What is the SDE like on 8KX?

MY 8KX arrived 3days ago, I had a good test and my first priority is to see whether the SDE is totally eliminated like some said. Well, you can too experience what I am experiencing, even without the headset. I took a short video clip of Netflix series: Mars, make sure you watch it in 1440p option, if you have a Netflix account, search for Mars the series, in season 1 episode 4, 29min into the series, you will expect the SDE identical to the video clip while watching a movie.

It’s super difficult to see even for an eagle eye’d person. Even in that instance they have to stare at a solid spot that is stationary.

For movies I’ve never spoken to a person who could perceive SDE in a moving image on an X.

I don’t see any SDE like 95% of the time. Only notice SDE on white color mostly.

I’m not sure but I think you’re demonstrating the pixel density here, not the SDE?

The SDE is the gaps between the pixels.

While you can see that grid in the video, I can’t see a grid with my own eyes. It’s weird because I can sometimes see them with the corner of my eye, or on white lines (like the side of a road).

I think it depends on your vision. I am quite near-sighted.

I can clearly see the pixel edge grid on my 8KX in light-colored areas. I also see horizontal lines (similar to an old CRT television) on bright colored areas (like red).

I would not call that SDE. I can mostly ignore the artifacts mentioned above. I was almost never able to ignore the SDE on my 8K.

This is more like what I see:

I would have to say it must be hard to see or impossible. I’m pretty happy with my 5k+ I’m aware its there but I can forget about it completely at least 1/2 the time. The X would be a non issue at all. Not really worth mentioning on a bad note it is only a positive thing.

Its still there, but you really have to look for it.

The only thing that is disturbing me is the mura… if you play a game like lone echo(in the beginning) or somegame whit bright scenes you will see it alot…

I see it in lighter colored areas. I was hoping not to see it, reading about other people experiences. But for me there is no “razor-sharp” quality. All edges of objects on screen are somewhat blurred for me. Not my 1440 monitor-like quality at all. I use PT=1.5, SS=50%, 16384, 2000.

Have you tried PT=1.0 and SS 120%?

Yes, same for me, I’d say on a very clear scene I can’t see directly pixels but when I move my head I feel them in the sweet spot… May be I will be totaly unable to feel them in a future 8K panels !

If it is blurred, then I think you might need to try cleaning the lenses or make sure you have found the sweet spot. Image should be very sharp.

I do not have perfect vision, but still easily see the SDE. Saying this, you can also ignore it easily. The comparison of the clip is what I see. The 8KX still a very good headset, comparing to my 5K+. I would expect the the next generation flagship HMD from Pimax would totally eliminate the SDE. I would recommend the 8KX to my friends (If they have the money to burn.). If not, 5K+ still a good HMD to start with.
Edit: I just adjusted to @NextGenVR recommendation. the density of the pixels is much better watching movie on bigscreen beta. Comparing to the video clip I have posted, is 80% improvement.

Thanks for that suggestion…I tried, it felt a tiny bit better.

Even though I’m having other problems on my 8kx which I figure I can solve sooner or later as far as I can see is I really don’t see any

Its there, but hardly noticeable, and only really noticeable on solid color backgrounds. And I’d classify it more as a soft texture now than a screen door, its really quite good.
