True, but the main problem with disappointing the majority is, until the kick starter ends, anyone can take back there pledge. Imagine you see a chance for a free unit, apply (or enter the lottery) and you don’t make the cut. You have the money to buy a unit, but at this point your pissed, etc so much that you cancel your pledge.
Would a lot of people cancel there pledge due to not winning some lottery? No. But I would bet more people would than the number of free sets, even if out of spite. Until the kickstarter is over, the creator has to keep providing incentives for us (the backers) to stick around. Once they start pandering to a minority (the winners of such said lottery) they risk backlash from the majority.
none of this matters until PiMax gets involved in the voting. So far this has not happened. No matter how many ideas we come up with, they have the final say. I don’t like the lottery, or the free shipping ideas both of those are in equitable. favor some but not everyone. I like another discount coupon that could be applied to anything we want including the wireless module. That would make the wireless even less expensive. I don’t think Eye tracking (foveated rendering) is close enough for it to be a feasible module. Smell o vision is not that appealing. I like the path to 8k X, but it would not exactly be fair to those that pledged it. The hand tracking module is the most likely thing it costs $100.00. So it would fit right in.
I used my 100. rebate for the BE toward the hand tracking module. I’m sure they would let us apply them to something else. So far they have been fair and honest with me.
But if I don’t want eye tracking that doesn’t help me?? (Actually I do) my point being that some stretch goals can’t please everyone, as per the wireless coupon won’t.
Hi. From what I can see, on the Pimax Kickstarter page, what’s available appears to have almost sold out? E.g. in single items, no 8K or 8K-X headsets are left! This will be a problem surely, when advertising 8K models from here on to individual customers if only the less popular 5K is left?
Curent pledge total: $1,822,707
So we only need $177,293 more (out of $354,370 total sales possible from un claimed pledges - 130 early bird 5K/27 vr party packages) to make 2 million stretch goal possible.
If all headsets are sold out, this gives us a total of $2,177,077 from sales ($1,822,707 current total + $354,370 left on available stock) = 2.177 million, not 2.5 million or more.
Or can and do people make large pledges on Kickstarter, without ‘rewards’? E.g. can multiple investors pledge $100,000 with no reward, because they just ‘can’, on Kickstarter? I’m not familiar with the system. Thanks.
I was thinking the same thing. This should literally benefit everyone, doesn’t matter if they’ve purchased the 5k, 8k or 8k X. One base station more means more tracking and it can also mean that the people who have backed only the headset can enjoy seated experiences out of the box without requiring already having the vive’s base stations.
