Gaming wheel for vr

Hi all I’m getting ready for the 5k+ All I’m missing is a wheel . I’ve had the German Porsche wheel b4 it’s good powerful but not user friendly. I won’t out the box plug and play . What would you say is the best wheel out there for the money . I will be playing project cars . Then maybe iracer. When I had the vive and rift I was unable to get in to racing it just did not feel natural . I would just raver jump I’m my 3.2 and go crazy

It all depends on how much you want to go for serious racing and realistic car feedbacks, or just need a wheel for casual gaming with the common racing games, there is a wide variety of choices to choose from, but the best wheels are somewhat expensive.

Leaving out the high cost pro brands like Fanatec, Ricmotech and others, you could probably look at Thrustmaster, all their force feedback wheels work great and are totally plug and play and widely supported, the T300 is probably the best choice, a great wheel with many buttons and a choice of different pedal sets, if you want to go for the cheap then the T150 is a good alternative but the forces are less strong that its higher model counterpart; Logitech also does the G29/G290 but I think that the forces are nothing spectacular and the road effects are way less satisfactory than the Thrustmaster models, more like a console casual racing wheel and not worth the price in my opinion…

Of course there are also more serious alternatives, some brands are recently offering the new generation of direct drive motor wheels, with VERY strong forces and accurate feedback reproduction of the effects but the price is out of the reach of most casual gamers, around a thousand dollars or more, there is a indiegogo campaign recently of a very interestingly priced direct drive wheel and pedals but it remain to be seen how the software and compatibility will be in the end, it’s named FeelVR and is expected to launch in February 2019 (see their Indiegogo page).

If you’re going to just play Project Cars, it doesn’t count so much in the end if you will use a strong force feedback wheel or not, but if you plan to go for more advanced titles like iRacing, Assetto Corsa (and soon Assetto Corsa Competizione), rFactor or RaceRoom…then it will be a world of difference if you have a good wheel with powerful force feedback and accurate response.

I have a Logitech Driving Force Gt and force feedback can be tiring, too much for my kids, fortunately can be lowered.
Cheap I got another for them a few days ago.

I suppose you’re talking about Fanatec Clubsport with BMW GT2 wheel ? Excellent choice…price is suspiciously low, seller must be crazy or incredibly wealthy to sell for such price :open_mouth:

Oh you meant the older (out of production) Fanatec Porsche wheel…I see, still a decent wheel.

I have Thrustmaster T500 RS. It’s good wheel with quite strong FB for the money but all Thrustmasters 150/300/500 whells base mounting adapters have one big issue the steering wheel gets loose( after 1 year or so) to the base. It’s no easy to permament fixing that issue , one way is here : Is your ThrustMaster T500rs Wheel Loose? FIX IT - YouTube.

So my next wheel will be Fanatec , going for Podium DD1 base ( delivery starts since april 2019) + BMW GT2 Steering Wheel. or Formula One. Right now I have Clubsports pedals v3 inverted with load cell from them and this is night and day comparing to thrusmasters pedals.

I’m a backer of the FeelVR wheel and pedals. That’ll hopefully arrive some time next year along with the 5K+

That looks nice with direct drive but £500 is out of my budget for now .

Well guys I just went through all the trouble of hooking up my PC to the 4K projector in my lounge only to find the Thrustmaster TS-XW racer doesn’t even work with dirt rally. Best advice stay clear of Thrustmaster crap. The button layout is pointless. Even on Xbox half the the buttons do nothing. Either go for Logitech which is widely supported or go Fanatec

Well, to be honest Dirt Rally is a casual racing game, not even much new, yeah…graphics are nice but for those who have gone into more serious racers it feels like an arcade game, a high end wheel like the TS-XW is not even justified for it

If you look at the best racing titles, like the ones I have mentioned, and others…the TS-XW is widely supported by these, just don’t judge an entire brand or wheel by only one game

I’m tempted to pledge FeelVR but the driver and support part is what worries me the most, the prototype still had a lot of control issues when showcased and pre-reviewed by a handful of people…hopefully the guys working on it will manage to do a refined retail product, russian engineers are smart

Choosing between Fanatec and FeelVR is a tough choice…but for now I will raise white flag…recently got a GT Omegaracing full cockpit and am waiting for a new Samsung O+ , enough to my finances to sacrifice food and beers for the next three months, LOL.

To be honest I just did it thinking it will hopefully work out and if it doesn’t it wasn’t that expensive after all (compared to other DD wheels).

They seem pretty serious about it, but in no way business men so I agree regarding support and drivers. We’ll see…

Like the Pimax it’s money spent already, so it doesn’t “count”…

It’s my first wheel and pedals not counting some random cheap wheel I bought many years ago and ended up throwing out while moving.

I’ve tried several games. Assetto Corsa doesn’t even have it listed. My impressions match other reviews that the buttons are cheap and nasty and the layout is pointless. The feedback is very notchy too

It’s strange, my T300RS works great and all buttons get mapped and work with AC, have you tried to choose the T500 profile ? But if the Thrustmaster driver in windows is installed, it should appear in AC control options in any case…

Don’t get a notchy feedback on my wheel, it’s considerably more accurate and has stronger forces than any Logitech model that I have tried, are you sure your TS-XW is working correctly ?

In any case, a racing wheel feels very much subjective to the user, but talking about force strenght the TS-XW , TS-PC and T-GT are some of the stronger forces on the market, they all mount a 40W brushless motor, and have stronger forces than Fanatec CSL Elite wheels…

Just got the wheel today it’s not been used still got that new smell to it
The wooden base is what it come on it’s going . . He as lost the desk clamp for it

Nice, and I see you have the Razer Tartarus too

I moved from ps4 to pc it’s been 3 years still carnt play with keyboard the hand pad is a godsend

Nice you got it all working. Is that dirt rally?

I spent the whole year building this DIY rig only to find Dirt rally doesn’t support my wheel. Just spent the whole day trying to get it to work :frowning:
