[Replied] Vive link box needed or not?

Just received my 5k plus and I have Vive controllers and base stations and the link box. Do I need the link box to be connected with power and the usb input from my pc? Or leave it unplugged?

Congrats! Have updated your title.

Linkbox not required but some do use it for lighthouses. Have added @EarlyBackers as this will let others whom have the headset(s) know you have a question.

you dont need it but if you do use it, some have said you can take advantage of the Steam Power Management so that when you shut down steam the light houses automatically go into sleep mode. Otherwise you have to unplug each lighthouse in order to keep them from running all the time. Though some cant seem to get it to work

Linkbox > into garbage

That makes sense. I did notice my light house stay on when not using the link box and that causs my tv and audio receiver to get interference on the ir remote sensors from the light houses IR lasers. I’ll have to install some kind of inline switch to stop that annoyance when not in VR.

Maybe something like this that can turn on two devices

I would reccommend if not using the linkbox to use a remote plug switch to be able to turn off lighthouses when not in use to reduce wear & tear.

Good so you can leave in the linkbox and turn off on lighthouses that sound nice.

My link box does nothing. Lighthouses wont go to standby with or without link box.

But you only have to disconnect the B lighthouse. C then goes to standby.

Obviously not needed…or else how would people without a vive even get the pimax to work…?

I have a BT dongle, why would I need the link box to turn off the base stations?

To extend the life of the lighthouses. My understanding is that (depending on the model) there are 1 or 2 mirrors which are always moving, when the lighthouse is on.

I know, but base stations are communicating through bluetooth, from what you guys are saying I understand that the link box has a BT chip, question is why would I need the link box if I already have a BT dongle connected to my PC.

What dongle do you have? I did buy LogiLink bluetooth 4.0 but no luck so far to get it to link with base stations

I assumed my dongle was working but I didn’t know that the link box had it’s own BT chip, So I ll have to check which one my base stations are using.

What BT is Pimax using? Is it located in the HMD?

Watchmon? It’s Valve at least identified in steam devices.
