I ordered my Super in April based on the understanding that it would ship in June. I’m ok with delays and I expected them, but its now the middle of August and I feel like I’m being jerked around.
First, after checking on status for the third time, I was told the headset had been manufactured and was awaiting QA.
Next, after waiting a couple weeks, I was told the headset had passed QA, but to make sure the unit was “perfect”, it was undergoing a second round of QA and would be shipped in a couple of weeks.
Next, I was told the headset had passed second QA and was being shipped to a warehouse in the US and I should have it in a couple weeks.
Next, I was told the headset arrived in US customs and will be sent to the warehouse for further processing….and, wait for it, I should receive an update in a couple of weeks.
Meanwhile, there is no status update in my account and even though I have asked for tracking or proof that it has actually shipped to the US, I am yet to receive anything. Why is the headset shipped from China to a warehouse in the US, rather than being shipped to me directly? Seems like a totally unnecessary step to justify further delays.
I just don’t trust this company anymore and I’m not sure what to believe at this point.
Sorry for the sort of pointless post, but I’m just venting I guess.
I’m not sure what happened to your unit but shipping from China went petong, once Trump announced the change in tarrifs. From April 10th Pimax started bulk shipping to the US and customers who ordered after this date were charged an extra $75.
Pimax also announced a new factory was being set up in the US. I’m not sure if this went ahead or has been complete.
People who wanted their order direct from China had to pay for the extra Import fee’s and that was going up and down day by day.
You can read the post here.
We do give users in the US the option, that if you want to receive the product as soon as possible (within 3-5 working days), we can choose international express delivery. But you will have to bear the corresponding tariff costs, and these are, in this case, non-refundable with Prime. (But Prime costs are refundable.) If you wish to use this method, please contact our customer support.
It would be good if Pimax did an update on what’s happening with Tarrifs and shipping.
I also ordered Super back on April. Now I got a few emails from Pimax and they were keeping me updated about the shipment.
My Super is now in the US and coming to me soon. Can’t wait to take it to a VR spin !
Yeah, I was well aware that Pimax wouldn’t really deliver my Super on June, as promised, but I had known them long enough to be sure that they will deliver the good eventually.
We’ve been allocating batches to local warehouses. For example, if you’re in the US, your headset will be shipped to our US warehouse and then delivered from there.
Could you please share your order or ticket number with me? I’ll check with the team and provide you with the latest shipping update.
Got the brand new headset in a brand new box. An inspection sheet says everything was inspected and passed. Then when I connect it to my GeForce 3090Ti GPU, it shows USB3 is connected but DP cable is not.
Well, this experience kinda fits the title “Very Frustrated with Shipping”. I created a ticket right away, but man oh man, It brings back some terrible memories of my first Pimax 5k. Same kind of error, the DP cable was also not working well.
Updated: I followed the Guide step by step strictly: 1. Unplug all cables 2. Connect the power adapter 3. Connect the DP cable 4. Connect the USB3 cable.
Then suddenly it works and asks me to activate the headset. The activation failed twice until I finally get my headset activated. Wow, this process is really not for anyone without patience.
The very strange thing is: once it works, it is solid. I didn’t have any problem of connection after that.
The image quality is really the best I’ve ever seen. Pictures are smooth and detailed. The FOV is great.
There are chromatic aberration problem. It’s better than the Varjo Aero. I need time to adjust it to fit my eyes.
The biggest problem was the stuttering issue. At first, even when nothing is loaded except Pimax Home, it’s still severely stutter every few seconds. Feels like the headset can drop from 90hz to 10hz or worse from time to time, while the GPU was only utilized at 20%.
After changing a lot of settings, including disable most features, motion tracking and both controllers, lower the resolution per eye to 2000p, suddenly I found out that if I set the “Room lighting frequency” to 50hz, the stuttering is reduced quite a lot. Have no idea why. Right now there is still some slight stuttering, but it’s quite acceptable at this point.
The 8k video playback is another story. Once again lots of trial and errors. Finally I have a stable setting that allows me to play 8k videos at GPU running at 30 to 70% with minimal stuttering.
This is a full day of tinkering with my Super. I’m glad that everything finally works out as it should.
The process assigning doesn’t help much. The real issue is choosing between Pimax OpenXR and SteamVR for the main OpenXR runtime.
Pimax OpenXR has additional features in “Device Settings → Games” page, including GPU upscaling, image quality setting, Dynamic Foveated Rendering…etc. It should have great help for the games and apps using this runtime, but from time to time it starts stuttering. Right now image setting to 85% and GPU upscaling with NIS balance setting seems work well.
Yet SteamVR is more stable. Once it’s working fine, I will rarely see any stuttering.
So far the best quality I can get comes from using SteamVR and Play’A VR Player with 8k setting.
I will keep exploring for better settings for VR video players.
