I have identified an issue with numerous HMD black screen disconnects when using Pimax Play 1.43.7 during video creation over the past week, and just sharing with users in case you are also experiencing issues.
PiService.exe runs as an Interactive Service on Windows 25H2, however interactive services is now a depreciated service, I was testing Le Mans Ultimate, and was experiencing multiple black screen issues, I address this in the video below
After going through extensive troubleshooting, and narrowing the issue down in event viewer, multiple instances of VBScript errors, and Interactive Services warnings have been occuring, these were previously mitigated by using an elevated command prompt to allow interactive services
However KB5077181 no longer permits this action, see the attached screenshots, and the current course of action to resolve is to uninstall this update, it is also a known issue for other gaming related problems, to pause the update in services, set Windows Update from Auto to Disabled in processes, highlighting this to everyone who may also be experiencing similar issues, as LMU also uses Easy Anti Cheat, the benign process error may also be conflicting, as this was also an issue with iRacing when EasyAntiCheat was introduced, I have also assisted fellow creator MacInVR who was also experiencing problems on LMU as well, the uninstall also resolved his issues.
It’s very similar, but I’m facing a similar problem. And I created a topic for discussion, but it remained unanswered. At any given time, the screens turned off for a couple of seconds and then turned on, with the loss of tracking and the sounds of a connected USB device.
I couldn’t get the reasons, but I took some action: I connected all the equipment with motors to the computer via USB isolators and used different sockets with mains filters. Lowered the PimaxPlay version.
But I can say for sure that it does not depend on the Windows version and installed updates.
If you look at the VBScript error, these occurred every time a disconnect took place, the HMD completely blacked out causing a disconnect, I initially thought it was an anti cheat issue as historically iRacing when moving to EasyAntiCheat had issues.
However upon timing precisely the disconnects to the event viewer log, the PiServer.exe was being halted
Exactly the same problem as fellow creator MacInVR was having and now both resolved by uninstalling the update, and stopping updates temporarily
I would assume that Microsoft will patch the issue but PiServer.exe also runs as an interactive service, such services are now depreciated and this Security Update seemingly enforces that further
No testing was done with any other titles, but obviously in LMU (or any other Sim Racing Titles) the last thing that is needed is headset disconnects
Once the update was rolled back neither Mac or myself have experienced any further issues
Also of relevance Visual Basic Scripts are now being depreciated
Thank you for posting this. My super would come on just fine and after a minute or so the screen would go black. I uninstalled this update and everything is working again as it should.
In search of a solution, I even installed Windows 10. But the problem was not solved. I’m not sure, but there shouldn’t be a KB5077181 analog in the W10. Regretfully (or not?) outages occur quite rarely and unpredictably, and I was unable to identify a pattern from the occurrence.
I check my PC and doesn’t look like KB5077181 was installed. However, sometimes when i load up Pimax interface…(you know when you press the pi button?). So, when i press it, the screen struggle and lagging and flickering and so I try to press again to remove it but sometimes it is so lagging it won’t register. IF i don’t press the pi button, everything is fine…no lag. But i have to press pi button to calibrate my room floor…this is annoying. When i restart Pimax Client, it still behaves the same. When I restart PC and try to set up room floor, it still does the same….so what’s going on? So, I thought maybe there is not enough light…but I turn on the light. It was not like that before. So i ended up calibrate the floor using the Pimax client on the PC instead.
