Vertical flashes / artifacts in Crystal Light - Pimax play 1.43.1

**Title:**Vertical flashes / artifacts in Crystal Light

**Describe Bug Below:**I bought a new (unlocked) Pimax Crystal Light from UnboundXR.nl yesterday. Now i’ve been testing the HMD all day and at one point i found it had vertical Flashing lines/artifacts in the screens both left and right eye. This occurs when you are looking a desktop in VR and when you are starting some games it gets worse, in game i haven’t seen it yet, but i also didn’t see it the first hours after i installed the HMD. I have reinstalled Pimax play 2 times (wiped caches and saved setting). Tried all kinds of options turning off everything possible and one by one activating a feature, but it’s consistent on all settings. it happens with and without steamVR running. Changed DP placement on GPU card, tried many reboots, closed all running background processes that are not needed to run VR and games, still the artifacts vertical flashes (looks like lighting, so fast the flash on the screen, almost impossible to make a photo off while running the HMD as it’s also inconsistent Any idea or solution? or is the HMD broken? I looks like software / screen error. System is running a 5800X3D, 32GB mem and Nvidia RTX4080 super. Drivers are the newest from Nvidia, HMD also newest firmware and Pimax Play also the newest version.

Hello,

It might be a faulty cable.

You can also check whether the DP connector on the headset side is firmly plugged in — a loose connection can cause flashing as well.

Yeah i was thinking of that also, but i did push a little on it, did seem firmly pressed in, but had more the idea it was fixed to the HMD unit, but it’s replaceable?
Have to take a look tonight, at work atm, so can’t look into it.

The only issue i have with this idea is that on the few low entry games i started i didn’t see it, yeah i did only at boot up, some games just crash instand, most of the time when they launch SteamVR, but i think that is another topic and not direct related to this, as i have this with and without SteamVR running (and SteamVR is set to Pimax openXR runtime)

Really frustrating this…

I can uninstall SteamVR and reinstall it also to see if this helps..
Also still have the sony PSVR2 app installed, maybe this done something to steamVR and my system somewhere, although unlikely, but i’m willing to test (still need it to use my PSVR2 for simple games that need good tracking, as the Pimax HMD tracking kinda is meh.

The cable is replaceable.

If the game crashes on launch, try lowering the image quality to see whether that helps.

The crashing is more due to me having set some start-up commands in steam for some… like: -VR HMD=SteamVR and then i have a conflict… atleast that is what i think for some games… other just run perfect, but that i can solve when i have found where the flashing artifacs are caused from…

I will try to find a vid on cable replacement to see how it’s fitted on the headunit

Still if any one else have idea’s, please let me know.
As i haven’t got any reply back from my support ticket at Pimax, hope they have a solution.. if all is not helpen then i prolly need to RMA it and that’s sad because i was so happy having perfect lenses out of the box after reading all the horror stories haha

Ohw one other thing…
I’m running 2 extra monitors on this card and the HMD.

  1. LG C2 full 4K 120hz (main monitor) 42inch
  2. MSI Ultra wide 1440P 40inch

Again thinking outload…. Could it be that running those to at max resolution and framerate might cuase issue for the Pimax?
Not having any problems with my PSVR2 tho in this setup.. Had some time at work to read found some one talking about lowering resolution for your working screens, but still that shouln’t be the problem i think… when we are not gaming and only in Pimax home…

Ok i seem to have solved the issue…. fingers crossed ofc… not started any racing or flying sim yet (eyes are tired from testing the hmd, so call it a day)

So this is what i have done before giving any power to the HMD:
I checked the cable (DP) again, didn’t find it lose or any.
I switched USB port once again…
Checked base settings in windows graphics settings if all are correct.
(Disable “Game Mode” and disable “Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling” (HAGS) ).
Then double checked Nvidia panel settings (again) All where correct for using VR as found every where on-line for this headset.

Then lastly before i started the HMD i did check one more thing i haven’t checked before… and that was my second monitor refresh rate … ohw… it’s 24hz higher then my main monitor running at 144 and my main was on 120… so i set it to 120hz.
Then i started the HMD… and tested a few games and desktop mode, stream etc… didn’t see any flashing as before…

Don’t know if it’s fixed, haven’t run the HMD as hot as yesterday, but will give it a good run this weekend.

So….. I do strongly believe the difference in refresh rate on the monitors could have been the issue.

For now abit more relieved

Yes, the monitor refresh rate can also play a role. Since everything is driven by the GPU—and the GPU has limited bandwidth—some users aren’t able to run two monitors and a Pimax headset at the same time because the bandwidth is already maxed out.

In the meantime, keep testing and let me know whether the issue improves or still persists. If it continues, our tech team will need to diagnose it and provide an appropriate solution

I do seem to have the same problem with my 14900kf and 4080 super with pimax crystal light.
i also bought it from UnboundXR.nl and also im running 2 screens 4k at 144hz as main display and a 1080p screen at 60 with the light. i mainly game on Iracing in vr so i dont know how it would be in other games.

Also i seem to have a problem with the headset and pimax crystal light when im in a ai session in iracing and i try to open the overlay and open the desktop.
My frames will go to 1 or even less and alot of aritfacting vertical lines and alot of crashing of the pimax crystal light not sure why this is because when im not using iracing i can use the desktop funtion perfectly. i will check my cable on the headset if its seated correctly later.
on my pc its on a 10g usb port since that was the fastest available for me and the 4080 super has DP 1.4

You may want to try to unplug one monitor and see if this helps.
