Yes Somnium World very interesting business model with crypto funding backers. Might have been a modular controller option; I was facing legal action over unintended patent infringement so couldn’t execute.
Looks like it’s coming together nicely and really wish them well with their product launch. There is definitely room in the market for high end enthusiast/prosumer gear, the SIM hardware market demonstrates this sector.
If you look at hi-fi audio separates a large number of companies producing high end equipment over many years.
owned Arcam, Marantz, Tannoy , Mission audio/home cinema equipment which reminds me of the new small XR companies producing these high end headsets catering for discerning customer.
It should be possible to sell thousands a year globally enough to sustain a lean productive team.
Yikes April coming to an end and still no Somnium Connect.
Looks like the Pimax Crystal Light will be out before the Somnium VR-1.
Both have equal resolution, no eye tracking or pass through out of the box only now the Crystal Light will be half the price of the VR-1. The VR-1 was expensive before the Pimax Light launch.
Well Somnium has had more delays on release of there headset that can make you appreciate pimax while late not as bad as Somnium that has been what almost 6 years? So long the specs have to change (Somnium)
It’s kid of sad and crazy to see Somnium go the Pimax route. The Pimax model has always been to announce products far too early, years even. Then follow with videos and video and miss release targets and now use obscure channels like Discord to get feedback when the product should be released already.
Time is moving on and now we’re in May with no Somnium Connect announced, no release date.
Pimax are announcing new products months ahead of time while we still wait for the 12k and there seems to be this crazy propaganda war going on. Lol
It’s incredible there’s all these companies building headsets and making promises yet there’s no headset releasing in the next 6 months I can see myself buying.
The real issue for Pimax was/is that many potential customers ignored the Crystal b/c they are waiting for the 12K; same could happen to the Light with the Super being announced. If the Super gets delayed for longer too, this again would just result in less sales for Pimax. Not the greatest sales strategy if you ask me.
Just came across this. So Hypervision are off on a mission to China! lol What happened to keeping production in the EU? Didn’t last long did it? So maybe Pimax can license the technology maybe.
The one thing that worries me is how Somnium and Hypervision are already looking to outsource which means they don’t have much confidence in manufacturing these lenses themselves, in quantity and lower costs.
It’s rather disheartening after 12 months of promoting we don;t seem any closer to a Prototype headset just more lens versions. I thought Hypervision had the lenses and they just needed manufacturing. But now they need more development.
Arture seems like a nice guy but I think they’ve spent the money on the VR-1 and won’t make enough money to invest in the VR-2.
If no one needs the Hypervision lenses because they already have cheaper alternatives I don’t see a Wide FOV headset coming at all.
These Somnium Videos make me feel more pessimistic. I now think Somnium are more a hindrance to Hypervision than anything else.
If Somnium said the design is finished and now we’re off to China to set up a manufactuing plant I’d be all in on the hype train.
