8KX and Nvidia drivers issue

Cannot get my 8kx to work using the current drivers with a 5080 OC. Has anyone had success with the 5080?

We’re still waiting for an update from the Nvidia team.

I would say pimax needs to put some urgency on this fix.

Ironic that you could pair that statement with literally everything pimax related right now and it wouldn’t be out of place

We’ve been sending them emails every week asking for updates and have also sent the headsets to the devs.

However, we’ve only been receiving updates about twice a week—or sometimes just once a month.

Well, its been over a month now.

I understand this may ultimately be an NVIDIA driver issue, and I don’t doubt that Pimax has been communicating with them behind the scenes.

That said, from a customer perspective, the result is still the same: a ~€1500 enthusiast headset losing compatibility with modern drivers after only a few years on the market.

Many of us have now been waiting roughly 18 months for a proper resolution, while remaining locked to increasingly outdated driver versions. In my case, those older drivers are already beginning to show age-related issues in newer games and software.

I’m still following the situation patiently, and I genuinely hope a solution is eventually found. But I also have to be honest: it’s made me very hesitant to invest in another high-end Pimax headset until there’s stronger confidence that these products will maintain long-term compatibility and usability beyond a ~3 year window.

The Dream Air and newer headsets look extremely appealing technically, but long-term platform confidence matters just as much as specs for products in this price range.

The fact of the matter is, this seems to be the norm. We send in reports and tickets nonstop, and try to get any of these issues resolve and its mostly what you see here.

After a year(maybe 2 at most) the other headsets are ignored and the next one is in line.
All support and issues start popping up and is just on the back burner when asked.

this is something i paid attention and noticed over the last 9 years as a 2017 backer.

my 8KX is useless and i cant do anything with it, and cant even use what i paid for.
let alone try to turn it in for a working headset…
just a 1300$ paperweight, that my 5K super outshines it in everyway.

My PC has the 5090 and I am stuck with 2 dead Pimax 8KX headsets.

So now that the buyers of Pimax 8KX headsets finally have access to PC’s that can meet the demands of the 8KX at its widest FOV, they no longer work??

I have been a supporter of Pimax since the Kickstarter days. For good reasons I stopped sending my hard earned money to Pimax after the 8KX was released. As of today, this fiasco with the 8KX DisplayPort issues just confirms as to why I no longer buy Pimax headsets. It boggles my mind that people are still buying their half baked headsets. I think the only buyers Pimax can round up are new users.

How about a program where we can send our 8KX headsets in for a hardware change instead of relying on Nvidia??

Hello, any news?

Nothing from Pimax?

Last I heard. They are still waiting on Nvidia, unfortunately.

There are still no updates from the NVIDIA team, but I’ll ask about the progress again during tomorrow’s meeting with the lead developer.

Hi guys.

I’ve been scouring the internet for as much information as I can find on this issue and, although I haven’t seen it mentioned in this thread, I’ve come to the conclusion that it seems to only be 2076 units affected.

I read one guy saying he has two 8kx’s (one a KDMAS & the other a DMAS) and a 5090. And only the KDMAS works. If what he is saying is true that would seem to be fairly conclusive

Also, I’ve read some people saying their 30 series cards don’t work with the latest drivers, but my 3070 is working fine with my 2075 8kx

Is anyone here with the issue using a 2075 8kx? That’ll blow my theory out of the water if so…

my 2076 works fine with steam vr

Pimax Vision 8kX DMAS, 2076, FW: 2.1.255.2003
PimaxPlay 1.43.9.272
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080, Nvidia Driver 596.49
Lighthouse 1.0

Interesting, thanks.

I read this thread back again, and had missed someone saying that they upgraded from a 40 series to 50 series and that solved it for them. That doesn’t fit in with what I was thinking either lol.

Oh well. I have a 5070 coming in a few days to replace my 3070 (which is working fine) and I’m just hoping and praying it works

EDIT: I meant to quote IG88 but it didn’t work for some reason

i have a 2075 and other than some weird audio issues the headset works flawlessly

Just for information, my headset is 2076, and since i bought the 5080 it works flawlessly. Have a nice day everyone, and, of course, i hope this issue will be fixed soon, since our visor is really awesome still. I LOVE the huge FOV it has.

Just received my 5070 and it works great. Very relieved

Hopefully Nvidia/Pimax pull their finger out and get things sorted for the rest of you still having the issue.

This post on Reddit goes over what Nvidia did to break compatibility. Display Port timings change.

What we need is more ppl hammering Nvidia forum on this issue as with VR being a niche and Nvidia’s focus on AI they don’t seem to be making any priority to fix it. And without Nvidia’s support it won’t likely be possible to fix.

This is full circle as AMD GPU driver for VR was broken for years between RX line and finally fixed after the Vega 64.

It might even become an idea to switch to Red as they seem to have their sh|t going well now

I just updated to the latest Nvidia driver (610.47) and now my 8KX is working.
I don’t know why it started working, but I’ll record my system specifications.

Pimax Vision 8KX KDMAS 2076
FW: V2.1.255.2001 90Hz
PimaxPlay 1.38.01.01
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090, Driver 610.47
VIVE Base Station 2.0
Valve Index Controller
Logicool Unifying Receiver(Watchman Dongle)

Thanks to both the Nvidia and Pimax teams for supporting older VR devices, and to all the 8KX users who continued to raise issues.
