Thanks mate, very informative. I’m surprised they’re aiming for kickstarter in about 2 weeks when they haven’t even shown us a prototype with hardware IPD and SteamVR compatability. I want to love this product but this way I’m not going to buy it.

personally im disappointed so far…

its a real shame the 8k version was not available for review, @deletedpimaxrep1 @PIMAX-Support at IFA they offered only a 5K OLED version. its like trying to review an apple when you offer a pear. How can you expect to get honest reviews if you are not actually reviewing the product your selling?

…unless the 8k actually has 5k OLED??

so because they were different lens than what we were expecting we cant rely on the FOV, the image sharpness, the colours, the brightness, the SDE, the latency, or anything to do with what a HMD is really about? i also noticed in the youtube video the reviewer was not wearing headphones, are they not included? is there an embedded mic as well?

so many questions and the only reviews i have seen are either not actually reviewing the 8k just a hybrid of it or are not complete…

sigh.

Totally agreed. I think it’s going to be a really bad move if they’re going to start kickstarter in 2 weeks when nobody has even tested the product. Who’s going to pay $900 for an untested product ?

And what’s the reason of going to IFA with an 5k OLED anyway, what’s the logic behind that ? It seems one big cluster f*ck (excuse my french)

Sigh … Man this company, I want to love them but they make it so hard … And they’re STILL using that “never be so clear” slogan I saw in their IFA booth, haha. We told them several times it was horrible, incorrect, broken English but they don’t seem to bother.

Well, It is too early to be disappointed.
I have not seen the official announcement yet so I can wait.
The future is open.:wink:

I think you might be missing the point I’m trying to make, we are on day 4. More than half way through IFA 2017 and we have yet to see a good review… Well no half decent reviews of the 8k.

… And I mean no disrespect to those that have been to Ifa but from what we have seen the 8k pimax model they have at the show is not the consumer 8k or even close to it… It’s a OLED 5k?? I mean their stand says 8k and there CEO announces the 8K on a few reviews I have seen but people are not trying the 8k, they are trying a completely different lens!

I just don’t get it… Do they actually have a consumer dev version which is 8k or not at the show?

I’m starting to wonder if they actually have one there.

looking up and down, you could see screens or black?

@Enopho @crony @Sjef @DaHillersen @Davobkk Hi guys, we do have two prototypes in Berlin, an 8K and a 5K.

We will make sure to post 8K reviews before Kickstarter.

The differences between 8K and 5K version are 1. Resolution 2. Price.

@deletedpimaxrep1

Thanks for the update :slight_smile:

That is an excellent marketing strategy to offer two different models!!!

I will buy the 8K model! I don’t care how expensive it is :slight_smile:

We need to see the prototype with New head strap AND IPD adjustment

Will you demonstrate your FINAL prototype before kickstarter?

Thanks for the update !

Are you marketing the 5k model as an 8k. Like the pimax B1?

I appreciate you doing a review but we need to see independent reviews also. Please allow the public to use the ‘real’ 8k at the show so we can get some honest non bias reviews as well

Dahilderson explains in the description of his video the 8K model was there at the show but they were having problems with it

@okok95
Well yes the vertical FoV was pretty much the same as Oculus or Vive maybe a bit wider.

@Davobkk
Thanks for reading my Review, The Pimax CEO actually showed me the 8K unit but as I said in my Review they had to fix it somehow but he said on the first day of IFA the 8K unit was working and used for demonstration purposes.

Not convinced in the slightest. There are just too many unknowns even before it hits Kickstarter.

Pimax, your advertising needs much more effort.

Ship that 8K off to multiple parties so potential concerns can be addressed, Please say the controllers are wired for charging purposes and they can be used wirelessly…

I’m glad they are selling the headset by its self must mean it will work with vives light house and controllers!! Also means there going straight after vive users.

This I wonder too. Technically (in pixel count) 2x1440p is even less than 4k, so I hope you’re not going to market this as ‘8k’ ?

Also man I’m not even angry. But really disappointed. Not sure how Pimax could screw this up like this. I mean they go to Europe, bring only 1 8k HMD and it breaks down the first day. Then you guys demonstrate a 5k model and expect reviews ? I mean how is a professional reviewer going to review this thing ? Something like:

  • SDE … well it was clearly noticeable but we don’t know how this will change with 4k panels.
  • Colours … they looked nice but we don’t know how this will look in the final product since that’s going to be LCD instead of OLED.
  • Ghosting … well seemed nice but since this was OLED we don’t know how it will look in the final LCD product…
  • Brightness … Looked nice but we don’t know how this will look in the final LCD product.
  • And in general, we couldn’t see very clearly because there was no hardware IPD yet and the IPD was wrong for us, but there will be hardware IPD in the final product "

LOL. Of course no serious magazine is going to write a review like this, it would be totally ridiculous. I now understand why the guys from www.vrnerds.de, who DID go to the IFA, did not write anything about the Pimax 8k.

You guys messed up big time. Please learn from this and take TWO 8k hmd’s to your next event, in case the first breaks down. AND CHANGE THAT DAMN SLOGAN, LOL… “Never be so clear” means something like “do not be clear”. It’s the opposite of what you guys want to say. It makes you look like idiots. Not trying to be harsh but that’s just the way it is. You failed big time, you guys really need to work harder/better next time if you want to be succesful. @deletedpimaxrep1 @PimaxVR

It’s really too bad because a good demonstration at IFA would have been a wonderful kick-off to the whole kickstarter campaign. Now it would be a horrible idea to start kickstarter, because who’s going to buy it like this ?

I couldn’t agree more about everything you said. I do disagree on one thing. I am angry at this. I do not want Pimax to launch a kickstarter when nobody knows a damn thing about the product. It will fail if they do. I say this because I have seen better startup products that were well prepared crash, even with solid documentation of the promise of the technology.

I hear you. We all want this product to be a big success and get a huge community. That’s why it’s so disappointing to see Pimax make all these stupid mistakes.

@PimaxVR @deletedpimaxrep1

Instead of “never be so clear,” try a slogan like “lifelike clarity” or “Pimax 8k, take the goggles off and see reality.”

or “Yesterday’s reality was virtual. Pimax 8k, reality never felt so real.”

I like that one! But honestly ANY grammatically correct sentence would have been better than ‘never be so clear’, LOL. It seems they used some online translator and then just decided to print the output on a big banner without even checking if the phrase was correct. Makes them look extremely amateurish.

The saddest thing is, they could potentially have a product to rival the rift if they would just communicate better. It took weeks and weeks for someone to post a video showing side by side SDE comparisons, and that did a lot for showing the 4k’s quality.

When I 1st came on the forum, the HMD only supported 1080p, until I suggested a custom resolution utility and we forced 2k. Now they love the 2k mode.

I don’t even own a pimax 4k yet, because I want an HMD that I’m sure is quality.
