Then also it doesnt work on the latest firmware, also if you do upscaling on the 8kx i get on one eye a black screen
You can remove the right and left panels already. Click the thin arrow on the outside edges of the panels and itāll disappear.
Fantastic work @SweViver and team!
Quick two questions for the sim racers amongst us:
-
I race in Assetto Corsa via CM launcher. My usual workflow on the Index would be Start SteamVR -> start VirtualDesktop -> start CM -> race. How would I do this via PE to load Pimax optimized settings for AC? Is there a āsee desktopā option?
-
Does PiTool support Motion Compensation in its current build and if so, is this a setting adjustable via PE?
Thanks!
I was about to ask the exact same question about the CM
looking forward the answers, since I havenāt installed PE yet.
Iād add a 3rd questions : will PE have a cost in term of performance/FPS while playing?
No cost as the environment closes when you start up a game
Yes its probably the maxRecommendedResolution in the steamvr.vrsettings that we have set as default to 8192, and also the gpuSpeed values which makes the SteamVR overlays/dashboard to look much better/sharper. This could potentially impact performance, but only on 8KX or if you push too high supersampling. Maybe try to change irt back to 4096 and see if it helps?
This is something I already requested from the PiTool team as it needs to be handled by PiTool itself (simply restoring to a default profile and settings right before PE is started again). Im still waiting for that feature.
When Mouse mode is enabled, it locks the mouse cursor to the window (on purpose) so you never leave the cursor outside the window and accidentially click on icons on the desktop or other applications. If Mouse mode is disabled, it wont lock the mouse. You can ALT-TAB to get out of the lock mode, but one you activate (focus) on the PE window, it locks it again.
Not upon launch of PE; but upon launch of games, as every installed game gets a SteamVR profile with value 8192 added on default, and unless you uncheck the option to automatically apply SteamVR optimization upon game startup, the settings WILL be applied. You can change it at any time in the Advanced ā Manual SteamVR Optimization menu.
Haha cool, I didnt even know PE was working on Pimax 4K
(dont have any) thanks man!
Yes, PE always auto starts if that checkbox is checked. If not, there must be something wrong, or there might be an antivirus software or something that prevents a hidden window to be launched (PiTool forces PE to start in hidden mode without taskbar-icon)
Yes, but its the same version as from Private Beta category, so cantually wont benefit anything from installing this first 0.50 version.
So does this override the SteamVR menu when you press the home button, or is this more of a SteamVR home environment type menu?
Hereās the thing, if you boot your WIndows and start PE with PiTool just once, you wont be able to run PE āoutside of PiToolā as you just mentioned. This is because PiTool uses a strange way of launching the app through the piservice, so it basically ālocksā the unity app to the service. If you then try to start PE manually with the exe, the app will close down after 1 second. This is also why I had to add a piservice restart into the āRestart Appā button. It doesnt only restart P - it also restarts PiService. Witho
This COULD be an issue, as the Player settings are affected by Unity installs.
Heh thanks man
Kevin is working hard every day as well on his tasks, believe me, without him we wouldnt see much of all the progress that has been made lately!
Aww I just sold my Pimax 4K (for 100 euros to my surprise) but I should have checked this out first.
But is PiTool any fun with the Pimax 4K? Last time I tried it the black smearing was insane
Guys, as this thread is becoming extremely difficult to follow (and especially respond to each bug/issue/request), could we please move all bug reports/issues and suggestions to the Beta Category here:
https://community.openmr.ai/c/PEXPBeta/62/l/latest
Just create a new topic if you have an issue, bug or whatever, in the āPE Bug Reportingā category, and discuss all else in the āPE Discussionā. It would make things so much easier to have clean posts on-topic. Its much easier for everyone to follow up and make sure things are not missed out or overlooked.
So please create new topics for new bugs/issues, and stay on the topic. Otherwise theres no way I can keep track on all reports. Im not sitting in here all day, you know⦠![]()
Thanks all!
No this simply disables the SteamVR from starting upon pressing the system-buttons or powering on controllers.
For those of you having issues where userSettingsPVR.json is not created (and you only see an empty background), could you please check so the PVRHome folder in *C:\Users\user\AppData\LocalLow\Pimax\PVRHome* is now read-only?
The only way I can replicate this problem is if I make the entire directory read-only.
So please untick the read-only, and try starting PE again.
We are trying to determinate how and why this happens on some PCs.
Hi @SweViver,
Thank you so much for all the effort you and Armin et al are putting into the creation of PE !
Just tried to find the userSettingsPVR.json file again, making sure that the Read-only in the PVRHome folder was unchecked. Did a new installation of Pitool 1.0.2.084.
But still no luck. No userSettingsPVR.json file to be found in the PVRHome folder.
However when looking at the output.log and Player.log, I found a few things which I do not understand, but may be significant for you. Maybe this could provide a clue as to why I do not et a userSettingsPVR.json file.

The Player.log is too large for a screenshot. Is there any way to attach it here in the forum?
I myself was surprised when it launched in Pimax 4K. But it was amazing

I decided not to sell my 4K in order to compare with the 8KX.
Yes, it still has drawbacks, including ghosting and smudging.
But I sold my Odyssey + (in anticipation of 8KX), so the P4K is now my only HMD ![]()
I enjoy watching movies on it and some games with a gamepad will work fine.
The main thing here is not to rotate your head very quickly in order to avoid smears ![]()
In general, this is not an HMD for a full-fledged game, after all, but it can definitely brighten up my agonizing expectation of sending 8KX.
right after keeping their promises.
@SweViver does PE work with xbox controller?
After some more time with this pimax vr experience, its realy a great addition to the headset⦠Great work!
I see. We are still working on this, havent found the cause though.
Could you please post the entire log here:
Just paste everything and click āCreate New Pasteā and send me the link to the page.
Thanks
Haha. But honestly, having a proper UI in vr, having saveable and storable and downloadable settings profiles for games, especially when there can be so much fiddling with parallel projections and all kinds of other stuff⦠it just makes it a lot more consumer friendly. It badly needed that. Once this is actually up and running properly i would actually recommend the headsets to people.
Hey @SweViver, I know you are a keen AC racer and I assume you use the SOL mod together with CM launcher.
Would you be able to please answer my question regarding CM and if possible Motion Compensation?
Much appreciated!
@twack3r Motion compensation option is not connected between PiTool and PE. Bill never added that value. I could ask him to, but to be honest I have no idea how that even works as I have no motion rig connected on my side.
