Your absolutely right. Not rubbishing the product, I’m just criticizing the way its being managed. I mean honestly they tease pre orders for how long and then they screw it up like this. Robin must be one easy boss to work for
Why do people like you always have to behave like such assholes when confronted with a different opinion? If you like the product, then what’s the problem? Go enjoy it.
This botched launch and the higher than expected price (was expecting 500-550 euros for the 5K+) has really put me off so I’m not buying a Pimax. However I hope they get their stuff together and succeed because the VR market needs more competition, it also needs lower prices to lead to more widespread adoption.
I also have a feeling that we might have more stuff coming out from the big brands, like Samsung, so pre-ordering a Pimax might lead to regrets if some new stuff comes out while we wait for delivery.
Exactly this. While I’m not going to buy one myself, I’m happy that the Pimax 5k seems to be quite a solid product. This forces the competition to move on faster than what they might have done otherwise. Then again, as long Pimax is not selling anything in a normal way (without preorder), the competition doesn’t have to worry too much. And it seems that that point could easily be half a year away. But they do know it’s coming, so that’s a good thing for VR in general.
you have always a negative attitude in all your posts and dont insult me!
Even if that were true (which it is not), then are you really so insecure that that offends you in any way?
They must have lost hundred thousands in sales and even more trust. I am not really shocked by this utter incompetence. I have lived through three months of M1 testing, getting completely untested software builds and witnessing them not following any kind of quality assurance.
Robin should get a whip and spank’em asses.
I honestly think Robin himself is the main culprit here. He should have planned to have a fully functional working website weeks ago. I think most of the problems arise due to him not managing correctly. I mean even the best IT guy can’t put up a good functional website in 24 hours, this needs to be carefully planned for. Besides, website design is something completely different than designing a HMD, so it’s not like he would have needed to pull resources from developing the HMD. There’s no excuse. Just mismanagement.
That should be a special backer bonus in 360 deg video
Then don’t be insulting yourself. Check the banner topic as @kopa’s script & other advice is there on muting.
In 2002, when I was a web development manager, a website like this would take about 4 weeks of design/construction for a first draft. Then 2 to 3 weeks of client review/slack time. Then 2 more weeks of fixes. After that you do a live test run, simulating thousands of hits to it with the goal to break it and find weaknesses. You work closely with the host / data center to manage sudden bursts of activity and have agreements in place. If it will be really popular then you need decent load-balancing, these days that would be Amazon or some other established host which again adds more specialist complexity. Then after all that is done, you ask an external security firm to evaluate / hack it. Then you go from dev build to a live build and watch it like a hawk. Back then we would have charged around £8,000 for build and host with a yearly management fee on top. Probably cheaper do to these days but it is not something you leave to an internal I.T guy! he simply can not be an expert in all the areas required.
So is the problem a lack of resources ? If that’s the problem why hasn’t Pimax expanded its team over the last year in preparation of rolling out there product? I have seen many posts warning them that there website had problems before the preorder but they still did nothing. Wasn’t the 15 million dollar funding supposed to be used to address these issues?
Should & maybe should have if not. From what I have observed they stretch themselves too thin trying to learn new things as they go.
What happen to the paypal option?, i can only pay through paypal, a couple of hours ago i try but got the errors, now the page is fine but there is no paypal option.
Yes, it works slow sometime. Maybe, because of some extra pressure on the server at peak hours. However, you could go for a different hosting provider as likes of DigitalOcean and Cloudflare of course. I have been using the managed digitalOcean server which is powered by Cloudways for my ecommerce store and it has been working fine for me.
