Whoever comes out with a Lighthouse controller with thumb sticks will sell many copies just of the controllers alone, including to people who aren’t ready to buy a new headset.
I believe the same, but many people here are against me and say they shouldn’t be wasting their time making controllers and should only focus on the HMD.
Well i support you on this as do many others. Some I don’t think understand a controller is childs play compared to designing a headset of which is both a controller & special display all in one.
Especially since base controller designs already exist; just a matter of tweaking shape & layout for ease of use & ergonomics.
Exactly @Heliosurge
Well said
As long they outsource these things I can live with this.
We will see quite some dissapointed faces though. I think that the Pimax 8K headset will be great and that they can pull it off.
The hand motion module is a leap motion module. I own one. It’s usuability is limited. Don’t expect too much - a gimmick.
Eye tracking: FOVE invested years of R&D - they are nowhere. I think we will get a module that can track our eyes with no practical solutions for gaming for a long time.
Scent module: I don’t even wanna start about this one.
Wireless: On this one I am optimistic because I think they will simply ask TPCast to built the module for them. They allready work on increasing the bandwith.
Don’t get me wrong: I am positive about the Pimax headset. Just don’t get too excited about the add on modules.
Yeah I’m with you. Wireless should be top priority, everything else will most likely have very limited usability.
Search scent modul there is a thread it does have real usability. On Gaming though? Not really.
Wireless is outsourced so its priority will be dependent on Partner(s) as to release.
Eye Tracking as you say atm is limited. However it might be good in say a fps so one could see where an opponet is looking. (eye tracking to map eye movements on ig avatar)
Hand modul? You are likely right at this time. However checkout Drvr4vr as Greg has added some kind of roomscale functionality.

Aroma therapy is a good example. And that face mask doesn’t look appealing. Lol
Ppl have been using incense/pop pouri/glade plugins etc.
Like i said i wouldn’t consider most games a candidate. Lol
It could be used for the more “experience” kind of games, it could also add another dimension to puzzles.
But yeah most games wouldn’t actually get much more from it, some would even be worse of with it
DOOM with smell, lovely… but hey it could take tea-bagging to a whole new level
If i step into horse crap in an RPG I don’t need the smell of shit in my face. No thank you. Immersion is good but there are limits.
Again that scenario amongst many games a nogo. But for experiences & relaxing games bound to be good.
Probably more commercial applications then home gaming.
Dont forget this post! Hmd first, quality and stability
Totally agree. I hope scent module for example is back burner until the main HMD is finished, lol. Also, it might make sense for pimax to simply adopt use of knuckle controllers vs engineering their own. Why not focus on their core technology of making the best, highest resolution, flagship class HMD on the market, and leave the peripherals to others? Maybe Pimax truly have the capability and capacity to do both at once, if so great, but regardless - if game developers have to support yet another peripheral, and everybody and their brother starts making controllers, I think they’re likely to say ‘screw it’ and just support the ones with largest market share (i.e. oculus and vive controllers).
That said, features directly related to the HMD like inside-out tracking, maybe even eye tracking assuming foveated rendering can be done well, are probably worth doing if they can do it right.
