k OLED, that’s away more than a year. And AFAIK there isn’t any company working on 4k LCD panel based VR with 200 FoV
I hope what you’re saying it right. But I do think Vive 2 or Oculus Rift 2 will probably be out sooner than you think and will incorporate eye tracking and foveate rendering which mean it can get HIGH RES with no problem.
Im on the same page Im just suggesting wait till this thing is proven and available to buy. At that time see what else is available. Wishfull thinking is not going to launch this thing any faster
Nah. Oculus said mid 2019. I doubt Vive is going to be faster, they’ve also said they’re not in a hurry and said similar things like Oculus. Besides, HTC is trying to sell their Vive/VR division, if they do they’ll probably restructure = lost time.
No, our hope for highres & wide FoV VR for the coming 2 years really is the Pimax 8k.
IFA wasn’t a deal breaker for me ,they just rushing things is all"only a week ago they said they built a new prototype they just need to slow it down perfect things that they do have and then demo a more finalized product by the way I think they was talking about the 5k version that’s going to ship Q1 2018
So true. If the biggest companies like Facebook and HTC/VALVE didn’t make new models since a while,I think it because they need a lot of money to develop new technology. That’s the point where PIMAX take big risks to develop new technologies without enough money but with good ideas and a lot of convictions that they can change the market.
If you look at oem brand like dell, hp, Asus ,acer and others, they r just waiting for Microsoft to do all the job for them and just produce hardware.
I dont care about marketing otherwise I’d never bought PIMAX 4k. I like to test and help outsiders to try something different. For exemple I use a Windows phone (for sure sometimes I regret but I assume that I m not a sheep to do like everyone and Waiting in front of the window to make me empty the pockets).
I don’t know if I will buy 8K because my pc is already not enough powerful for 4K.
Sorry for my bad English but I only want to say that without PIMAX i did never tried VR or when it will be cheaper.
Thank you PIMAX and thanks to the community.
It’s our fault not protecting the 8K demo safe and sound during the event. We have both 8K and 5K at the event. The 8k is not that stable after the wire of the prototype been dragged several times harshly in the event, so we use 5K, a lighter version that will also be available.
We will make sure to invite professional reviewers to make hands-on review next week.
We are not big enough to invest heavily in marketing. Most of our limited resources have been pull into R&D and manufacturing. That’s why your support is such a valuable asset for us at this stage.
We are motivated to drive VR further because we have a group of VR enthusiasts always raise insightful questions and ideas. We cannot make this far with out you, 8K is a work based on your feedback.
Thanks again for being part of shaping 8K experience!
