So after hours of tweaking, I figured out the BEST and easiest way of supersampling. Here’s how

The first slider, the application one. Not the second slider below it (that one controls the resolution of the steamvr dashboard only)

So your saying adjust the SS under “Application” not “Video”, Im asking because in one of your posts you said “Go to settings in steamvr, video, check manual override and use the slider there” or was this when your were replying to Matrioska about How to open openvr advanced settings without controllers?

I have never opened openvr advanced settings, is this in a menu when in game from the Steam Home menu?

Sorry for all the blabbing I just want to make sure I do this right! Thanks

They’re the same thing

Can I do the same thing by going to my Desktop in SteamVR in my headset. Then changing SS in Steam VR settings. I tried it while in Stand Out and for some reason the settings dont seem to take, maybe I need to restart the game but I want to see in “real time” what different SS setting will do. The reason I ask is I havnt downloaded OpenVR yet.

EDIT. I had to restart Steam VR for the SS settings to take affect :frowning:

You can open the console in your browser: 127.0.0.1:8998/console/index.html (note: SteamVR should be turned on first).

From the console you can change the 4096px limit and you can enter various commands. I frequently use the “restart” command as it allows you to quickly restart SteamVR whenever you make any changes.

Thats cool but I would probably fudge up and brick my HMD, Thanks for the advice though I might play with it a bit

Does it still work?
I checked in Assetto Corsa, did not seem to notice much of a difference.
At the same time I could not dynamically change the SS via fpsVR, there was no reaction. PiTool .121

in the actual beta (since .111 afair?) the 8192 is the default pimax presets
you can check that in the following file:
C:\Program Files\Pimax\SteamVRSupport\drivers\aapvr\resources\settings\default.vrsettings

Yes indeed it is.
That is, PiTool already defines these settings in advance as 8192…
Therefore, I did not see the difference, prescribing 8192 in the SteamVR folder. I see. Thanks.

Long ago in the forums. Getting hard to keep track myself.

Smartsmoothing generates judder for me in rFactor 2. As if the cars vibrate when moving fast. Isn’t it doing the same thing for you?

For me i stay at Pitool 1 and change ss in steam vr that way i can change in game.

No smarsmoothing for me. I disabled it because of some stutter in fast chicane when rapidly rotating head to find the apex

Smart Smooth is way better in 129 beta. It is now quite usable.

Wow!

129 beta is quite an improvement for Smartsmoothing!! Thanks @dogbite for the info! I was still on 121.

Rfactor 2 becomes much more playable now. I just did a quick test and I’m now able to race at Mid-Ohio with 11 GT3 AIs (SS 60%). Smartsmoothing keeps the fps locked at 45 and everything is smooth. There’s still a little bit of vibration here and there but almost nothing. This is what I was waiting for. With 121, I could only race 3 AIs at 64Hz at MId-Ohio.

This now rivals Oculus’ ASW.

Thanks Pimax team!!!

Good to hear that, maybe it’s time to reenable it  I’ll try it tomorrow with my new 2080 (amazon delivered it today :sunglasses: )

So just to clarify, as I see 8192 in my Pimax settings for Beta 121 - I’m currently using PiTool Render Quality at 2, SteamVR Video SS at Auto, and application SS on a manual setting where appropriate.

I guess it is no longer worth changing SteamVR to 8192, and setting PT RQ back to 1? Or is it still worth doing because you get extra granularity on the SteamVR SS slider? I’ll test myself when I get a chance, but if anyone already knows…

@Heliosurge is there a fixed link for optimal settings on the forum? Because individual forum posts get lots of chat (as they should), and also earlier settings get superseded by the latest betas…so something like this link below, but always updated and based on collective experience of the best settings and categorised by the specified PiTool version.

Appreciate with different machines and apps there is no universal answer, naturally  https://community.openmr.ai/t/pitool-setting-suggestions/9312

the 8192 is just the max. possible, if set lower it just might cap you resolution
