Good discussion on using AVP.
Guys,
May I suggest both of you take a cold shower and then delete a number of posts?
Thank you
Sincerely,
The (few remaining) other users of the forum
Yes you’re very right, I just deleted my last posts. Let’s keep this thread about the AVP.
Here’s a question for AVP or Apple users
Can I walk into an Apple store to book my AVP demo?
I’ve tried doing it online which seems to involve creating an Apple ID which is far as I got it always gives an error message and I can’t create an ID
I booked mine with an apple ID that I made. I don’t have any other Apple gear so didnt have any ID, but I had not problems creating one. I’m sure though that they can do that in the store for you.
Thanks @Axacuatl & @XRC for helping us realize where we’re both going wrong.
Djonko, I have deleted several posts and made some edits on some. Please review and if needed please pm with any concerns. Let’s work on becoming the team we once were during the early days of the KS.
Here is Reddit topic; I am sure you will appreciate in R/VisionPro
Thanks for the update. It’s really important we are civil to each other despite disagreement over technology.
I’ve seen popular website like roadtovr and upload completely ruined by this toxicity in the hys comments, typically a single individual that has been plaguing disqus for several years and down votes everyone or makes toxic posts.
I come here to share and enthuse about XR technology, and thoroughly enjoy talking with like minded people.
One of the big problems communities have is taking things the wrong way.
Karl for example like Sadly it’s Bradley both often have some actually good info in their stuff. But often ruin much of their content with some form of theatrics.
Bradley though I will say has matured quite a bit since the days where he would suggest a hair in a demo came from inappropriate places.
I will admit quite freely Karl’s good info on his AVP lens compare to Q3 was contaminated by his very poor titling of the Article.
The AVP does not have “Image quality issues”. Like the heading suggests to be true. Like I had said clickbait nonsense.
I should have maybe just pulled the actual good info from the Article like the Lens tests and the SVG fonts/icons info. As that is good info. That wouldn’t be colored poorly by a very poorly chosen title.
Something more like:
“AVP lenses vs Q3. Also AVP methods for sharper menus”
I skimm articles for the good parts if there are ones in a what seems like purely a bad article/YT peice.
While that impressions Bradley gave at that time on the Crystal was quite poor due to his theatrics regarding the hair. He had some good info as well.
I was disappointed to hear he was brigaded by unhappy pimax consumers. Though Bradley did do a follow video apologizing for his conduct. Which really showed on his part a lot of maturity and positive growth.
Bradley has desired to test the Pimax Crystal Super so let’s see what can be arranged…
@Djonko this evaluation from trying it. I think is on par with what you have been saying and is quite impressive.
And yes, as I have said would like to go for a demo. Just need to wait til there is real reason to go to Halifax for more than a demo XP.
Not sure if will have time in Sept but ATM that looks to be the earliest might have a chance to do so.
Just note like a journalist & YouTuber I am not opposed to someone sending me one to try out. ![]()
Going to Apple store in Regents Street today to see if I can demo AVP as the online sign-up isn’t working…
Well the nice people in the store signed me up so going back tomorrow morning to try the AVP.
Exciting to have something like this to check out, feels like my first demo with Microsoft Hololens and Magic Leap 1.
Awesome! Looking forward to reading your thoughts
What happened?
Sorry my Pixel 7 has problems editing text and scrambles it up sometimes so I deleted my post after failing to edit it
Relayed my thoughts to a friend yesterday, I’ve copied here to save writing out again:
"Well that was interesting!
Pass through worse than expected although seeing hands and arms was good with decent masking
Displays very good, nice blacks and colours, seems bright enough.
Lenses good but noticeably smaller fov especially vertical quite cramped.
Audio cannot comment as busy store, would like to try again with audio headphones
Good customer experience with thoughtful onboarding and good suite of curated experiences, very well rehearsed and professionally organised.
Quick face scan using their iPhone and they built my demo AVP downstairs before bringing it up with the right headband and light seal.
Found the device comfortable apart from feeling metal clips on sides of dual headband pressing into my bald head. Didn’t find it front heavy during my demo but I’m used to Pimax 1.2kg monster
Overall very impressive hardware achievement considering running on device . Battery+tether no problem to use or manage, no different to magic leap 1 with its computing puck/battery.
Most impressive was dinosaurs and an Apple video promotional with high wire, sports, Alicia Keys, etc. With the ultra HD cameras you can really show off the AVP display.
Eye tracking generally good but a bit imprecise at times the hand tracking quite good but feels like low frame rate not as performant as ultraleap.
The demo was as about 45 minutes total with about 30 minutes in headset. I didn’t get to try the moon environment but the environment by water was very impressive and they used this to demonstrate the digital crown.
Thinking about it this morning I didn’t get a “wow” moment but I’ve been spoiled by using high resolution PCVR, however it was an amazing piece of hardware and made me think of Google’s Daydream View headset similar soft fabrics and slightly cramped fov!
