When playing sim racing games where you stare forward most of the time this issue not a problem (at all) But when playing games like Forefront or any fast pace game where you have to look around the mOLED seems to have a sort of “motion blur” even with solid 90fps. I have seen this as a problem before on the QLED but sadly it also is a thing on the mOLED. At the end of the day though pixel response has nothing to do with it. Micro-OLED switches in microseconds. What matters is how long each frame is lit, and that’s a firmware decision.
I think the trade off that was made is that short illumination costs brightness. Micro-OLED is already brightness-constrained relative to LCD, so running a genuinely short duty cycle on these Sony panels means a dim image. Since Pimax is targeting a bright HDR-looking picture, they extend the illumination window instead, and pay for it in motion clarity. If Pimax made that call on the micro-OLED module, the blur is baked into the firmware and there is no setting that fixes it.
My request:
Find out if Pimax Play exposes anything like “low persistence,” MPRT, or a brightness mode on the micro-OLED module specifically or if this is something that would be possible with sboys or mbucchia.
