NORMAN CHAN!!! YES!!! He is awesome. Definitely have Norm review this if you can. See if they can get you on the show “projections” on their youtube channel. A deep dive into the workings of your headset would be so awesome. The VR community respects Tested’s opinion, so please, yes.

I think Norm might already speak some Chinese, so yeah. Also, even if nobody speaks Chinese, they can get a translator. Its tested.com

No one is asking for Pimax to break the bank but Pimax can not try to do the least and and not expect getting called out for it.

happy with that choice. norm is respected as a honest reviewer. tested as a group are also respected

any others on the cards ~ maybe from roadtovr crowd…

@deletedpimaxrep1 I would be happy to help you guys with advertising ideas. I dont have much experience, but I can help. Let me know what you guys need.

You don’t need huge marketing budgets. It’s my theory that the better the product the less marketing you need. Let me give you an example, my brother developed a ‘software synthesizer’ (a ‘VST’) which is used to make electronic music. His particular VST became extremely successful, if you turn on the radio and hear electronic music, there’s more than 50% chance the producer used his product. He never spent even a dime on marketing ! I remember when nobody even knew about his product, we talked on how to get it out the public. I suggested to just start googling other VST’s. We quickly found out which were the most influential VST magazines/reviewers/websites out there and mailed them versions of the software to review. Then the ball started rolling itself, those magazines started raving how great his software was, most gave 10/10 ratings and quickly more and more people started using it and now almost every DJ/producer out there uses his software. Again, he didn’t even spent a dime on marketing.

So in other words: if a product is really good, it will most likely just sell itself. You just need to send it out the most influential reviewers and if they think it’s a great product, they’ll write a great review and that’s how you can get famous without even spending a dime on marketing.

So, I suggest to actually do the same. Find out which websites/magazines are the most influential. A good way to start is to see which websites are quoting articles from which websites. If you take for example vrnerds.de, they usually quote from sources like roadtovr.com or vrfocus.com, so those are the guys you will want to have to review your product.

Also it might be an idea to just have some people here try it, I’m sure they’ll have good feedback for you about what they like and what they don’t like. Maybe talk to a few users, you could maybe make a deal where somebody first pays you the $900, then gets a prototype to play around with for a week sends it back and then receives the final product when it’s ready, something like that could work I guess. Again, I think it’s all about getting to a really good product because if you get to that, you will get great professional reviews and then it will most likely sell itself with minimal marketing effort.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Oh and BTW, while IFA didn’t yield any professional reviews, the 3 consumers who did a quick review all seemed very happy and impressed, all said how light the headset actually was and how great the image was. Together with the specs you’ve put out, I’m getting the idea that the Pimax 8k really might be that great product that everybody is waiting for and that will sell itself.

Hey guys, I was unable to post anything due to stupid forum spam protection for new accounts.
I will try to address some of your concerns.
The CEO did not exactly say Q1 2018, he said “end of this year or beginning of 2018”.
They are trying o sell both versions (LCD, OLED) but he wasnt sure to get the proper volume order deals of his supplier but at least the 8K LCD will be availble for kickstarter.
As I said in my review overall I m very satisfied of how good the image looked and how comfortbly it rests on my head. I m really surprised that the big companies like Oculus, HTC, Sony are not going for the 2 smartphone display sized approach. Palmer Luckey once addressed this suggestion in saying the lenses(fresnel) would distort the image to much. As I said in my review the image looked clear…no god ray artifacts…no fuzzy edges etc. You really wonder how a small company like Pimax solved this issue in that small amount of time but a billion dollar company did not.
Even when you say that the headset looks kinda bulky and not as sleak as Oculus one…look at the Vive it looks awful also very big and design wise I would nevertheless prefer Pimax over Vive.

So yeah we only have a small window of time in making this thing a success, I would suggest that one week before kickstarter everyone here on this forum should spread the word on many other forums and contact twitch guys/youtubers and different media outlets. Pimax supposedly doesnt have PR resources and I believe in there product so I for one will help them out. Just alone for the fact that it will take minimum another 1,5 - 2 years to get something similiar from the allready established companies which for one strange reason going more for sleak design then actuall performance.

If you manage to fix the 8K prototype till tomorrow I would even attend IFA a 2nd time just to try it out.

4 cables is pretty steep but I don’t know how they will be able to transfer two inputs simultaneously without some serious damage to latency. Seems like a real logistical challenge. As long as it’s a wireless “option” who cares.

Please get some video through the lenses!

Set your phone resolution to 4k Hd

and landscape mode Thanks!

last time I was not allowed to shoot through lenses so…
