Varjo Aero sounds promising

Kevin, could you update here (or in a new thread) with any follow-up?

So it seems the new distortion profile is out for the VR3 (same as at the one in the aero), supposedly it’s MUCH better now. Anyone tried it? @NextGenVR maybe? I won’t be home until friday myself, so can’t test it yet.

Does anybody know a place where you can go and try out a Varjo Aero before you buy?

So I finally arrived back home and tried the new distortion profile (which is the same as the Aero will have). I had high hopes but again feel MRTV was a bit too enthusiastic. It’s certainly an improvement but also still far from solved. I feel it’s quite similar to the distortion that we had in the early days on the Pimax 5k+. I guess that’s about as good as it gets on asphalt lenses without a dynamic distortion correction algo

As people know, to me distortion is important, I’ve always been vocal about my criticism towards the distortion on the Pimax. I know others don’t mind at all or don’t even see it. But I’m now considering to cancel my Aero pre-order and wait for something better to come along (rumors about the new Index headset are heating up!)

its the reason why i sold my varjo vr3.
I couldnt stand the disortion somehow,But indeed some people dont mind it at all.
But the clarity was mind blowing…

I do hope there comes a good suprise nextyear from valve or some other brand and i hope with some realy good micro oleds… After trying the oled panels for fun again in vr i realy realy miss them… It ads so much in vr…

@Djonko @RaiN274 when you ordered the Aero, did you get a “the transaction requires authentication” onscreen message with no confirmation of purchase at the end of the purchase process?

I was contemplating the varjo yesterday, but decided against it for now. The argument against, that weighed the heaviest was that I find it likely that the competition will deliver headsets close enough in performance, but at a lower price which will lower the re-sell value. Given the price for the varjo +tax and import tax to Norway (2000 + 500 + 700= 3200 Euro) I wasn’t prepared to gamble on the re-sell value a year or two away.

Apara?

I have a 32x9 monitor and have noticed more distortion on it than my Pimax.

The fact that you were prepping to sell it before you even bought it, proves you made the right choice.

Hmm its about 25k with Vat and shipping so 2465 eur to Norway if you buy in the Varjo store. Still extremely expensive for the kind of FOV

Yeah, just like an F1 car is really expensive for its trunk size.

And no good audio solution and still no inky blacks(oled)

I put a varjo in the shopping cart and registered Norway as my country. It said it was 2000 (-ish) for the varjo and it also added some kind of tax which wasn’t removed when I chose my country. Usually when ordering from outside of Norway web shops tax is removed (if ordering from EU at least). So the 20 percent EU vat is removed and the you have to pay the 25 mva when you receive it in Norway. I assumed that it was 2495 or so + 25 percent import tax. It didn’t seem like it was 2000 euro from what I could tell.

I bought one and it took Norwegian tax on the order and credit card. Might have been a fault for you. I have since cancelled

No I saw the same as you, but I didn’t understand that the deal was that you pay varjo and they take care of the import taxes.

I don’t care about the audio as i use my own audio solution and the blacks are still good for what it is. Who cares about dark scenes anyway, i don’t play Elite :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Thats maybe for you,but the Grey blacks kill more games other then elite…

Night races, night flights, games were u are in dark scènes even a game like halflife gives more inmersion with highres oled screens…

But we still cant have it all(highress oled,a good audio solution with a decent mic and a high field off view)

Maybe i want to much, but i sold my varjo vr3 because off these things missing and also the warping…I want something better at this price range

It’s a lot better by now with VB 3.3 and the added features of 3.4.

I can appreciate the amazing black levels OLEDs can achieve but I have also gotten very keen on the very high brightness that LCDs can now achieve as well.

I think Pimax going with a QLED solution is a good idea on those grounds.
