I have the XR and although is there, is not bothersome because the main center area of the image is pretty good
I wanted to take good comparison shots with a full-frame camera, but unfortunately the only lenses available is for long distance shooting and unsuitable to shoot through the HMD optics. What you see are with an Iphone camera. At least both are taken with the same camera. Although not perfect, it is quite clear the Index is sharper.
Note: is not easy taking pictures with a phone

It is done through 3DLUT. Pimax should implement this in pitool.
MadVR (video filter), for example, supports 3DLUT.
IIRC the advantage of 3DLUT is the lower impact on performance because it can be done by the GPU compared to ICM profiles which are applied by the CPU.
ATM color calibration on pimax HMDs can only be used with pictures and videos, 3DLUT support in pitool would bring calibration to any content, including games.
You can see improvements of color calibration on a 5K+ here: https://community.openmr.ai/t/i-have-color-calibrated-a-5k-with-a-probe-long-technical-article-about-hmd-color-calibration/26173
Can you show something like Virtual Desktop with appropriately small text?
reading text is not great.

Agreed. There are some very specialized use cases, such as studying the limits of human optical system, experimental aviation safety equipment (eg. peripheral vision horizon display), which may now be possible because of this hardware.
My question would be how it compares to the 5k+ as thats my best headset at the moment. My HL Alyx experience was satisfactory in the 5K+. Was not bothered by sde or clarity but will be upgrading in the future for sure. Obviously 8k+ and X are priced better then StarVR but will be interested in knowing more about compatibility, resolution and FOV. Colors and black level have never been an issue for me.
StarVR should not be on anyoneâs wish list as a gaming headset. But if you are a content creator and FOV is imperative then consider it.
For gaming, personally I would take the 8kX, 8K+, then the XR. I would take the XR over the 5k+ without binking an eye
The pimax sdk introduced some difficulties in my project so I abandoned using it during development. If I felt it would be more lucrative to develop for location based operations then it appears I would choose starvr over pimax. Although Iâve enjoyed my pimax it has proven itself more tedious and suffering quality issues to trust it in a business plan. StarVR appears to be enterprise capable, user friendly and quality constructed to meet the demands. In the current economic times consumer home based software appears to be the logical approach.
StarVR is mainly enterprise, so it is better platform for development than the Pimax. As long you understand some of the limitation I have posted on my thread
