I am seeing same as below youtube clip with a horizontal sparkle grid which appears in lower half of panels. Running [PiTool .245 FW255] at 120hz normal view. Serial number starts: 203…

Pimax Sparkle Grid

Thoughts on how to resolve?

Though its unlikely if it’s tied to pitool, I had this issue (and so did many others) and resolved it by using a powered USB hub. After ~20-45 minutes of play my headset would go black but sound would continue. Occasionally one of my vive wands would stop being detected too.

Got a 4A powered hub with plenty of ports on amazon and I’ve never had a drop out since. A pain to have to buy more sheit, but I found it worth it for other things anyway

I would submit a support ticket this maybe a cable issue but not sure.

Added pimaxquorra to your post.

Additionally, this issue only occurs in the right panel. The left panel looks fine.

Hello WindWpn,

Have you ever try on 90Hz on your headset? Does it occur the same scenario when you run the headset with lower Hz?

Sincerely,
Quorra.Pimax

Yes, I tried on all Hz and same issue. One other recent finding… it only occurs when something is in view… aka, if the screen is black, the sparkling is gone. Basically, if there is something in view, the sparkles return, but if panel is black, no sparkles.

I am still on version 197, but wanted to report minor UI bug with 5K XR. Black level setting in UI always defaults to Balanced, even if it is set to something else.

HELP PLEASE
I tried installing pitool 249 fw 255 first time it locked my headset in update mode lights flashing red blue green was stuck for more than 2 hrs.
I finally uninstalled pitool and all the files and reinstalled 197 with fw244 than i updated again this time everything worked but i shut down pitool when i reopened it it did a fw update started took about 4-5min and at the very end it of the update the green bar is full but it stays there and nothing works again my headset stays in fw update mode with lights flashing red green blue
My headset is model 203

Look into DFU flashing manually, sweviver has a video on this. Your headset will be fine and I recommend just manually uploading the newest pitool firmware manually. When you install the latest pitool, there is a firmware included with an installer called DfuSeCommand.exe. Again, watch swevivers pimax for dummies guide. The hardest part of the procedure is putting the pimax into DFU mode, but you’re already there hence the flashing lights. Let me know if you need any more help.

I run an older version of pitool (.144) but I still use the latest firmware to avoid issues

I did the sweviver method but i got an error and it did’nt work where can i find DfuSeCommand.exe. and if i double click on it will it work? I have the latest pitool installed 249

I’m at work and youtube is blocked so I can’t link the exact video timestamp. you need to run that exe and there is a specific command you have to type in (its like CMD) to get it to reference and install p2.dfu to the headset, so again refer to swevivers pimax for dummies video.

C:\Program Files\Pimax\Runtime\dfudriver is the location by default.

If all else fails, give this a shot: "Go to Management console → Device Manager Uninstall the driver for the device “DFU in FS mode”. When asked if you want to remove the driver files say yes. Run the stm_dfu_3040_64.exe from C:\Program Files\Pimax\Runtime\dfudriver in an attempt to reinstall it again from the scratch. If it does not help, download the newer version from ST site https://www.st.com/en/development-tools/stsw-stm32080.html and repeat the “clean & install” procedure with the new version. "

Thanks i’ll try that tonight

Rog123, you need to use Sweviver’s video. Your post tells you didn’t watch it (or you wouldn’t have asked for directions and double-clicking).

Don’t give the other method a shot, simply use Sweviver’s, it always works.

Here you go, with timestamp:

Make certain you follow it accurately. Don’t do any step too early, and also don’t skip anything. Be precise, have fun! :+1:

Same happened to me. For me, the following worked:

  • Make sure HMD is in standby mode
  • Re-install 249
  • Switch HMD on (Firmware upgrade starts and stays open stuck at 100%)
  • Close Firmware update window
  • Hold power button to put HMD in standby mode
  • Switch HMD back on (Firmware upgrade starts and displays “Success”)

You may have to reboot if you see that the firmware update doesn’t start when switching HMD on. Make sure to put HMD in standby mode before rebooting.

tried everything sweviver way my headset is stuck in dfu in the command prompt it tells me device not found don’t know what to do very discourage!!

Did you sort this?

It looks like an unstable OC on the GPU. If you have an OC on your GPU reset it to defaults and reboot your PC to see if that fixes it.

i have no OC on the GPU. Its a stock 1080ti FE. Given the sparkle grid disappears when I view a black space only, it seems to tie to perhaps power or interference channeling to the right panel? Note, the left panel does not suffer from this issue.

QQ, has Pimax been able to replicate this finding and narrow to what may be cause?
