I just think at times they were too quick to respond with “yes”.
I couldn’t agree more with that statement!!!
agree and make it really Premium headset with OLED !
Nah let’s just spend $9000 on thst Nvidia card with the Hbm2 memory Linus used on his legit 10k demo.
Btw - Can I borrow 9k?
Depends on the quality of their eye tracker. But if that works good then the distortion render phase, so the rendering that the HMD does, could easily be implementing foveated rendering.
Under sampling your apt to get heavy aliasing are you not?
The resl question is how will the anx7538/9 chips be with the built in flexible scalers?
Might even be the kick the 8k needs.
People are talking about heavy oversampling the 8k. What difference is there between heavy oversampling 1440p or undersampling 4k? Would probably result in the same GPU load, but with better quality. The HMD would be much more future proof and in less demanding games you might not even need to undersample that much at all.
Well that would be even better, if it had the option to also scale. Win/win, only advantages.
Only if Rgb & not Pentile. But than prepare for StarVR pricing.
That & why not license Fove to help.
Why if Pimax would offer upgrading the 8k to one of the new anx chips I’d pay to send & have it upgraded.
As these chips are not available yet & are compatible to use in 7530 applications.
I feel like Pimax is just waisting a lot of time with the Pimax 8k, that could better be used for developing the Pimax 8k-X. Most people seem to want the Pimax 5k+ anyway.
This is something they would need to outline (with potential benefits and effects) before decisions are made between the various models. It is already hard enough to make the decision.
nah, dont think so - its only difference between pricing of 2x Oled’s vs 2x LCD’s, how munch it will cost ? 200~400 $ more ?
Well 4k sharp panel under $100 qhd oled for samsung over $200. That was for 60hz panels.
So $200 to $400 plus once you add in the higher refreshes.
I would be more interested in waiting on non lcd Quantum dot displays.
Dell canceled there oled monitor due to a wide variety of things including Burnin & oled organic breakdown & cost.
1 in 4 oled panels made is a success. (Don’t have link).
Keep in mind 2 those oled I quoted are pentile & we’d want Rgb oled so even more in price.
I do want a 4k lcd sharp or 2 for an overhead projector.
Somehow I suspect any 8k sent in for an 8kX upgrade, should such be offered, would in fact be a trade-in instead – I can’t imagine it would be a better cost proposition to sit down and rip the old one open, to replace the PCB, than just shipping you a new 8kX out of the storehouse, and hawking/gifting the old 8k somewhere as a refurbished unit.
Totally with Sjef on the scrap-8k-and-go-ham-on-8kX stance. I may have opined something to that effect before…
Hey @Sjef i’m just curious, you seem really into the idea of the StarVR One even at a SHOCKINGLY high price. But, the resolution seems to be reeeeally low? Do you really think the screen type is good enough to make up for that? That resolution stretched out across 200fov seems like it would be well below your demands for something competing with your 4K experience. I’m curious why you’re so into the StarVR One.
Yeah I’m honestly kind of on board with you both there too. I mean I’m largely guessing on time lines but considering a few sources now have foveated rendering up and running already gives me hope it shouldn’t take too long to get into an 8K-X. At that point it should shred performance requirements massively.
I mentioned elsewhere I think trying to significantly improve the 8K seems like flogging a dead horse. I don’t see why they need to scrap it though. Some people like it for the SDE and blacks for movies etc. I just agree that they shouldn’t spend any more time on it seeing as we seem to have all the tech already (as far as I can see) to make an 8K-X with foveated rendering that would run fine with current GPU’s.
Next toy on my list. BS Marketing?
