Playing The Walking Dead: Saints And Sinners VR In The Pimax 8KX

Today I am finally back after being away for a bit with a new video and this time it is The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners Played in the Pimax 8KX. I know I missed the launch on this game but I’m glad I waited because it wasn’t until update #3 that the developers got rid of a bug that would keep the Vignette effect on even when toggled off in the settings for Wider FOV headsets.

After the update this effect was now able to be fully toggled off and the game was finally playable in the Pimax ultra wide FOV headsets and man lemme tell ya… I couldn’t think of playing it any other way now! Having the wider FOV and 4K resolution per eye of the Pimax 8KX coupled with the rich atmospheric level design and great graphics of the Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners makes this game stand out. So far everywhere I have explored there is lots to interact with and the atmosphere of the game has had me creeped out more than a few times. I’m really enjoying all of the detail that the developers have put into each scene.

The combat elements of the game are also a bit different and very refreshing from other Zombie survival games we have seen in VR. In Walking Dead SAS the players have the ability to grab and manipulate the dead to either push them away or pull them in and hold them in position to strike hard and fast on the zombies skulls which scores a kill. The physics added of having to pry the weapon back out for the next strike is also a very nice touch and adds realism to the games combat. The weapons are also breakable and trend to do so just when you need them most adding to the sense of panic and dread when you are surrounded by walkers!

Overall I can’t say enough good things so far about both the game and the headset. I have really loved going back and playing games I enjoy using my prototype 8KX headset and cannot wait to eventually see the final design. I have said it before, but IMHO this is the future of current VR headsets right here… Nothing else I have seen with the exception of the HP Reverb has come even close to meeting my expectations of what I would consider to be the visual standard of VR 2.0 in 2020! I know for those who have already ordered that the wait is agonizing right now but believe me if the final product is even better than this prototype that I am using then it is gonna be well worth it! I really hope that things get back to normal in China soon and that everyone living there and especially those members of the Pimax team that I was fortunate enough to get to know in person while at CES all stay healthy and safe!

I hope to have more videos out using the Pimax 8Kx soon so if you are interested in news and opinions on this upcoming headset please don’t forget to hit subscribe and click on the bell so you get notified the next time I post a video here on my channel. Thanks so much for watching and I will see ya in the next one!!! []-)

I’m so jealous. Did Pimax send you an 8K X for review? If you’ve done a review, I’m sure Sebastian at MRTV should be allowed to do one too. @PimaxQuorra Pimax must release Sebastian from his NDA.

He helped Pimax at CES as mirage365 did and they got to take one home each. Lucky devils!

No… I brought it home from CES… Pimax brought me out there this year to work with them in the booth and after the show was over they allowed me to take one of the production samples home to make gameplay vids with and to help them test things. These videos are in no way meant as a review of the headset and I am not using the final hardware here… the launch unit what I would want to base any firm reviews on not a pre production prototype. I hope to receive a final unit to do a proper review when they start shipping them out so stay tuned! []-)

I think the simple fix for the issue MRTV and others had about talking about the HMD’s is to simply quit using the word “REVIEW”. I mean just simply use the word “PREVIEW” instead. Say ‘not final’ on top of it and no issue should be had.

Hi I enjoyed the video thank you. Sorry to hear of your troubles. Im looking forward to more videos when you can. The 8k x sounds very impressive. What do you think of the sound quality of your pre production model?

Glad you liked it… As for the sound quality, it’s OK… Keep in mind that the 8KX I am using is not the final unit and I was already told that the audio would be one of the things that is changing between what I have and what will be released. I will say though that it is nice to have it and that the sound quality is slightly better than the Rift S and Quest but obviously no where even close to the Index! It is for sure loud enough but lacks solid bass and sometimes seems to cut out on me but again… I am using a prototype headset so this will not be the case in the final production units! []-)

Thank you for the reply. Have you tried a Valve Index? If so how does the pimax compare for comfort and visual quality? I know the sound isn’t going to compare. What game are you going to try next? :grinning:
