Just uploaded v0.26 with added Revive category, import and launching + a few other things.
Would really appreciate if you could test to launch some Revive games and report back
Only tested maybe 6-7 Oculus games so far, and all works fine to launch through PE as far as I can tell.
I have separated Revive from the Oculus tab (native PiTool launcher) because of a few reasons:
Revive and Oculus categories have totally different import function and its own game profiles.
I have not yet fixed my own import for Oculus-category games yet (still using PiTool imported files)
Revive category imports with correct title names, while Oculus category doesnât.
Revive category gives games each own SteamVR profile which Oculus category doesnât as these doesnât run through SteamVR anyway.
not everyone uses Revive (or have it installed) so its could be confusing having 2 options of launching Oculus games in the same category, and only one of the options allowing SteamVR optimization profiles.
If you only want to use (and see) Revive category or only the Oculus category, simply hide any of them (setting available in Customize UI menu).
Revive functionality working fine! I9900k and 2080ti,5k+.Iâve played
Asgaard wrath , robo recall and Vader immortal!
Just a question;: in your opinion which is the best solution between oculus service and revive?
Well both have its strength and weaknesses. I still prefer Revive (despite many times lower performance) for its better support for new games. Input mappings are never messed up using Revive, which they can be using the OVRLauncher. Also, as many pointed out, Pimax SDK which somehow emulates the OVRLauncher has no boundaries/guardian so it makes it more dangerous
I thought Revive still needed the Oculus Services to be running? So running an Oculus game thru Revive means that youâre running Revive, Oculus and Revive? For this reason, I havenât had Revive installed in ages.
T hanks for the clarificationâŚ
Yes, and so does the OVRLauncher. Without Oculus service running in thebackground, games will not start. Ive never cared about how and why its required, but it is, with an exception of a few games.
Maybe its just a anti piracy check. And probably its the reason why Revive and PiTool havenât got any problems with Oculus regarding legal terms or issues. These hacks are not doing anything âillegalâ and games are untouched, still connected with Oculus Home and its services. Its just an alternative way of launching them on other headsets.
Hmm thats weird as I tested Asgards yesterday and it worked. Did you update Oculus drivers and the game? Thanks for letting me know. Iâll see what could be wrong here.
If Revive solves the controller problem with Brass Tactics, then I might test it. Otherwise, while I think itâs really great this is getting added to PE, I canât think of much reason for me to use Revive itselfâŚ
Did try Vader in Revive worked perfect, then I tested Asgards wrath and it did not start, then I remembered I moved the game to make some space on my ssd so I started up Revive and it updated then it worked great in Experience.
Ps dont have Asgards wrath on a normal hdd, damn it takes long to load.
You should invest in these Samsung QVO SSDs, these are golden! I have two 2Tb of these for simulators and games.
Way cheaper than mormal SSD, but almost same performance and for gaming you will hardly notice the difference in loading times with QVD. Mechanical HDDs will soon be long gone
Just checked and se the 4TB is expensive but not extremle expensive, so maybe go for that one when I upgrade, ofc move over my 1TB 970 M2 SSD to, but then I should be able to not have to use my hdd in general even do feel abit hard to use a SSD to borrow shows
Yep, good idea! Removing all mechanical drives from my PC was the best decision ever. Its more quiet now, and also boots faster without initializing the slow HDDs (I had a bunch of 4-6Tb drives, but moved them out and only using them externally when needed).
SSDs as operating system disks are so common now, itâs fair to regard them as system requirements - no need to test software for mechanical hard disk compatibility now.
However, the Samsung QVO 2TB SSDs are only ~$100 (~30%) cheaper than M.2 970 EVO Plus SSDs. These are several times faster and better.
The big deal with SSD price is that the âwork from homeâ surge in demand has dropped off, so prices are back down to what they were around the beginning of this year.
M.2/U.2/PCI-E has more of a future than SATA, can be converted to nice 2.5inch disks with U.2 kits. Bonus: if the contacts on a U.2 2.5inch enclosure wear out, then your data is safely accessible on the SSD inside.
In photos from the NYC event, you can see a silver U.2 SSD case in my machine.
Found some bugs in latest versions, 1 when your in a game and end it and then come back to experience you and go in to next game you cant edit settings, you have to select game again then you can edit settings (tested 2 times) 2 its much much slower now to load experience and also before steam take over, the 3dof pimax image I see alot longer, this games were on SSD. 3 thing am not 100% sure about but wounder if it miss start comands you have added in steam, I have -console -vconsole -condebug +sc_no_cull 1 +vr_multiview_instancing 0 +vr_enable_volume_fog 0 so I dont need PP but felt like I had some problems in HL-A.
By clicking on âSettingsâ, you always get the active profile pre-loaded.
Thats why I made the shortcut buttons on game-page and settings-page (as well as profile edit page), so if you enter a game page, click on the icon next to its profile and you end up on the Settings page with the correct profile loaded. If you now click on the green icon (there are 2 on Settings page, one at top and one at bottom), you end up back in the game-page of the same game you came from. I hope it makes sense Just use the shortcut buttons.
The reason I made the Settings page to always load the currently active profile (when wntering Settings by not using shortcut buttons from game page), is that most people simply want to fast-change settings of the current profile inside Settings menu (just like they do with Quick-settings), and if the profile suddenly wasnt the sctive profile when they enter Settings, it would get very confusing for beginners.
In versions 0.27 and 28 I think, all SteamVR/viveport/revive games were re-imported upon every start. That made things slower. From version 0.29 its not reimporting existing games anymore, but still checks the last_played values in SteamVR games and updates if necessary. This MIGHT slow it down a little, but I will see if I can change that and run that feature as a co-routine instead so its not halting the loading process.
If the command line arguments are set in Steam for HL Alyx, these should be applied upon startup with PE, just like normally. All PE does with SteamVR games is to launch them with the steam://launch/ID/VR command.
Either way, Im working on a command line argument feature, so you can set these arguments from PE directly, and do much more than just use SteamVR commands. For instance load a batch file upon startup of the game and execute various scripts if you want.
