I cannot see how a CPU could cause aliaising. Lower FPS yes but a difference in picture quality no unless you got some autoquality routine active.
I hope you get this fixed because you are the only person aside from the three testers who has both headsets.
Right now I am decided for the 5K+ but if what you are experiencing is not a bug the 8K is back in the game.
It might bottleneck the gpu and lower the fps, but how did you came to the conclusion that it causes the jagged edges, I don’t get it
Okay the cpu was the issue. It wasn’t sucking in enough air the filter was a bit dirty restricting enough air flow to throttle the cpu. FpsVR didn’t show cpu doing consistent spike just the odd one. @Skyrimer also I beleive has both.
I am still getting some jaggies in Distance Main menu on the road background. The 8k though dies seem to be still a bit better on jaggies though softer. Both Text easy to read BigScreen. Text being softer (slightly fuzzed) but no issue to read.
I checked out hellblade, Distance, msi electric city & climbtime, Alien Isolation
Climbtime is free. The walls with words are a bit jaggy at farther distsnce on both. But 8k seems less. Both text can be read easily.
Alien Isolation looks good. Menu text a bit off on both headsets (blurred) but in game terminals looks good. Still some jaggies at distances on both.
All in all both perform reasonably even on fps bouncing around up to max fps.
Still going to check it out on i7 8700k to see if better with jaggies due to better clock & no of cores. My Upgrade though on cpu is highly likely. But folks with an i5 6500 or better should have reasonable experience if an i5 is strong enough with tracking added to the mix.
Separate this if this is off topic, but so far which one do you like better.
I have an i7 and I am getting a 2080ti soon. My ram is not done right(4GB SR and 8GB SR) and will need an upgrade, but it should be OK for now. It works well on the Vive.
I am still slightly on the fence as far as 8K and 5K+. Colors and Blacks are better on 8K from what I hear, clarity takes a hit and some people even say the SDE is more noticeable on the 8K. Have you noticed any of that? If you only could choose one which would it be? If you don’t wish to answer yet, I understand as you haven’t had it that long yet.
I still dont get it. The CPU has nothing to do with jaggies. That is simply the work of your GPU. If your CPU clocks down your GPU will drop FPS too but thejaggies stay the same unless you change some graphics options.
If you expect less jaggies by installing that 8700K then prepare to be disapointed. More FPS - yes especially since your current CPU is throttling. Less jaggies - definatly not.
The 8700K is a hothead - make sure to have a clean cooler. I delidded mine to get the head under control. Even with watercooling it ran hot as hell. Overclocked though.
Tbh I am leaning towards the 8k. Text readability to me is really good on both. Yes the 5k is a bit more crisp. The 8k really isn’t too soft. Both are handling fps well for their respected refresh rates.
I think it will depend on what your using it for. Eith getting a 2080 ti will help either & really may make the the 8k shine with it’s potenial.
@Skyrimer also recently got both & should weigh in. @Ludiks is using the 8k on a 1060 6g with success.
@VoodooDE has or had both & is now on the 2080 ti & could give his thoughts of 8k performance. His view on gpu muscle & 8k would be valuable insight.
The i7 8700k is not mine & I am sure he has a goid cooler running at 5ghz. The simple truth the thermal throttling was creating at least some if tge jaggies & making text in menus often bad. Though didn’t seem to be affecting the fps much.
Will know better once I see it in something stronger. So I don’t fully get it either but can’t argue eith the results after cleaning the filter.
Technically games will actually be somewhat more demanding on the cpu when the FOV is increased. As often you cheat with physics calculations on things outside your view.
Sorry I only have the 8k, si I can’t compare it with 5k+.
My bad. I am sure someone recently received both.
Has the gamma fix been released for the 8K or not yet?
I haven’t observed any new settings in pitool. So probably not unless it was just a fix with no settings options.
To answer your question, yes you can use your glasses with the Pimax.
