PiTool 262, excellent performance

asus aura is e.g. a nice candidate for such problem.

Also check a other DP and USB Port.

No, 203

That’s not surprising if you had SM off and 120Hz, though. Then the software will push as many frames as it can as soon as they are ready, as it’s likely always late (i.e. frame time is above 1/120).
I have now gone over to using 120Hz with SM on, seems to be working well enough. When I tried it with the previous version it had some “wavering” issues, and “simulated astygmatism” (double image in one or both eyes). Turning GPU scheduling off fixed the double image issue for me.

Hallo dstar,
It is the katvr software. I haven’t used it for a while. Updated it to newer version and same problem. Turn it off all is smooth.

OH damn, thats a sad. I guess something changed again in all that Jungle of drivers and updates.

By “last version” I meant the one before 262 (261?). I’m happy enough now. If I can’t avoid reprojection, I might as well embrace it, and minimize the effects with 120Hz.

In Windows 10-2004, I had to turn OFF various software based enumerators (polling?) to stop momentarily CPU gaps and thus momentarily GPU freezes in Elite Dangerous. fpsVR conformed the gaps passing by. The CPU stopped at intervals of up to 1 sec every 28 sec up to 1m18s: I timed it.
I checked my Device Manager, opened up some part of the list (to see refreshes easier) and started thinking what made my machine stop for those brief moments: drivers, services, my hardware (1909 worked fine) or perhaps my network? Research online shows that Windows 10 2004 has a few annoyances under the hood (background network searches, USB polling, etc), so I tried bit-by-bit disabling pretty much any hardware and the issue remained even without any external (USB) devices attached.
Event viewer is a swamp to dig through so I decided to disable all the software-driven devices: the enumerators near the bottom of the list. Don’t have a screenshot but will post soon.

That worked for me: it stopped the cpu 1 sec gaps (and gpu pauses) during which my Pimax froze momentarily.

I can recommend Process Lasso by Bitsum for managing all processes and cpu affinity. All background apps ( like PT , steamvr etc.) windows network task bind to 1 or 2 cores and make sure that game is bind only for rest free cores… That gives me constant fps without drops and for instance DCS and ACC run munch faster. Note you are only doing this one time and save than prosess lasso when system is restarted will remember your settings.

It’s for free but you can also buy PRO ver.

Been very busy but got to try this pitool last night. Incredibly impressed guys!

Stutter is not apparent - I will say in a few heavy loading scenes I stuttered, but the way you are ‘supposed to’ (typical CPU type lag in a flat game feels the same). The performance is simply amazing. Previously, my 2070 super struggled to reach 120hz constantly in the best looking titles.

One of the best examples for me actually is In Death. The game was playable, but not smooth for me at 100% resolution on normal fov 120hz. Now I’m maxing the game out and it is butter! I can’t wait to try out automobilista and PC2 tonight as those were definitely borderlining some lag on high settings in old PTs. Great work pimax team.

Really look forward to hearing your results on PC2 and AMS 2. They are my most played titles. Looking forward to my 8KX, been worried about being able to play madness engine games in a Pimax on my 1080ti (do plan to upgrade to the 3000 series, but still want to enjoy the meantime!). Been sticking with my original vive, waiting for the next big step that included wider FOV.
Excited to hear if you got a notable performance boost in v262. Are you running the steamVR version + PP, or using the oculus versions?

I use the steamVR versions, I have not gone through the process to get PP disabled. When i read through those topics, at the time the performance gain wasn’t THAT great, so I just avoided it.

Your 1080ti should be very similar to my performance, and I’ll say even with older pitools those games are very, very enjoyable. I max the settings out - lightly raining maps in particular just look unbelievable. I know it’s not a rallycross game, but PC2 rally maps with dynamic weather blew me away when i got my 5k+.

Further, I also have a founders 1080 PC, and PC2 and AM2 are fully playable, though I do cut the resolution down ~15%. In either game, adding cars to the track makes to me the biggest difference. I could CRANK settings on any map if I raced alone, but introduce 16 vehicles and it’s rough.

I’ll follow up tonight!

im just extatic about being able to turn down the backlight again.this is the most basic and important setting for any LED-screen. backlight is ment to balance out exessive ambient light, no such thing in a sealed headset or realy dark gaming-room.

I agree. However, consider this: Previously, there were only 3 Backlight settings. I had set the Backlight to Dim, to get deeper blacks in space in Elite Dangerous.

When the Backlight setting was restored, I tested all 5 new settings. I was surprised to discover that my immersion was better with a brighter backlight! Lights look more real and more stars are visible in space.

I’m now using Backlight == 3 (one notch down from max brightness), Contrast == +1, and Brightness == -1. It looks great!

havent tried ED in a long time, but i usualy have backlight at minimum and contrast and/or brightness increased.
in 262 for some reason i dont need to increase either, just turning down the backlight made the picture crisp and balanced.(it was on the greyish side before, so it kinda makes sense)
guess this is a good example on why having these settings is so vitaly important!

True. It probably depends on the games you play and you do have a different headset model than I do. You might want to at least try increasing the Backlight and decreasing the Brightness. I found that it made bright lights look more realistic. I agree: Increasing Contrast is a good practice, since it helps offset the dullness of LCD panels.

WOW, huge performance increase even from 249 ,where i was, all subsequent versions were a no go for me, this release blows every older version by a big step.
Early comments btw, still have to test more games but it looks you hit the center this time.

I am still on 180 Beta with my pimax xr :sweat_smile::man_shrugging:
Should I Update ^^ ? Or will it brick my hmd xD ?

I would update, if I were you. The risk of truly bricking your headset is very slight. If it becomes unresponsive, you can still update the firmware manually, to restore functionality.

I just updated today finally, looking forward to testing later.
